I subscribed to your channel because of your honesty. It is much appreciated. Now that we're almost 1/2 way through the 2020's finding cars 40+ years old are getting harder to find. So my mindset is to try and save them all. I won't disagree with you that this Mustang would make a better donation car, but it has one thing that definitely is important: a clean title and VIN. This is a double edge sword, the position you're in unfortunately. If you let it go,for someone else to do it, one of at least 2 things could happen: someone else does a "rebody" with another Mustang that is 100% illegal, or they find someone who will just weld everything together, and call it good. It's a shame people who don't understand the difference between the cheap "replacement" sheetmetal parts and the ones that are built to "O.E.M." (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. I use this example; if you had a choice between an empty soda can or an empty soup can to stand on without falling, which one would you choose? The obvious answer is a soup can because it's stronger. So why would you want to use body parts made like soda cans instead of the factory parts made stronger like the soup can? Thanks for the update, looking forward to seeing more.😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I totally agree with the other comments. You’re a Saint for wanting to help this guy, but there’s no way you could do this for free. Anyone have Chip Foose’s number? 🧐 I’m thinking this would be right up his alley 😄
While watching a previous video I felt like you were getting emotional over the state of the car, and I felt like what a good man, I wish he could be my mechanic. I don't think you should even consider fixing this for free unless TH-cam can offset the costs, like you implied, your knowledge and honesty have value. It did strike me that maybe someone could weld it together with your guidance, and be up front with a potential seller and/or the owner that this isn't up to your standards, but the car is likely as safe as a typical 1965 Mustang. I also felt a little guilty, because I bolted and glued some sheet metal onto the floors of a 68 Mustang 35 years ago when I was in my early 20s, thinking it was adequate, and when I saw the owner a year later with some parts I found, they acted disgruntled.
Having run my own shop for ten years, I fell into the trap of thinking that putting myself out in favor of "helping" friends and customers who got in over their heads was a noble thing. In reality, it eats into your personal time and takes time away from profitable work that you should be doing. I finally woke up and realized that I was working my ass off doing work that wasn't paying the bills. That's when you realize that all those "friends, family and nice customers" aren't as appreciative as you thought...watch how quickly they kick you to the curb when you start refusing to do this shit work for them! My first thought when i saw the original video was, and still is, "RUN! THERE'S NO WAY I'D WORK ON THAT HUNK OF SCRAP!"
Besides working in various Mustang restoration shops when I was younger I also worked at what was the time a large first Gen Mustang parts supplier. The quality difference between a Ford tooling fender and Taiwan fender was scary. The other issue with the Tawain parts is the dyes used get worn and you can tell that the lines especially on the fenders were not sharp/crisp like the ford tooling. For floor pans I have seen at least 5 variations of quality / metal thickness.
I would be devastated to buy that and find out it was a rusty mess....who could throw away money.... hopefully u get a sponsor even just for sheet metal.
It's a shame someone paid actual money for this car. I mean it should have been rather obvious on a test drive that it was not solid AT ALL. Anyway, I hope you can save it and make it safe for the poor gentleman who got suckered into this death trap. I had a buddy years ago who bought a used Porsche Boxster that ended up being 2 cars welded and screwed together by some hack flippers. He paid full price for TWO Boxsters! LOL. He also drove it like he stole it, and I have no idea how he didn't die in that mess. He died while hooning on his street bike in Arizona while not wearing a helmet or any safety gear. Dude lived longer than he should have, in all honesty. Ya need to know your equipment and be able to trust in it, especially if it's going to be pushed to it's design limits....or beyond. Good luck, man, and God Bless.
I own a 67 mustang convertible that I bought new. It was always squirrelly, and when i converted it to discs and a shelby arning drop I discovered the UCA on the drivers side was off by almost an inch. Drunken *ss union ford craftsmanship at its best
I hate it when some people have nothing better to do with their time them get on line and blow people sh*t . Go find a life out of your mommy's basement and get a life. You seem to be an honest person and you care about that gentleman. Good luck
Would it be possible to tie in the torque boxes and frame rails with tube frame members? Pal probably doesnt care what it looks like underneath, he just wants something to ride into the sunset in.
Have you tried reaching out to other TH-cam restoration channels and try and sort some sort of a joint restoration and film it, it would be awesome to send it around different TH-cam restorers and completely restore it obviously with yourself at the different garages it would be one hell of a build series.would be nice to learn more about the old guy who owns it.
Everything is fixable... depending on how much money you want to put into it. With that said, if you are willing to fix it for free with a sponsor, have the customer buy the metal and keep moving on the project. Labor is the big expense!
Damn dude I will have to say that’s about the worse patched together car I have ever seen ! It is a death trap. I say border line criminal!!! It will be a miracle. I say if you fix it a little extra sheet metal added would be ok. It won’t never be “ original “ again but maybe with a little help it could be driven. It would be a great parts car though. Sad whoever done this shitty work! Good luck either way you go!! Love the videos by the way! You are a honest man I like it!! Spreading the word!
I have a 1967 Camaro convertible which I've owned for over 20 years - I've been collecting sheet metal for a restoration for many years but this video series has prompted me to rethink my strategy. The car is probably in similar condition to the featured Mustang before it was butchered. It'll never be a numbers matching original car - started life as poverty model (6 Cylinder, Saginaw 3 speed, no power anything) and now has a 400hp LT-1 hooked up to an M21 transmission - I have disc brake upgrades and power steering to be installed. However, I'm now wondering if it would be more cost effective and practical to buy a complete new shell ($13,500 from Dynacorn) rather than spending hundreds of hours welding and patching. This seems as though it would have been a better solution for the featured Mustang before it was bodged - even if the repairs had been done properly. Opinions gratefully accepted!
Auto metal direct perhaps? I know all about doing things for friends so I get that. Your personal bond with him is something to consider. He needs to understand it will take money to buy parts and supplies and that you can't absorb that expense. Good luck and keep making videos on this project. I did subscribe and gave it a like so I hope that helps in a small way
We had a intervention yesterday about it, I knew once I've seen it with a panel or two loose he would come around on it. I made the first metal order last night
First off you sticking with it is very commendable. As for NPD not willing to help...bad on them but as or other companies that possibly could I would look into Carperters given they are all Ford. Another possibility granted it wouldn't be new but you might inquire with Desert Valley given the rust free cars they have. I'm pulling for ya...it's a tough spot but I totally hate people who would sell something in that bad of shape to anyone much less a senior. Hopefully karma comes back around and they learn from their screwup. I did sub so I am here for the long haul with this rebuild.
I think you've got enough charisma and clearly all the expertise to make a go of this TH-cam gig. You've got the equipment level of a hardcore DIYer so the way you do things is relatable. The car is a waste of time under normal circumstances and the owner should let it go. But I guess... What is he your landlord for your shop? Maybe trade time for free shop rent for a bit and this ridiculous old bucket will keep building your channel 🙂
I do my best , He is just a guy that comes around , a friend of my landlord he has finally seen the light and agreed to fix it how I want to so there is that light shining in this tunnel
Those floors are just wasted. Can the quarters and rear panel be saved at this point, properly welded in and gotten halfway straight? Or are they too hacked up by the previous "work"? Right front fender would cost more in time than a decent repro.
This car is not worth fixing. It's a parts car or a donor car at best. A 65 convertible is not a rare car. It would cost more to fix it than the actual value of the whole entire car
Wow! That's an amazing lack of structural integrity. I'd wish the owner all possible luck in finding some recourse against the previous owner/rebuilder/flipper. On the matter of actually fixing it, I don't think I would trust a single weld anywhere on that car. Quarter panels seem to be self removing!
There needs to be some kind of hospice care for too far gone classic cars to rid the road of these rolling hazards. Some way to ease them into permanent disassembly and distribution of the useable salvage parts and scrappage of the too far gone shell. Because of the popularity of early Mustangs, there are a lot of these dangerous cars that are one collision away from disaster. It’s not worth the harm from bodily injury, but delusional owners gamble - putting themselves and others at risk.
Man, the guy who asks you to do it for free is delusional. He already has one, you can rebuild with the parts of this one, but he's impossible to talk back to his senses. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Some people are beyond help. I've been burned too many times when I was young because I wanted to help someone. This is a 15k job without the parts.
A neighbor once asked me to go look at a vehicle with him . The first thing i did was put a drop of oil from the dipstick and i tasted it . He freaked out . I told him i learned to do that in the military and i tasted gas in the oil which meant he shouldn't buy it . He told me he was going to buy it anyway because it had nice paint . Long story short it didn't last him 2 weeks . Can you believe nobody would fix it for free ?
Walk away ,say sorry but you would not sleep knowing this car was on the road , If you fix this car and he died ,the estate would sell the car not know the history ,if it were involved in an accident ,you would be liable for any injurys .
was the old guy blind????its seems strange that he didnt look at nothing as stuff is so obvious!!!he paid as you mention $10,000 for it 18:06 that would have been my first clue!!!!!!
Uncle Tony and Kiwi would probably throw the BS flag on this yarn and see it as grifting for views and parts. There is no way this is a flipper car, and in this video the story has been changed to a private sale. Too much doesn't add up here.
@BadWolf762 there are small time car flippers all over the country that's a private party sale . You know those guys in your town that haul in garbage cars and then you see it on marketplace (used to be Craigslist) all dolled up. So Think what you want there is no BS here
@@BadWolf762I can't agree more with you. Not the person who do the video, but the owner seems shady. He already has another one he could rebuild with the parts from this one, but he like the colour or something and refuse to use it, it sounds like he wants the job for free, and will sue the mechanic or will flip the car once it's repaired. I hope not, but I've been burned so many times to trust people. Edit: english isn't my language. Sorry for the mistakes.
Why waste your talent on fixing this coupe? Have the buyer get a lawyer and return the car and get a refund. Clearly he was taken. Being a senior citizen should be even more of a reason for returning the car to the crooked seller.
There is no way that car drove and rode well. A bumpy road would be the end of that car. I hope he decides to use this as a donor so we can all sleep good at night! Good luck with it and your channel.
You need to get a go pro mount and go pro or some other way to hold your camera. This way you can show us the work while you talk. Talking into a camera for 20 minutes comes across like a high school lecture.
Those old mustang were a cheap entry or second car back when they were new ,back when I was in high school in the 70's you buy a first gen mustang for $500.00 or less they were not the best of cars then and now. Seems like $10k seems to be a project car now days. At this price they all have problems and issue that need work and money. They are prone to rust issue especially in areas you can not see. I see mustangs at $25k and up and I would still take them to a place to have a second opinion. Good luck just like any hobby car you do it for the love of the hobby and owning a car of your dreams, more often that comes with a high price and when you get it to where you need the car to be what you want it is always cost more than what to have in it.

That's the big thing worn dies, bad thicknesses for sure
I would be devastated to buy that and find out it was a rusty mess....who could throw away money.... hopefully u get a sponsor even just for sheet metal.
That’s why people should get a pre purchase inspection…especially on a 60 year old car …
100 years from now 66 coupes will be a dime a dozen, not worth it.
These guys should be named and shamed stop them screwing someone else.
I'm still digging into the back story on my end
I agree completely. There is no way that the seller should be able to get away with this rip off.
Why is it the sellers fault? the buyer should have paid $100 for a pre purchase inspection…. On a 60 year old car 🤦♂️
What a project good luck.
Absolutely
I hope he will go for the shell replacement,
He won’t, no way he’s putting more than another $2-3k in this project
Have you tried reaching out to other TH-cam restoration channels and try and sort some sort of a joint restoration and film it, it would be awesome to send it around different TH-cam restorers and completely restore it obviously with yourself at the different garages it would be one hell of a build series.would be nice to learn more about the old guy who owns it.
They’re not interested unless the other channel is bigger and going to get them big traffic like VGG.
Thanks for sharing.
Good luck with getting parts and material donated
Only even mentioned because it was asked in the previous videos comments
Everything is fixable... depending on how much money you want to put into it. With that said, if you are willing to fix it for free with a sponsor, have the customer buy the metal and keep moving on the project. Labor is the big expense!
Nobody can afford to fix a car for free. Thats just crazy. Looking at the sheer amount of work you have to do
Absolutely, I'd love to be able to but everyone has bills 😔
With these complete shells available it's definitely more cost effective then patching up a rusty car and you know it is rust free in the end
Great video...I subbed
If money can fix it, it ain't broken.
looked at 73 mach one last fall new paint shinning aftermarket wheels and bondo, bondo bondo
I believe it
Whoever suggested to do it for free are trolling
This guy may never be happy no matter how much u try do u go broke trying to please him cheers 🥂 😊
Hey ....I was thinking it might be a good idea to weld in some cross support bars before you cut out a lot of metal. What do you think ?
Probably once everything is back within a tolerance it will be the way to go
Just do it right!!!! The money will come either from the owner or others but please fix this little pony !!!!!!
Looks like a project, too bad you werent with him when he bought it, good luck???
It would saved him a lot of heartache for sure
Those floors are just wasted. Can the quarters and rear panel be saved at this point, properly welded in and gotten halfway straight? Or are they too hacked up by the previous "work"? Right front fender would cost more in time than a decent repro.
Depending on what's hidden under the roof joint I think they can be saved
This car is not worth fixing. It's a parts car or a donor car at best. A 65 convertible is not a rare car. It would cost more to fix it than the actual value of the whole entire car
Have you tried dry ice to get that tar stuff off the floor pan? Cool it so much it shatters when hit.
maybe perhaps you get get some resto shops to donate time and parts. but nobody works for free so its a tough situation.
Free???? That's crazy!!!!

Liked and subscribed!
Thanks for watching
Wow! That's an amazing lack of structural integrity. I'd wish the owner all possible luck in finding some recourse against the previous owner/rebuilder/flipper. On the matter of actually fixing it, I don't think I would trust a single weld anywhere on that car. Quarter panels seem to be self removing!
Definitely had self removing panels !
Oops forgot LOVE the Torino Cobra in the opening!!!!!
Thanks it's a ever changing project
Currently working on 66 mustang with a Cleveland in it full cage and narrowed rear
@@Tom-ki3lq Love, the Cleveland!
That’s scary bad!!!
I would suggest having UTG and Kiwi look at the videos and give their feedback on it.
All those saying that you should fix it for free should just STFU.Probably all of them want EVERYTHING for free. And NONE of them are self employed.
It had to be a rattle trap no radio in the world could drown that out!
Aren't you in Tennessee? Maybe you can collab with Vtuned or Goonzsquad, that would be awesome if they helped you out. They are near Chattanooga.
You need to get a go pro mount and go pro or some other way to hold your camera. This way you can show us the work while you talk. Talking into a camera for 20 minutes comes across like a high school lecture.
I have a car in my back yard in better bad shape than that. And i am considering making it a parts vehicle to bring others to life.
It doesn't take much to be a better car
contact Green Sales in Cincinnati, Ohio... tell them Joe Stein sent you... won't help but it will confuse the hell out of them... ;-)
😆
