Thanks GS. Can you help me out and throw some knowledge at us? 1. You've shown the F-16 is an amazing two-circle fighter. Which other jet is the best "pure" two-circle opponent? 2. Is there an equivalent jet for the one-circle (giving you the same feeling as the F-16 but one-circle)?
GS, Perhaps you get this one a lot…but is the F22 the best dogfighter period, end of story, if the pilot is the most skilled? Rephrased, which plane is the very best of all? I’m thinking F22.
man, the iq in this duel is on full display. It's such a great tactical tutorial! The instruction along with the technical skill makes these videos so advantageous to anyone picking up or expanding on their DCS time.
Nice! Btw, that's _Perseus_ squadron, not Pegasus. Fittingly enough, it's one of two squadrons in the HAF that fly the block 50. The rest fly either block 52/72 or block 30.
Greetings from Belgrade Greek brother! :) Was on Crete 2 years ago and saw F-16's flying wild. One took off right as we were getting off our flight... it was magnificent. Hoping to see some Raffale's next time I come, though as far as I know they're stationed near Athens...
Good video. Was very surprised you allowed the Rafale to get such a good position on you in fight #1 - that two circle positioning should have been a strong queue for you to change altitude immediately, that was probably the only thing that could have saved you from being hit.
Eurofighter, Gripen and Rafale all seem to not get the respect they deserve. It’s crazy that people are thinking of replacing Typhoons with the F-35 pretty much just because of stealth and electronics
Nice fights. However, I am not sure how many actual F-16 pilots can sustain turning continuously between 6.5 and 9.4 Gs for 45 to 60 seconds at a time, to outrate the Rafale.
Aye that looks like the main weakness of DCS and simulators in general to me. They don't punish and simulate the strain of high G quite as much as real life would
GS, as long as I remember you have made many videos with many great aircraft but barely few if any flying the Rafale. So please show the Rafale some love and drop some videos with you in the Rafale. Rafale vs F-16 with you on the Rafale would be a great starting point.
We see a lot of awesome videos of you in the F-16 against strong 1 circle bandits demonstrating how to force the 2 circle and then use the strengths of that jet to dominate the fight. I would love to see you do something similar for the F/A-18 or SU-27 on how to force the 1 circle to counter the strengths or the F-16 and other strong 2 circle jets. Obviously one way is to just bring Fox-2s so they have to stay 1 circle to jam the WEZ but it would be interesting to see how it can be done with guns only as well. Alternatively would be interesting to see how the F-16 does in more Fox-2 merges. I'm sure the high off bore helmet sight gives it an advantage there too but maybe hurt by the fact that it has to jam the WEZ and can't ditch into the 2circle as easily?
Growling Sidewinder I wish you here back in IL2 early days to teach me one and two circle fights, I had 2 squad mates who where both fantastic natural dogfighters (with insane kill death ratios) who intimately understood turning fights in their bones, neither had a great way to describe it. You do, a masterclass in technique and communication to us mortals
re - 6:26 "I personally think it's easier to force a 2-circle fight than a 1-circle fight." Dude, I asked that question so many times when I first started watching these videos and no one here ever answered which was easier to force. I feel so much better now...
As zanaduz points out, a fox 2 fight its a different animal There it's easier/more advantageous to be a good 1 circle fighter as it will allow you to quickly cash all your energy for a quicker fox 2 shot (in the Hobs era at least ).
Just watched one of your videos that wasn’t watched yet. And it’s about modern equipment and right after started complaining to myself. What a shame there isn’t more videos on his Chanel. Bang now there is :D
Great video, I dont know what you are doing but I keep getting sucked into your videos! One minute I’m just checking out a module and the next I’m going through all your videos haha, keep up the good work you are awesome
I love these comparison videos. You have really found your place in the DCS TH-cam sphere. I just hope one of these days you’ll call an ejection riding the Yeet Seat for a video.
This was great. And interesting. I read a series of SI FI books called "Fear the Sky" Really good. Nothing actually to do with flying but at one point 2 humanoid aliens got into a dog fight with one another. One in an F16 and one in the Rafale. The writer favored the Rafale.
I have a video request. My uncles flew an F-4 and a F-111. Unfortunately they both died in separate training accidents before I was born. Major Bob Rudiger's F-111 crashed on the Isle of Sky; years before his brother Jack's F-4 crashed in Spain. I was wondering if you could do some kind of a joint strike mission with an F-4 and an F-111 so I could see how these jets would be utilized?
Nice, I love watching the F16 do what it does best. I wonder if when it was designed the older aim-9's still required you to maneuver to your opponents six to get the best shot. As you have demonstrated its not the same with the HOB fox 2's . Anyway great videos as always
You're correct, when it was designed rear-aspect AIM-9s were still standard though by the time it entered service the all-aspect versions were taking over.
Growing up, I never liked the F-16. I was always an F-14/15 fan (hundreds of models). I am becoming a fan of the F-16 because of you. I just never understood it. Now I get it.
Do you think you'll do more mission and cinematic type stuff again? I love all your vids but I found you from the F-18 carrier missions and loved that stuff! I imagine it's a lot of work to make stuff like that, I just miss the carrier takeoffs and landings with the mission brief and stuff!
I can't help wondering what the Rafale pilot could have done differently. The viper seemed to be more than capable to deny a two circle engagement, so flying to its (the Rafale's) strengths seemed out of the question. What's the left? Take it vertical every time, using its thrust-weight ratio I think it has over the Viper?
I would really like to see this matchup again but this time it's a hobs fight, I think the Rafale would do a lot better in that situation (and was probably more designed for that than gun dogfights like the f-16 was)
Attempt 10! Anniversary one! Could you please show us ground strafes with different weapon setups from ground perspective? We all know how A10 Brrrt sounds from the ground and looks on target, some even know that for Viper's 20mm, but I really wonder how a 37 mm, 6 x 50 cal., 23 mm MiG-21 and 30 mm MiG-29 long strafes would look and sound on target! Also, could you please bring out the flying lol machine I-16 against the F-22?
I'm interested if fighters with high thrust/weight ratio(EF-2000, F-22, Su-57, J-20) can use high yo-yo to "win" two circle with F-16(if I remember normally at least first two struggled to)
This stuff is so cool. I would love it if you could at some point show some basic transition moves on how to try and force a one circle. I know you have done it multiple times but I still cant quite grasp the concept :D
He forced 2 circle by always following the opponent's tail, and you go for 1 circle by doing the opposite: pulling across and into them. You try to make it nose-to-nose instead of nose-to-tail.
Round 3 is a perfect example of how a barrel roll is an offensive, not a defensive maneuver. I don't care what Peppy Hare says. The loop lengthens your path so you can maintain energy without overshooting.
I think it's just done as good practice and out of habit. Nothing worse that getting into a FOX-2 fight and forgetting to or improperly flaring because you're out of practice.
