We are the same age. You look young enough to be my daughter! I have been retired from employment by someone else for many years. I moved to the country in my 30s and lived on far less than city folk. Learned young that the work almost all of us do for most of our lives is water under the bridge within months of leaving the workplace. After we're gone, there is usually no trace of how we spent our lives. We are missed, but not for long.
I was about leave for work and glad I read your note first. Thank you for giving me a good start. You are right. All the work we do fades into memory. Why do we feel w3 need permission to get our life back.
I retired at 57, 8 years ago. My wife and I saved and invested early allowing me to exit the workforce when I did. We are not special and believe most people can do this with the appropriate level of planning and discipline. I only keep up with a few people who I worked with during my 40 years in the workforce. People often confuse workforce colleagues as friends, when in most cases they are not. The key message I would communicate to others is don't delay retirement if you have the financial wherewithal to do so. Too often I have seen many people delay retirement and then experience health issues which constrain the very things they wanted to do post-retirement. Moreover, the most significant benefit of retirement for me is that I no longer have to deal with people I do not want to. That has proved to be the ultimate blessing.
Brilliant video!! Really enjoyed everything about it :) If possible in the future, could you do a video revving up your car? So we can hear how it sounds! 😆
