Great series Tom!! I'm just finishing up my 1984 Yamaha Virago 1000 and looking at a 1987 FZR1000. I was on the fence about the FZR but after watching your videos, I think that's my next restoration. Thanks for all the great content!!
@@tomsworkshopprojects good video & narration.. but really.. why the sound track overlay.. just bought an 02 reg'd in showroom cond 18k km.. just needs a carb clean.. these run so smooth compared to the gsxr's I have.. 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿👍nz
Nice one Tom - now it`s a keeper, I've had mine for 34 years and will be on the road in the next three months after too long off it. Thanks for the story & inspiration. Then there`s 4 others to do!!!
Test rode a version of this bike back in the 90's. My initial impression was. I felt like I had owned this bike for ten year's already. It was that good in my opinion. Thanks for sharing yours.
I flippin love the Yamahas from this era. I've got a foxeye 600 from the same year, I've had it forever. I've recently got it back on the road after too many years in the garage. Just so good to ride without feeling like kids bike on speed like the more modern 600s. I'm currently entertaining myself by replacing a lot of crusty fasteners with nice shiny ones, easy wins!
Fan-f%&king-tastic!! I'm happy you have her finished but sad that this part of the journey is over. I love watching the restoration videos, especially ones like these, no fancy equipment or facilities, just a bloke in his shed figuring his way around problems, love it! Well done, can't wait for the Ninja project (see if you find it easier than the one I did). Please do post vids of the Yamaha out on the road in all her glory 😎
Haha, cheers mate. Yeah that's my level for sure. I'm very grateful to be starting the Ninja project in a much nicer work space than where the FZR one started 😆
Hi Tom I just stumbled upon your video series on your FZR restore. Loved it. I have an 87 FZR 1000 I rode into the shed and parked it 10 years ago. I am going to need to do some major work to get it back on the road but at least mine is not in as bad condition as yours started out. Thanks for the inspiration. .
Thanks Mark, yeah it’s amazing how life gets in the way and the years fly by. Very glad now that it’s back in good shape 👌🏼 hope you get started soon 🤞
Had the same exact bike back in the day!!! Feels like a long time ago saying I sold it 15 years ago. Think I still have a bunch of extra parts for it in storage… Man I loved that bike!!! Hope it treats you well!!!
I just bought this same bike and it needs a couple things done. Awesome videos I’m sure I’ll be scrubbing through when I inevitably forget where something goes. Cheers!
Cheers! It took a long time as life doesn’t give me a huge amount of time for it, but very happy looking back at the progress. I hope you get to do the same to yours 👍🏻
I had an 89 Exup & loved it wish I never sold it but I do like this version to, I'm guessing underneath all the body panels is the same running gear mine had although I really do wish they had a 6 speed box, nice bike though mate jealous lol
Yeah I think little of that stuff changed, suspension and styling seemed to be the main changes, then those 6 pot callipers in the last few years. Cheers! Glad to have it back on the road, had a couple of nice rides so far this year.
Congratulations for your hard work, and thanks for sharing. I've got a 90 model in very decent conditions with 70.000 Km, but I would like to replace bearings and update wheels, brakes and suspension using modern and lighter components. Do you know if new brakes from an R1 are compatible?
Thanks, appreciate that! Here’s a good guide for all things brake upgrades, though it may be different if you change the wheels etc. www.exup1000.co.uk/tech_info_area/spots.htm
Hey Tom!! Just got my '87 Genesis stripped and the shock/spring is toast. It's a completely sealed OEM unit and not restorable/repairable. Where did you source your shocks from? It looks like I'll have to replace mine too.
@@tomsworkshopprojects Thanks...I'll have a look. Strange that we Canadians are supposed to have a "free trade" agreement with the US. For the most part I've been able to get stuff shipped from Europe and China cheaper than having it shipped 200 miles across the border. Weird. Thanks for the insight. I'll have a look at both. Cheers.
After eight years restoration i finished my FZR 1000 build 90. Actually it's a new bike now. Beside the countless hours of work i spend about 7K € on the bike. Wouldn't do it again.
Haha yeah there’s not a huge amount of ways to make the maths add up nicely. I think it really needs to be a sentimental project or particularly educational experience to make it worthwhile 👍🏻
I see them pop up on eBay every now and then, and I think there’s sometimes people selling them on the Yamaha FZR1000 Facebook group. Hope you find one!

Wow that's great to hear! All the best with it! I've found the FZR owner community to be a great one to be part of!

Epic!!! Great you saved the old girl!!
Really really really enjoyed this project!!! More films please!!❤
Cheers Patrick, new year, new project and all that 😂

Haha i know what you mean, there’s something very satisfying about working through the smaller details like bolts 👌🏼
Damn great job!!! I wish I could get my 95 FZR to you... Enjoy it, it's a beautiful bike to ride...
Fantastic watched all 14 nice work

Fantastic work Tom, loved watching you blast it out of that roundabout once the pilot jets were clear.
Haha, thanks Tom. Yeah that was a feeling I'd been looking forward to for some time. Big grin on my face then for sure!
Great bike, and an awesome series. Time well spent. Subscribed of course. Thanks. 👍
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed 👍🏻

Thanks William! I’ve loved it the first time around, and really looking forward to the years to come 👍🏻
Du beau travail....Merci pour le partage et le montage
Merci! Je suis heureux que vous l'ayez apprécié
Great video, that bike is looking and sounding incredible and you've done really well to fit so much into a pretty short video. Love it
Really enjoyed the series Tom and I'm watching the current rebuild of the ZX7R.
I just bought this same bike and it needs a couple things done. Awesome videos I’m sure I’ll be scrubbing through when I inevitably forget where something goes. Cheers!
Cheers! Nice, hope it goes well 👍🏻
Nice to finally see the whole thing come together. It's been a great journey, bravo!
Cheers Stuart! It's been an adventure for sure, can't wait to get some new miles on it :D
Really enjoyed this series, already looking forward to the Kawasaki!
Thanks for taking the time and putting the effort into making these videos!
Thanks mate, filming it all may have doubled the time it actually took but it’s been a great creative outlet to combine my hobby with my work.
Amazing to see her finished, she looks gorgeous. Hope to see some videos with her. Cheers
Thanks mate, I'm already thinking about a big trip in the summer 🤔
@@tomsworkshopprojects That would be awsome, I can't wait to finish mine now.
Молодец! Много работы сделал, по твоим видео восстанавливаю свой fzr.
Thankyou for making such excellent videos,I had lots of fun watching them. However this certainly was not a restoration.
Thanks, it’s been good fun sharing the journey 👍🏻
A good clean up is a highly used phrase here 😂
Haha, just vague enough to claim it’s true 😂
Very good😊👍
That was a nice project. I watched all 14 videos in a row :D I would love to do the same thing for my 91 fzr1000 streetfighter.
Cheers! It took a long time as life doesn’t give me a huge amount of time for it, but very happy looking back at the progress. I hope you get to do the same to yours 👍🏻
the front of the kawasaki is my fave among the ouls schools
Freaking love it. I should of taken the time to redo the fzr600 I had instead of giving up on it .
Top job, that was a great series.
Your ZX7 hopefully won’t give you as many problems!
Haha, thanks Alex, fingers crossed!
You must be a very patient guy to wait 918 days.

Completed except for the chain. Why haven't you sorted the mot?
Chain’s now replaced 👍🏻 had to save up 😂 the old one would have failed as it was way too worn. Might be able to get it MOT’d this weekend 🤞

Oh no, yeah my FZR one was junk too. I got mine from Brook Suspension in the UK, but I imagine YSS or Nitron have suppliers your side of the pond?

Hey Tom! I’m buying a 1994 FZR1000 and I need the rear seat cowl. Do you where could I find one?? Thx!
I see them pop up on eBay every now and then, and I think there’s sometimes people selling them on the Yamaha FZR1000 Facebook group. Hope you find one!
The mixture srewes settings please
I just set them to stock, I’d need to look up what that is but I’m on the coast so pretty much at sea level.
I'm beginning to think this channel is just one big stealth advertisement for muck off lmao
😂 I got that bottle for free with my CBT course in 2010, good idea though, I may need to send them an invoice 😆
Dump the black screen
I may do if I find a nice clear one, I didn’t know it wasn’t original until after I finished it 😂
Purtroppo moto inutile....pesantissimi e quasi inguidabile sul misto
👍🏻
