I have a TON of stories from this draft and from 2019. I was working for Florida State basketball at the time, so we played Marvin Bagley, Wendell Carter, Zion, Ja, etc. We even recruited Kevin Knox and had him on a visit because one of his parents went to FSU. Fun times
@@youknowball its at 2:52:00 of the bleacher report 2018 NBA draft live stream, but if you search on youtube "Terry Rozier calls to Danny Ainge on live show to ask him about Celtics' pick" a Timi clip of it is there.... its fantastic, Terry calls Ainge when Philly was on the clock and asks him who the Celtics were going to pick
I was never more sold on any prospect before a draft as I was with Luka since I started paying attention to the draft process… As soon as I saw him play against OKC at like 16 I was enamored
@@Joeshiesty286 Honestly though I genuinely don't feel like we lost the trade as a Hawks fan. We got an all-star level player that brought us to the conference finals his 3rd season. We just have to build around him better. Luka's team missed the playoffs the year before because they didn't build well around them. Role players are much more important now.

I live in Kentucky and am a huge UK fan… hearing Bill namedrop Matt Jones from KSR was insane. It’s the worst kept secret in KY that Jones is an absolute asshole (I have friends who worked for him who have horror stories) who basically hit the SEO lottery and was loud enough to become a media guy here. He’s an idiot who knows very little, so not shocked Simmons would trust him in his early peak (around this time) but drop him soon after. Actually makes me like BS more that he detached
What has Luka done other than run off two very good teammates (Brunson, KP) and be a ball dominant player who is HORRIBLE defensively?!?!?!? Not only didn't he lead his country to a medal in the Paris Olympics, but Slovenia didn't even qualify for the Olympics 😅😅
Aight I’m taking the troll bait. He carried them in the Tokyo Olympics and was injured for Paris and had a much worse roster. He walked into the NBA being a borderline HOFer.
@JonathanWoodall Again, he's HORRIBLE defensively. Give most NBA players the usage rate that Luka has and they will put up numbers. Sure, the Mavericks lucked up and made it to the Finals this year, but last year Luka couldn't even lead the Mavericks to the play-in tournament let alone the playoffs. Luka isn't a leader and other good players don't wanna play with blud. The ONLY reason why Kyrie is playing with him is because he literally had no other options 😅😅🤣🤣
@bubbastrick5377 Mavericks making it to the Finals was an absolute fluke. See how easily the Celtics disposed of them...that's because no team with a star player as bad defensively as Luka is will ever win a ring 😅😅🤣🤣
RIP Tjarks
Just reread “Does my son know you” the other day. Incredible piece and incredible writer. RIP
He was the best of us ❤️

Ngl the ringer staff was stacked. Bill Simmons has an eye for talent.
Pretty crazy how much talent the ringer had back then. Love this content btw
Stacked the 2017 warriors
draft starts at 50:50
Crazy the amount of talent the ringer had in that room

needed to pull up the bleacher report draft clip of when Terry Rozier called Danny Ainge to see who the Celtics were going to draft
Lol i was not familiar with this

i really like you guys. i’m into the pod. this is a great idea for videos.
HR Head for the Ringer is basically the Sam Presti of Sports Media. Look at all that talent, my God.
Not to mention the hires they've made recently. (I'm a J. Kyle Mann stan)
Luka was obvious back then as the best. It was crazy he didn’t go number 1.
Deandre was an Arizona person, plus Devin was already there, so it makes sense why they passed on him, mavericks were the perfect franchise for him
Jason’s laugh gets me everytime
Baby KOC! And also rip Tjarks.

Bill's wearing my Kobe elites, those were great indoor shoes. The takes are spot on amazing.
34:30 Is this conversation before the Lillard trade? Because it sounds like you are describing the Lillard trade.
KOC as a brutal track record when it comes to picks. I remember when he was going all in for Killian Hayes.😊
I love the slop
I'm a simple man. I see @slightlybiased I click "play"
Bill had an all time take comparing his shirtless son to Mo Bamba going #5 overall
I'm totally into this but I can't hear a damn word that the guys are saying at the 2018 draft. Can you please turn the level of that up?
I'm so happy Trae was good enough to make sure this trade wasn't an utter disaster! Luka's better but Trae is elite too!
Still very very very bad

As a mavs fan, the hawks won the trade cuz they got Cam Reddish.

Doncic not going top 2 is insane...this isn't the melo lebron bosh wade draft lol...
And even then the can’t miss European prospect went second, granted he’s the reason they stopped getting picked high for a decade, but still 🤷🏿♂️😂

So the Simmons podium is:
G -> 2013
S -> 2018
B -> 2014?
i think this is accurate. the sga miss is the only huge blemish.
Skinny zach Randolph..
I guess I’m crazy. But, I’m still in on Fultz, at least as being a contributor to winning in the league
