    Oh wow! Didn’t expect the shout out cheers! I been watching your channel for a little over a year now and started when I wanted to find out more info about the more recent bottlings Laphroaig 10CS’s and been watching content ever since. Looking forward from here onwards 🤟

    You hit the nail on the head when you said Macallan is not for the scotch nerds like many of us; it's become a whisky that is essentially a status symbol. Doesn't mean that it's not good stuff, but I think the question is can you get something comparable or better for a cheaper price? And I think the answer is unequivocally, yes. For us scotch aficionados, we can get several incredible independent bottlings of sherry matured whisky that are cask strength and ncf for the price of one Macallan 18.

      Yes, absolutely true. So many stellar whiskies available in this price range.

    Not had much experience with the Macallan because of the price - but I'd love to try a sample of or 2 (well 10) if I could get it. Another great vid mate. Cheers.

      Cheers Al ! Even as less as ten years ago you could get your hands on quality Macallans with age statements. Unfortunately they are wildly out of my budget.

      I have seen some Mac18 in a Pub i was drinking Guinness with my wife in a summer time. Aged Mac in a Pub when a live is rare so i was thinkig to ask what is the price for a dram. Probabbly can buy a bottle good whisky in this price do i didnt ask. 🤷‍♂️🥃🙋‍♂️

    Hi malt activist
    Hope you are doing well, I watched your video on Macallan 18year old, and I have a bottle of the 18year old single cask unopened, and it's a 2018 release, and a bottle of the Macallan rare cask batch 2, I have been waiting to drink them, but I spent a lot of money 💰 on them and really couldn't afford them when I bought them, but I wanted to try some of there best at some point, I will say I have the Macallan #edition 3,4,5,and 6 and I can say without question the edition #4 is a superb whiskey, I didn't like the edition #5, but it's still very good, have never have had the 3 or 6 yet, but I will eventually get around to drinking them all. I just recently saw the editions 1,through 6 selling for $10,000 on the shelves, I would never pay that much for all the 6 bottles, but I'm sure someone will, anyway thanks for the great review and your right about the Macallan whiskeys, there just way too expensive for what you get, cheers my friend and keep up the great reviews, have you tried any of the ones I have mentioned ???

    • @MaltActivist
      @MaltActivist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Frankie. Thank you for such a detailed comment. I've had Edition 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 and I agree - #4 is my favorite from the lot. If I were you I'd sell all those bottles and pick up some stunning IB's. That would be my strategy.

    Kinda odd, but I have never bothered with Macallan. When I got into whisky 10 years back I watched Ralfy and his opinions led me everywhere else. 200 bottles later and I don’t have a single MacA on the shelf - and not a tinge of regret. What gets me, is if what you say is true in regards to the awesome nature of the spirit - why isn’t every litre treated like gold? Why isn’t every bottling amazing? It’s just silliness their pricing and their pretentiousness, so no regrets here. Blessed be Springbank, Arran, and all the wonderful IBs - they cover my bases well enough. Great vid and cheers 🍻

    In my opinion the Macallan 10yo Cask Strength remains one of the greatest of all time. So terribly sad what Macallan has become. 😢

    for €300, you could get a couple of bottles which might give you the same or more enjoyment overall, as otherwise you might be overly careful with the expensive bottle.
    (one day we'll be able to drop that on a bottle without worrying about it!!)

    Fan of the Sherry cask but legit don’t like the double cask. Even so they smell exceptional and taste good. They are also thin w a short finish.

    • @MaltActivist
      @MaltActivist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the older sherry casks. The new 12 doesn't do it for me. Very sulfury on the nose and palate. This DC is quite nice and I'm happy to sip on it.

    It may taste like pumpkin pie but I'll never pay $379 for a 43% bottle.
    And in contrast I would feel like a real loser with a $69 bottle of the ever popular 40% 12year double cask. So I guess I'm out of the loop altogether.

    How do you compare to the 18 sherry oak?

    • @MaltActivist
      @MaltActivist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I prefer the sherry oak a touch more - its a little more rich with some crisp notes.

  • @Rohit_M

    Macallan....aaaa...naaaah! The entire range has become the whisky of extravagance maybe for the extravagant'ish crowd. As you said, like many things in life, get it if you can afford it. Way too many options available for a lot less in the 18-year-old category. I do have a couple of Mac Sherry and an old Select oak bottles.

    • @MaltActivist

    One thing i really likes about macallan is that they consistently produce whiskies that are a prime example of everything a single malt should be. I know some says it's an overpriced mediocrity,Even though a bad RR still an RR 😁😁
