You almost improve yourself which is just amazing I think. The way you see the world is just so motivating and inspiring. Thank you❤️
First off - I loved this-- especially Your Kiera Knightly / Lizzie ( your ability to change your appearance with makeup to capture another persons facial nuances just amazes me every time. and your Emma!!!! Simply delightful!!! ..... and .... If a person has recently discovered a bunch of patterns from 50s thru 90’s that belonged to their mother and grandmother and wanted to send a few that seem very Maksy to you, How would they do that?
This looks like so much stinkin fun! I really loved the "Emma" but I have to say that the "Marianne" wasn't as bad as you think. Redo the sleeves and give the waist gathers a bit of an iron and it'll be much better. Also in the fall rather than the height of summer. My birthday is not the time to dress up unless it's all linen.
This was not the Lestat look I was thinking you were trying to recreate, but damn it was good ! Watching you doing home stuff, groceries and picnic in Regency outfits was so entertaining ! Also, someone truly needs his Oscar for this wonderful performance 😂
DUDE, you nailed 1995!!!!! You have such a knack for converting modern clothes, this is hands down your best one yet. And the ankles are perfectly period appropriate. But you didn't tell us about the Emma one, was it a prom dress? Did you make the vest thingy?
I loved ALLLLLL of this! And you can ABSOLUTELY dye a finished garment- and since you sewed it yourself you'll even have leftover fabric to dye test unlike when I dye old/thrifted stuff and have to wing it to get the colour right. 🙃
You can absolutely dye finished garments! Though you'll probably want to do some test runs on a scrap piece, since the color is already so rich? It might be hard to tell at first how much dye you need for it to show up or what the color will turn out like (so you don't end up with an arctic fox Ariel hair situation again because I've done that to clothes 😂💜)
Ohhhh boi, if my sleep deprived brain didn't have a ball with this video - I literally cried in joy with your excitement about the Becoming Jane dress and had an uncontrollable fit of laughter at the skeleton bit that made have to stop the video to recompose (said fit promptly came back with the hair sequence for Emma). You are a gift to the world, Rachel, I hope you know that.
When you do these makeup transformations they totally work! The first one was especially convincing, I feel like one of the babies in those videos where their dad shaves their beard and then they can't recognise him anymore and I love it
"Now that I look even more like Lestat than I did yesterday..." I honestly thought that's what you were doing when I saw the short yesterday. 🤣🤣🤣 Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 Also, mad props for doing all this in the heat that has been this week's constant! (It's bad enough down here in Maryland that I haven't even tried to film anything because I'm NOT able to cope with temps over 80F. 😭😭😭) You looked awesome!
Frodo did very well as a swooning female. Loved that scene. As for the last dress, eh, half the problem is Regency styling. At its best, it ain't great on most of us. Thanks for being you, inspiring many of us to let our weird out in public.
I liked every single look but my faves were Mr Knightley and Colonel Brandon! 😏Loved the Lestat and Howl vibes as well. I know you don't particularly like recency but you look great in it! The Elizabeth Bennett hack dress looked incredible, as did Emma and every other character. You're so fricking good at this! Geez Louise.
Yes. All of this is just a big beautiful chef kiss yes. But editing Rachel changing that sign to “excellent boiled potatoes” was by far the best part. Because potatoes.
Really appreciate all the amazing work that you put into these videos. Getting out in costume is all about brazening it out. True story: Some years ago my cousin decided to hold a Medieval-style wedding, including all the guests in full medieval outfits. It was a blast... tumblers, feasting, archery, court jester, minstrels. Only trouble was, an election was called, and it clashed with her wedding day, and here in Australia voting is compulsary. Still remember the look on the polling officials faces when we all trouped in to vote in full medieval gear!
I appreciate you talking about being hot and sweaty - it's an excellent response for people who blame me feeling too hot on just my weight: thin women feel too hot frequently too!
Ha! I poured sweat in the summer and wore tank tops and flip flops in the snow when I was young and skinny. I tell people who try to blame my weight for me being hot that I run cooler now than I did years ago. Slightly cooler. I tolerate sleeves now.
When you did the keira makeup, you looked like an entirely different person. I don't know if it was because of the change of eyebrow shape but it was amazing that you turned into another person.
I am a 30 year old male (granted gay as the day is long) and I just love Rachel's channel! Any other male fans of Rachel? (Also, I do wish ThredUp sold men's clothes. Seems like a missed opportunity.)
Oh my god I KNOW how ridiculous is it they dont sell men's wear! My roommate (who's currently experimenting with their gender identity) is so frustrated that they can get masculine clothing from thred up
Hello there, dear fellas! I also watch Rachel's channel for years. And by the old gods, I really want to start sewing XVIII-XX century menswear. But it's so hard to find some good pattern's with explanation for beginners.
For me, the Regency style is not particularly flattering on the female form because it hides any form of waist, similar to the 1920's era. It seems to suit body types such as 1995's Pride and Prejudice, Georgiana (Emilia Fox) and Caroline Bingley (Anna Chancellor). It favors the tall and lean, to further appear tall and graceful. All that being said, Rachel looks stunning in both the female and male versions of the 1810s, certainly to no ones surprise.
@@aniE1869 Yeah, might as well go full 'Gentleman Jack' and dress in men's attire (although that's the 1830's). I think that style is very flattering on both a masculine and feminine shape.
I love this video! I’ve been doing “mod regency” these past 2 years and I use the maxi skirt/top hack all the time, it’s so good! Your ability to transform your face will never cease to amaze me! 🥰
Marianne is my favorite! It's really motivating to me to see your "imperfect" projects. All too often social media only shows perfect and ideal outcomes, which is SO not my life... thank you for this!! Really appreciate it!
When you first put on the Marianne wig, my first thought was Bernadette Peters, and now I need a video of you making a gown that could fit in the universe of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella with Brandy.
I said hi to you at Brimfield! More accurately, I forgot how to use words and then ran away swiftly with my *social anxiety*. Your Jane dress looked very pretty and caught my attention before I saw who was wearing it.
The "underwear"/summerweight Regency white cosplay "gown" is wonderful. When you lept in wearing it, I immediately thought of Bernadette's sibling, dressed up like the painting (the look that probably took 300 hours to hand stitch). You nailed the impression & silhouette *chef's kiss* The pink is super cute
I used a Jane Austen pattern to make my granddaughter Wendy’s dress from Peter Pan. It was blue and turned out pretty and she was very appreciative. My favorite was the dress you wore with the other two girls and made me hungry for macrons.
When you were first putting on that last blonde wig for a second you looked like Katherine from "The Great"! Also! The "maybe don't have a picnic with your friends when it's 90° out" was such a mood! My friends and I tried to have a tea party on 4th of July and it was SO HOT OUTSIDE we ended up playing in the sprinklers later. 😂
You're one of two creators for whom I open my notes app when I start a video, in case I want to write long-ass comments. Just you and Adam Savage. Goblin pride! I love the Secret Pants a lot. Aaaah fond memories of you getting extremely confused while making them. "Why do I have to go to the craft store?" GIRL WE DON'T NEED A REASON. Love your attitude of leaning into the weird. I've been meaning to get around to recreating your Mosscore embroidery...basically ever since you did it. Welp. I'll get there one day. It's wintertime here and all these layers and vests look so cozy. "Browsing for meats," is that why the kids are calling it these days? Home improvements in Regency cosplay? One might almost call you...a Handy Dandy...
Rachel, you never cease to impress me with your skills and humor. The picnic with your friends was just adorable. I am a woman in her mid forties, but boy did I want to join you guys for some regency fun! I liked all your outfits, even the Marianne one. My favorite was the whole Emma look, top drawer.
I wish I was brave enough to go out in public dressed up like that. I swear Rachel can pull off any look! 😍edit omg love the Emma and Marianne gowns. I know you hate the Marianne gown but the overall effect is so good! Chef’s kiss 😘
I totally get being nervous about going out in public in something other than the standard, dressed down, jeans and a t-shirt. It was terrifying at first, gave me some "I'm the weirdest kid in my class" flashbacks. Then I came to the realization that if it's perfectly ok for people to wear spandex spanks and pajamas to the grocery store, I can wear whatever the "fluff" I want. Life's too short to not indulge your unique fashion sense if it brings you joy.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that I do not know what the frick I'm doing" - Rachel Maksy, 2022 Honestly same Also Nick is such a sweetheart, where do I get one of those? 😉😅
I've had food poisoning for four days. I literally passed out on the plane ride home, didn't sleep for 24 hours, generally had a really rough time, but the moment Rachel paced dramatically in front of the fireplace before carrying Frodo (aka damsel in distress) made me laugh like a maniac. Am now cured. Very magical.
I'm glad the Canadian Cobra Chicken (goose) you had a discussion with was nicer than most!! Also glad to see you publicly embracing your inner weird. It's very freeing.
Best was the Jane look for sure. It is adorable and you should wear it all the time. I think the Marianne look nailed the aesthetic of the character. Don’t have a least fave. They were all fun!
I really liked what you did with this "I dress as xxx" video, taking us throughout the day even if what you were doing wasn't super involved. you seem like you're in good spirits too, which is nice :)
I know this is a regency themed video, but I just have to say that that basement has the perfect lighting to do a pirate-in-a-tavern-esque photoshoot. Idk why, but that's just what I thought the entire time you were down there P.S: Love the video! I was super happy when I saw the notification and couldn't wait to get home to watch it! The outfits are amazing and I only wish I knew where you got all of them from! (Very jealous) 💜
I love these week-long costume videos, but the answer is yes, IT'S A LOT OF COSTUMES. You have full permission to give yourself a break and to make it a five day work week, or just a weekend of looks.
I appreciate you sharing your less than perfect projects! I feel like I can relate much more to you than other creators who seem to do everything perfectly. And honestly, I’m sorry, but I CACKLED when you walked on screen with your Marianne dress hunched over looking disconcerted 😂 you bring me so much joy
To be fair, the last one looks like a pregnancy dress, which means it's not entirely bad, just not the right model! Also, please keep doing Kiera impressions, they're so spot on 👏💝
My new mantra in life especially with eyeliner is now "Good Enough!" And yes, I do sing the words in your voice lol. Also watching this while sitting on my bed airing out all of my lady parts in the air conditioning. Oh how I loathe summer. I appreciate you and all of your sweat for making this video for our enjoyment. ❤️❤️❤️

He love's watching your videos; he'll lay in a little sploot on the floor in front of the tv with his neck craned up at what has to be an uncomfortable angle and wag his tail when you talk. Edit: The thunder in this video scared him and he ran out of the room though, so there may not be a whole lotta loyalty to go along with the love.

Rachel looks amazing with every hair color ever and I can't deal. The red! The brown! The blonde! Like how.
Ooh good idea!!
This video is a better tribute to Austen than Persuasion 2022
All I'ma say is I'm in Texas and I would kill for your temps
@@akashanumberfive199 I would love for you to have them.
I thought she was doing Stede from OFMD
The Emma look was my FAV! 😍 Very different but so “stinkin’ cute”! (And the Colonal Brandon damsel in distress clip had me rolling. 🤣
I was drinking when I watched this video and when Rachel demonstrated her damsel in distress I spat all over everything and myself…😂
Mine too! So cute.
Spoken like a true Hobbit !
@@m.maclellan7147 haha. Or a 2005 P&P fan. Oh Mr Collins……
“I don’t know. I don’t know” is Marianne. Spot on! Well done Rachel! All beautiful. Emma is my favorite!
Oh my god that image is _amazing_ ! 😂😂 Thank you so much for sharing and putting it in my head, I love this!!!
Rachel is the most precious being on the internet and must be protected at all cost! LOVED this content 💖💕❤️
I appreciate you talking about being hot and sweaty - it's an excellent response for people who blame me feeling too hot on just my weight: thin women feel too hot frequently too!
What? What? Of course. OMG! Tell them they can watch Rachel Maksey sweat her arse off 🤣
Tell those people that your hypothalamus called and it wants its job regulating your body temperature back
My roommate (who's currently experimenting with their gender identity) is so frustrated that they can get masculine clothing from thred up
I'm a bisexual man who is also a Rachel fan! The amount of fun in her videos is abundant.
I agree, ThredUp needs to get on the menswear ball.
Straight trans man here! The lack if menswear on threadup is tragic. Maybe we can start a petition?
Hello there, dear fellas! I also watch Rachel's channel for years. And by the old gods, I really want to start sewing XVIII-XX century menswear. But it's so hard to find some good pattern's with explanation for beginners.
Pansexual male-adjacent nonbinary entity here; also a big fan of Rachel, and also displeased with threadup's lack of masculine clothing 😅
I would wear the men's fashion from that era! Much more interesting.
@@aniE1869 Yeah, might as well go full 'Gentleman Jack' and dress in men's attire (although that's the 1830's). I think that style is very flattering on both a masculine and feminine shape.
Yes, it really doesn't accentuate any curves...I would look like a walking cylinder LOL
@@omegasage777 It does have a bit of a nightgown vibe, doesn't it? Haha
Phew I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like Regency fashion, 1770’s are my favorite and the most flattering in my opinion!
I also thought Bernadette Peters, but her transformed Witch look from Into the Woods!
I said hi to you at Brimfield! More accurately, I forgot how to use words and then ran away swiftly with my *social anxiety*. Your Jane dress looked very pretty and caught my attention before I saw who was wearing it.
I played Georgiana Darcy in my schools production of Pride and Prejudice and these all really brought me back to the costumes :))
11:27 I SEE THAT (WHEEZE) SHIRT! You cannot hide from me fellow Unsolved/Watcher fan >:D
your keira knightly impressions have me HOWLING hjahaaha
The "underwear"/summerweight Regency white cosplay "gown" is wonderful. When you lept in wearing it, I immediately thought of Bernadette's sibling, dressed up like the painting (the look that probably took 300 hours to hand stitch). You nailed the impression & silhouette *chef's kiss*
The pink is super cute
Stellar use of notes!
You “wang’d” it!
As always, such delight you brought to us.
And your Jennifer Coolidge impression is tops! 😽
Yes to both!
I'm in my mid 60s and would love to join them too
I wish I was brave enough to go out in public dressed up like that.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that I do not know what the frick I'm doing" - Rachel Maksy, 2022
Honestly same
Also Nick is such a sweetheart, where do I get one of those?
🤣🤣🤣 Canadien Cobra Chicken
Best was the Jane look for sure. It is adorable and you should wear it all the time. I think the Marianne look nailed the aesthetic of the character. Don’t have a least fave. They were all fun!
I really liked what you did with this "I dress as xxx" video, taking us throughout the day even if what you were doing wasn't super involved. you seem like you're in good spirits too, which is nice :)
It took me years of watching but I finally figured it out! Rachel, you look like Judy Garland, Carrie Fisher, and Shirley Temple had a beautiful baby🥰
I often think she looks like Carrie Fisher. She did the cosplay look and was identical.
@@malicemacey If she were still alive I bet she would be impressed by Rachel.
@@itwasagoodideaatthetime7980 who wouldn't be, I mean she is a lowkey legend
If you were wearing those outfits during New England’s recent heat wave, wow, you have true grit. This is shorts, t-shirts, and AC weather.
I know this is a regency themed video, but I just have to say that that basement has the perfect lighting to do a pirate-in-a-tavern-esque photoshoot. Idk why, but that's just what I thought the entire time you were down there
P.S: Love the video! I was super happy when I saw the notification and couldn't wait to get home to watch it! The outfits are amazing and I only wish I knew where you got all of them from! (Very jealous)
💜
Jane Austen yes! I see Persuasion is causing obsessive tendencies in other people too!
I love these week-long costume videos, but the answer is yes, IT'S A LOT OF COSTUMES. You have full permission to give yourself a break and to make it a five day work week, or just a weekend of looks.
The Marianne wig before styling was giving strong 'Geena Davis in Beetlejuice' vibes.
I thought Thelma and Louise
But I thought you already were a Jane Austen character, Rachel 🥺
All jokes aside, you look stunning as always, and congrats on a million subs 😄
I recently got a puppy and I think he's in love with you.
You really nailed the Keira Knightly makeup: that was spot on! 👌
Loved this video! 1995 version of P&P all the way, beebe!!
My faves were Emma and Lizzie (1995 version, cuz... ya know)
This my favourite channel. Rachel never fails to make me smile and honestly give me the confidence in my own sewing. So much love for the loveliest of ladies! 💛 thanks for being you Rachel
Absolutely loved the Jane Austen dress you made. That was my absolute favourite look.
The braid flip with the sound at the end!!!
Also, I like them all but the the white Regency dress you made with the skirt is just wow! Simple but effective!
I've had such bad anxiety I haven't been able to sleep for days and watching this video finally made me feel comfy enough to sleep. Thank you for always making comfy, funny, cute, aesthetic videos like these. (Your sunroom makeover video also works magic on my nerves, too)
Also the part where you laid in the grass because it was so hot was just, colors were magnifique. Gave me a blast of 1993 Secret Garden and that whole aesthetic. Super lovely video, thank you!❤️
The moon walking into shot was a nice touch.🤣
"I can show you... (the world) the outfit (nvm), that I got" had me chuckling to myself 😂
