How are there not more games with this cool style of graphics and animation.
The utter cost and amount of effort it takes. The creators of Cuphead literally put their homes on the line to make that masterpiece.
No one really bothers making these types of shooters anymore, everyone wants the insane realistic stuff

@@ironhell813 In case you didn't know, the first iteration of Mickey Mouse (Seen in the short "Steamboat Willie") has been recently given to public domain! Which means that yes, they could use the original Mickey's appearance in the game.
The original Mickey mouse shorts just went into public domain, that's why they can. So if it's obviously steamboat Willy Mickey mouse it shouldn't be a problem

I think if you kill an enemy with something that shoots rapidly, like the tommy gun, the death animation should show them with swiss cheese esque holes, like the cartoons, either way, looks fucking amazing, the death animations seems just slightly repetitive.
Definitely going on my wishlist!

I love rubber hose animation so much. The mixture of 3D and 2D immerses me and makes me feel like I'm in the 2D world. I love how the main character's weapons and how the special effects are animated, elevating the immersion. The way some 3D elements look as if they were 2D is also something that I enjoy. I think Mouse will be a good game.

Can't wait for this to come out! Just gotta remind myself that putting 2D drawings into a 3D environment is REALLY difficult, especially since you have to draw all of it and make sure it looks smooth.
They're animated models like normal, just 2D, like how flash and toon boom are made.
not really, i’ve worked with things like this, key thing is just making sure the models face the player at all times.
You dont have to draw all of it every scene. The 2d characters are all actually 3d gamewise, only their appearance is 2d.

Please! Map interactions looks so good! Make sure there are plenty of em. When ppl get bored of anumations and blablabla. Map interactions will always give a touch of creativity that never gets old and make players want to replay the levels
This is actually a fantastic idea for a boomer shooter. The cartoon violence fits the gunplay, and the 2D sprites have never looked more appropriate.

Doom style games are it’s own art style and i love every single one of them
They've become especially more valuable in the modern age where most games are clunky, low frame rate, cutscene/dialogue-driven nonsense that don't feel good to play or have the pacing constantly killed by what little control the player already had grinding to a halt.

It's a fun idea, but I wish the full environment was shaded in a way to make it look 2D as well. Perhaps that would be tough on the eyes though
If Return of the Obra Dinn managed to do what it did, I imagine it's probably feasible. Not that it would be easy to implement though.

Honestly, this is an actual genius concept. A shooting game that’s in a black and white rubberhose cartoon style, while also incorporating noir detective elements, and at the same time being safe from copyright due to Steamboat Willie being in the public domain! Can’t wait to see where this goes!
This game looks great I saw the first teaser and it lacked backgrounds. But this, this looks amazing and detailed. I'm excited for this one. And I'm glad they are taking their time and not rushing a release.

because they really really wanted to protect their orginal maskot.

100% agree. there needs to be more ragtag elements, like that clip where you shoot a rope and make a piano fall on someones head, or kicking a barrel to make enemies trip.

This has so much potential for a sequel. Just simply making the giant clock's bounce animation frame based here would be an addition.
Make it even more cartoony. Making him pull the cup like gum and drink the coffee like an exaggerated straw. Make killed enemies go into an animation where they stand still and the more you pepper them, the more holes they get like swiss cheese.
Making the tommy's barrel stretch out like a kiss. Call it Toomy's Gun. Holding the gun idly pointing up and only straight when shooting. As how some old cartoons had them throw down the gun like a hammer when firing for some reason. Straight from Bars and Stripes Forever by Looney Tunes. Makes no sense and looks silly, perfect.
Already love the use of sound effects and the aesthetic. All it needs is a static filter to really get that film reel feel.
Looking forward to it's release to play it through.
