- Are buoyancy classes really necessary for new scuba divers, or are they just an upsell? In this video, we dive deep into the debate over whether additional buoyancy training is essential for improving your skills underwater-or if it’s just another course you don’t need. Great video, thanks! I just took the SSI Perfect Buoyancy course in Costa Rica and I learned a lot.
This was a good video. Though the closed captioning was distracting and unnecessary. If someone needs closed captioning they can hit the cc button
Nice shoutout to james at divers ready. You can tell he really cares. Bryan with lake hickory scuba is much the same way.
Great video great advice thanks for sharing 🤙🤙🤙 Stay safe Dive safe
Thanks, you too for watching. Are you a yay or nay kinda guy when it comes to buoyancy courses?
Great video .
Glad you liked it, did you find the video helpful?
Awesome video and advice! I truly wish more (all) instructors would teach neutral buoyancy from the get go as you do. I was taught OW kneeling (and heavy) and went into AOW still heavy, but not kneeling. But I could not understand why attempted little movements up and down were so dramatically not little…. Until I watched a lot of videos on buoyancy. This is even with peak performance buoyancy as part of my AOW - even that instructor had me heavy. I knew no better. Thankfully I was able to learn through videos and rereading the course material and my buoyancy has improved significantly since then, and my weight needs have decreased considerably.
Is this a valuable course? absolutely! Should it be a course? Probably not - it really should be a fundamental skill taught from day one.
That said, many will still get value from the course! And this isn’t likely to change any time soon.
We've noticed just how many people come to us requesting unbelievable amounts of lead, and then sink like a stone... I honestly wish more were taught about the concepts of diving lighter. But it takes time, and patience from the instructors.... And that's a different discussion when margins are wafer thin
@@DeeferDivingyes, I do understand that margins are wafer thin and the dive shops are doing what’s necessary for them and still technically teaching their students the fundamentals.
And there are many who don’t care - they’re happy with the instruction they received and the price they paid and that they can do scuba. The holiday divers.
My bet is that those who would like more and better instruction from the get go are the minority. These are people that are more engaged in scuba.
Well we're an organisation that teaches principally those holiday divers. More of what we do comes from taking them fun diving than teaching, but we have professional pride and professional standards that we want to adhere to. Not because an agency says these are the minimum standards, but because we want people to be proud to have learned with us, and want to come back. The team and I strive to continuously learn and keep refreshing our skills, because we just love that we're fortunate enough to be able to do something we love...
....if I'd wanted to make a fortune I'd have stayed in investment banking...lol
@ from your videos and comments, it’s obvious that you and your crew care and take pride in what you do. That’s one of the reasons I have subscribed and enjoyed your channel. I hope my comment did not offend.
I would love to learn in an environment like yours and more so from individuals like you.
Sadly too many people want to rush through things to get their certificate. Then too many instructors or shops want to rush as many students through since they make more money
