I am the offspring of parents with a 39 year age gap. My Mum is 43 and my Dad was 82 (unfortuntely he passed away January of this year). Both my parents had been married for 24 years and were supposed to be celebrating ther 25th anniversary this year. They married because they loved each other! They got 2 children out of it (im almost 21 and my brother is 23). My dad was so so healthy and needed absolutely no care at all-- the idea of the younger partner being a carer isn't always the case, and wasn't in my parents relationship. I am the offspring of parents with a 39 year age gap. My Mum is 43 and my Dad was 82 (unfortuntely he passed away January of this year). Both my parents had been married for 24 years and were supposed to be celebrating ther 25th anniversary this year. They married because they loved each other! They got 2 children out of it (im almost 21 and my brother is 23). My dad was so so healthy and needed absolutely no care at all-- the idea of the younger partner being a carer isn't always the case, and wasn't in my parents relationship. The thing is, these relationships work! They are like all relationships-- highs and lows. It comes with its own set of unique challenges just like every relationship. My issue with being in a relationship like this is not so much the age difference now (although it is ..odd), but more so how things will be when one partner is like 50 and the other is 80 years old. At that point you’re a caregiver and not a spouse. Weird.
