I've been a bluegrass musician for over 50 years and I only discovered Mr. White via accidentally receiving a internet article out of the Cardinal News in Virginia. My regret is that I haven't met him and had the honor to listen to his wonderful fiddling. While my main instrument is the 5 string banjo, I was raised in a family of old time music with my uncle playing old time fiddle and my father playing the two-finger drop thumb style of banjo while my mother played guitar left-handed. She played a right-hand guitar and could simply flip it over. She did this as a depression child and her father built the son a guitar and mama wanted to play badly. Granddaddy told her that if she wanted to play, then play. This band brings back those fond memories to me. All night music with plenty of alcohol involved! :) My mother didn't imbibe but the men sure did. I would love to meet Earl White some day. A trip to Floyd is now in my future.
I had to edit my post ... I got the name of this tune mistaken .. the fella I learned this tune from almost 30 years ago did indeed learn this from Earle White at a house party ... so ol" Earl's been playing Hickory for many , many years .. LOL

Earl is not only a killer on old-time fiddle, he was one of the original Green Grass Cloggers. We don't hear enough of him.
