???? The church I belong to started on the day of Pentecost. I have no idea how it looked as the centuries past, but we all have the New Testament that describes what I need to do be saved and added to the Ekklasia.
@@dB_944That’s pretty much the origin of every Protestant denomination ever. They look at what their church is doing and say, “That’s not biblical! We need to go back to the Bible!” Then later the same thing happens in that church. Repeat ad nauseum.
I've seen some congregations add the words “meets here” to their church signs. I wish all congregations did that. How I see it, “Church of Christ” isn't a name but a commitment. If we are going to be of Christ, then we must do what He commanded. The guys in this video clearly want to be part of His Church. If anyone wants to hold their feet to the fire, open your Bibles and verify what they preach and practice is really of Christ or not.
Very true evidence brother's church of Christ trying to follow first century practices starting with Pentecost we must all continue to study the word God bless y'all keep teaching the truth
Most denominations are trying to interpret the Bible in a way that is consistent with the early church as intended by the apostles. The only thing that makes CoC different is the name. For instance, baptists came about not because they wanted to start a brand new church, they simply saw pedo-baptism as unbiblical and wanted to correct it.. no different from Stone/Campbell. Same with Martin Luther.
If anyone interprets the Bible in the way they were taught in the first-century by the Apostles, and if anyone chooses to believe and obey what was taught, then they will be added to the same Church. There's no need to follow some denomination; setup by someone later. If Stone, Campbell, Luther, Calvin, Wesley, Smith, Augustine, or anyone else happens to preach the correct doctrine, it doesn't matter. All that matters is what Christ taught and instructed His Apostles through the Holy Spirit to the Church. I'll follow Christ.
My friend, having been a previous Baptist, there are many, many things that Baptists teach that are unbiblical. Baptist grew out of the calvinist movement. The calvinist movement was a reaction against the excesses of the Catholic church prior to the reformations. They overexecuted they over corrected. For example, once saved always saved. This is a lie. Also, they do not baptize for the remission of sins. I know I was never baptized for the remission of sins in the Baptist Church. I was voted into their church. This too is unbiblical. The Bible teaches that when we are baptized we are added to the church. My friend, as you see the Church of Christ you think there is a denomination and your statements are upon that assumption. But on the day of Pentecost when Peter was preaching when he talked about the Church of Christ, he was not talking about a denomination. And when I tell you the Church of Christ, I am talking about the very same church that Jesus Christ Said would be his church and that he died for and bled for. That is the church I want to be in, not a denomination and nothing else. You are confused. If you think the Church of Christ, the biblical Church of Christ is the denomination. It is not.
The medal of freedom is not a valid analogy. United States law only allows it to be awarded to the living, and never on behalf of the deceased. You need a living neck on which to place it, and the earthly owner of that neck is the one to which it's awarded. It's also illegal to award it by proxy
Listen, I love this show and I have always worshipped in conservative COC circles, but as a historian, saying we are not a denomination is just as absurd as the KJV only argument.
Why? How are these two things related? What's absurd about wanting to only be part of the original Church Jesus established in the Bible? Why do I need to join any denomination started later?
@@waynebland6754there’s NO WAY you can prove a direct link to the original church that Christ spoke of. Maybe the present day church tries to imitate the original intention.
@@rogerjohnson7667 If we do what they were taught, why can't we be what they were? Why then do I need to prove a direct/physical/historical link to you? This is what Jesus was saying in John 3:8 about people being born of the Spirit. The Church is spiritual not physical. And yes we try to be imitators, just as it says in Ephesians 5:1 - "Therefore be imitators of God as dear children." I still don't see why I have to join a denomination to be part of His Church.
And yet every single scripture they gave is accurate. Jesus did say he was going to build one and only one Church. Paul did say that there would be one and only one body. Jesus did say that on the final day of judgment there would be many who would think that they were in the right church but are not. This is a warning to me and you to seek first his word and to obey it, not to make excuses for the many man-made institutions that call themselves churches. I hope you will let your standard be the Bible , and not the religious world around you.
And by the way, I live out West here where the average person has little to absolutely no church or Biblical background. Try to convert them to WE ARE THE RIGHT CHURCH and see if they don’t get disgusted with you. You have to show people the need for Christ, appreciation of Christ and convert them to Christ. Peter did NOT present the church on the day of Pentecost. It was just mentioned that the converts to Christ were added to the church or God’s kingdom. Absurd. One thing the COC does have right is baptism but you don’t convert people to baptism. I’ll tell you what, the way you old timers, and I am an old timer, present the church has almost killed the COC. In numbers the COC is almost dead. When will you ever get it? It is not the church, it is Christ. Maybe when your generations dies off, new preachers will get it. I doubt it though, because this “not a denomination” gets it’s doctrines from the old established colleges which organizations present the predetermined doctrine of the denomination. So sad. I grieve over it especially as I present the true gospel, the death, burial and resurrection to people, not the church. Even after I bring someone to Christ, I do not teach them “We are right, everyone else is wrong.” I just study the truth with them. You know what, I know you got your doctrine, the way it is presented, from Guy N Woods and Gus Nickels. So you slant the Bible the way they did. How about you wake up and convert someone who is lost to Christ and save their soul from hell, instead of converting people to the COC????? Your presentation on this program is not to convert people, it is to prove you are right.
@ Peter gave the first sermon and presented Christ. He did not present “we are the right church.” Presenting and arguing that we are the right church , the way this video is presented, is not the way to present Christ. People with no religious background recoil and don’t want to hear it. Do you want to present the church. Well, study church history. The original church turned into the Roman Catholic Church and eventually became so corrupt, murderous, keeping the Bible from the people, burning people alive for translating the Bible and so on. That is what necessitated Martin Luther to rebel and start the Protestant Revolution. Out of the that “the church” developed Calvinism and Lutheranism and eventually Baptists, everyone trying to find the truth once they got the Bible. And then the protestant church around Calvin’s time burned Christians at the stake for being baptized as adults or drowned them. Later on to get back to the Bible Alexander Campbell started a movement called the Church of Christ just as others started movements to get back to the Bible like the Methodist. Just because we, the COC, claim we are the original church because we baptize and use the right name, other denominations also claim to be Christ’s church because they follow the Bible. Every church has some error, the COC included. That is the number one criticism of Christianity, all churches have error. And if anyone thinks the COC has no error, they don’t know their Bibles. Today Christ is to be presented, not we have the original correct church. Christ is not presented that way anywhere in the Bible.
It may not be what people want to hear. All I want to believe is what Jesus did and taught. If I obey Him, then I'm part of His Church. Does Scripture teach any differently? I'm not as old as these guys, but fortunately that seems to be really simple to understand.
The word CHRISTIAN is a follower of CHRIST,at that time the JEWS, GENTILES, Greeks and Sadducees, they were not Christian, but when u accept JESUS been born again in CHRIST to be added as a CHRISTIAN to be a follower of CHRIST,so any one must be BAPTISE to become a Christian, all were called CHRISTIAN in Antioch
JESUS was looking for one of his disciple to preach the first GOSPEL on penticost, that's why JESUS ask for his disciples, who do say I am,then Peter stood up and said the words JESUS wanted to hear made Peter to preach the first GOSPEL for people to believe obey and be BAPTISE,and so did the church start
Christ made the plan simple. It’s man that has corrupted it and made it complicated such that it makes it near impossible to unravel and go back to understanding there Christ established one church.
Brethren it's fine let the people say what they want to say it's becus we speak where the HOLY BIBLE speak, the people don't like baptism they don't want to change, they are not prepare to fulfilled the GOSPEL as what JESUS wanted for lol it's fine JESUS said it so we will come a cross such people
Great informative program with supportive scriptures, appreciate "thus said the Lord" based. We must "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" John 5:39. Be as the Berea having "all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures daily" to see "whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11).
Our family watched this tonight and were blessed by the lesson. Thank You Mike and BJ, great insights good questions!
The CoC you are talking about began in 1827 with the Walter Scott plan of salvation.
As a member of the CoC this is our history.
I've never heard of Walter Scott. And I don't care much for history outside the Church in the first-century.
???? The church I belong to started on the day of Pentecost. I have no idea how it looked as the centuries past, but we all have the New Testament that describes what I need to do be saved and added to the Ekklasia.
We should be thankful for men like Campbell who questioned what they were doing when they compared it to the New Testament and acted upon it.
