Sorry, even if that website and the people running it are upstanding and legitimate I'm not giving anyone "limited power of attorney" without meeting them in person and without lots of questions. Who is really going to read all that and understand it without questions that should be asked? That's just ridiculous.
As soon as I heard that, I thought "Incogni must be a scam." You should never have to give a service limited power of attorney outside of legal situations that you are involved in, especially one that's entirely online. It also seems difficult to know exactly what Incogni might do with that limited power of attorney they have over you. They might use it only for their service, but who knows?
Their terms of service is also fairly shady. They need a hell of a lot of info about you, including your full name and current address... and also say they cannot do any legal representation as they are not a legal firm. So they admit to that, but still want Power of Attorney? That's shady as all hell.
I got sent a coupon for Incogni from Nord as part of a partnership and I thought it looked interesting but no way in hell am I giving power of attorney anyone who didn't make me, marry me, or come out of me no matter how limited it is. I understand why they ask for it, legally you are the only one who can request your information be taken out unless you designate a power of attorney. But really, I can't imagine the venn diagram of people who care so much about their personal data not being sold to pay for it and the people who would not mind giving power of attorney to a website is very large.
I looked it up and someone on Reddit tried using a mostly empty inbox to sign up and started getting scam emails AFTER they signed up for Incogni. I wouldn't do it anyway because I'm not the type to get scammed and am not worried about having my personal data out there (I'm careful with passwords and that kind of thing).
I followed one of those "Free" gift card emails down the rabbit hole and back out and never got to the end before I gave up. But one of the best was a "military" guy wanting to buy my car in AZ from Iraq or someplace in the middle east. He was going to pay me over value for the car and I just had to pay $1,000 for shipping to CA. I strung him along for a week promising to pay and then when I said that I will save the money and deliver the car myself he got frustrated. I offered to tell him where he went wrong if he paid me the $1,000 but that was the end of the merriment.

It's their countries that made things so bad that they have to resort to scamming in the first place. The authorities in those countries are even accomplices sometimes. It runs too deep to do anything about it.
The way the scam works: 1) first payment for $6,900 ... 2) the second payment for $10,000 .... 3) the third payment for $12,000 ... and so on. It's the Advanced Fee Fraud Scam. The puppy-scam works in the same way.
THat one is a whole other can of scam. And in someways harder to stop. "Wasting their time" isn't as easy because they consecutively run romance scams on all social media with stolen phones with multiple profiles all at the same time.

I don't trust the sponsors one bit. Sure, you might have the right to demand that your info is being deleted but 1. who says that the people who don't mind selling your personal information care about that, 2. are really going to delete your information and 3. those people most likely aren't even in a country that has that type of law. In the end this and a lot of other "privacy" sponsors feel super fishy anyways.
I have to say that I am extremely lucky to be in Australia. Yes I and other elderly women were scammed by a Nigerian student living in Adelaide. For over a year I thought he was in the Army and needed help! I did not know until SAPOL knocked on my door and informed me! My life fell apart, my husband has Dementia and is in care, but I lost nearly all our savings! He is now in Jail and will be deported upon release, but our money will never come back as it is in Nigeria!
I remember when I was younger someone pretended to be the son of someone my dad knew when he was in the army and tried to scam him out of money stating that the Person left him money in the will but my dad had to send him money for the transfer, luckily my dad didn’t do it but it proves how low people go with scams.

I'm genuinely surprised I don't see a lot of people talking about this, and that the top comments on the video are blindly praising the sponsor. I was on board with Incogni until I heard that I'd need to grant them PoA in order to use their service. That's just rather spooky and I'm shocked Green doesn't see anything suspicious about this. Guess what the name of the guy being arrested was. LOL

The only thing when watching your videos is that TH-cam immediately begins showing me ads for earning free cash by visiting websites designed to trick you. It’s disappointing how far this platform has fallen from grace. Reporting these do nothing, it’s often difficult as the report button isn’t easy to find, and sometimes you can’t even report them at all.
Indeed. It seems that TH-cam (or Google in general) doesn't really supervise which ads get submitted to their platform because they make money with it.

I admire what you do. However, I would have gone a step further and contacted the bank and explained the whole story. I guarantee the Bank would look at the account and shut it down due to money laundering. Yes, the account will be closed and they may have to open another account and it will slow them down.
@@twotone3070 I agree. But Banks make it very difficult to follow the money. I remember one scammer sent me a "check" one day for a car wrap. Thank you for these videos. They really do help many people. I have saved 2 people from falling for scams because of them. Just knowing that checks can seem to clear but then don't and you are left to pay the bank back is something that most people don't realize. Also that gift cards as payment are always a scam is helpful since so many scammers want people to pay with them. Thanks again!
I can’t even finish my own jokes without cracking
But these guys can pick up a calls and talk with a straight face
all they see is money at the end. No morals. Easy to do when this is who they are.
Mr. Green, or the scammers
My mom got a call one evening from a crying girl saying she was in a car accident and needed help, my mom thought it was me and asked what happened. The girl started calling my mother “grandma” and asked if she could wire her money because she was being threatened by the other people who she was in an accident with… that’s the only reason my mom knew it was a scam and not me. It was funny hearing the story but the fact that people call and give these fake sob stories is terrifying. I know someone has fallen for that before.
Pretty disgusting how people can manipulate human emotion.
That being said, always be vigilant
Damn scammers always trying to take advantage of people.
My grandma fell for it. Somehow they scammer had my brother and mother's name and was saying things like I can't tell [mom's name], she'll be mad because I was driving her car and now it's totalled.
Or someone called her by mistake and she really did need money
I have to admit that shirt isn't all that bad. I'm surprised you actually got it though. I'd figure they would either not send it or would use your information after the fact... Of course I'm sure you used one of those limited temp cards.
Granted it's silly I'd probably buy one but if it's in my spam folder I delete it.
Yea, the shirt was alright, also I got the same email but with my name
I think the Accountant should get one of those shirts with his name on it since he couldn't remember his name!
@@nickevershedmusic8927 Same

I didn't think the t shirt ad was a scam. I bought a similar t shirt but it was about the year 1964, the year I was born.
Ben: "Are you Robin or are you Gary?"
Scammer: "Yes, that is what I am telling you"
Plot twist his name was robin gary
Wow. AOL. God remember using that in preschool and kindergarten. Thanks Pleasant Green. Needed to feel old as I'm going to work.
Aol mail still exists. I have a few aol emails for internet purposes.
Actually- your aol mail still works. The mailbox is emptied after so many years but u can reactivate it.
I'm also using AOL mail to this day. And I rarely get scam mails. So either they have a very good spam filter or my cautiousness on the internet seem to be worth it. :}
I wish I found this channel sooner! With COVID-19 many more scammers have been active and unfortunately I got scammed last year. I didn’t realize this was a big issue till I got scammed myself. I admire you for making people aware of current scams.
I had a romance scammer on the hook and they wanted a google play card to make a child’s play station work, and of course because of you, I sent him a grabify link and he was stupid enough to click it, turned out he was in Nigeria too and not a girl either 😂😂😂 when confronted he said he was in uk 🇬🇧 but when I showed him a screenshot, the ran away and I never heard from him / her again! So thanks.
Nicely done Mark!
That's how they use to do
Just blocked that one 2 days ago lol
Omg I wish I knew about that link. Encountered a romance scam myself. Good thing I knew I'm unattractive and knew it sounded too good to be true lol. Just kept sending her/him fake gift card numbers. S/he got so pissed, lmao.
You sure they didn’t have YOU on the hook? Big tits get most guys…
The telephone conversation (if it can be called that) with Lawyer Ben Gary August is one of the funniest scambait exchanges I've ever heard.
I wonder what runs through the mind of these scammers when sending these emails. It’s funny how badly strung up these emails are 😂
/money/ 🤤🤤🤑🤑
It’s mostly to lure in people who don’t have good cognitive abilities and won’t pay attention to the horrible grammar, spelling etc. and just sees the large sum of money. That way they filter out anyone who isn’t gullible enough to fall for the scam and that way they have a higher success chance
(Of course it’s also because of the lack of education that the scammers have)
@@twes003 I’ve never understood that way of thinking abt it. I feel like people with lower congitive ability would ask less questions when the email looks all official and hard to understand
Food on the table is the main reason I think. Where they are Scamming is a way of life which in my opinion is not far off from a gang.
@@Pauldjreadman It is like a gang, as there are often groups of scammers working together. I think some scammers will go as far as to literally murder other scammers or at least physically harm
them badly
I have never witnessed a scammer having an existential crisis...lawyer, logistics company worker, accountant, Gary, Ben, August...
Thanks Ben, great explanation and advice 👍
Your reaction at 11:14 was classic! 😂
The channel that deals with "what if scenarios" I would never even dare to try. Love it.
The way the guy said Bend Over was really funny. Great video. Also, Ronnie is always a plus.
OMG! Good job, I have just went through something like this and caught them myself! Saddens me that some people actually fall for these games and the people behind it have not heart what so ever. And the people(like celebrity's/ famous figures) they use to play their dirty games and ruining their names in course of it all. I am glad I have found you! Thanks again
Sponsors have gotten bland over the years, but Incogni actually seems like a really cool service. I’ll definitely be giving it a try
Literally the first sponsor I think is cool
thought it looked cool but i dont care enough to pay
@@CringePoop tbh, that data just gets outdated at some point over time, so it's useless paying to delete it, that said if there is super sensitive info out there this might actually be useful for limited it's spread as much as possible.
@@LZeugirdor I ain't sure about giving any company PoA personally

Hello Ben, just wanted to tell you that I love all your videos. They make me smile! Sometimes they even make me laugh aloud due to the stupidity of the scammers who think that all Americans are pigeons ripe for the picking, lol. These days you cannot trust anyone. Always go directly to the source, like you say. Never use their phone number to call, or click on their ad. Thanks to you and your videos, I am confident that hundred's, if not thousands of people are wising up to these scammers. Thanks!
Almost everyday I get a stupid email from McAfee that my anti virus is going to expire and to hurry and pay or else I'll get viruses. I also get these stupid scammers trying to log into my email and asking for a log in code. Smh I wish their countries would do something and put them all in jail

It's their countries that made things so bad that they have to resort to scamming in the first place. The authorities in those countries are even accomplices sometimes. It runs too deep to do anything about it.

The conversation with the “accountant” was so cringe. How on earth do these people think they can pull these things off? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
And yet they get away with it. A lot of people fall for it. I know it’s hard to believe.
The way the scam works: 1) first payment for $6,900 ... 2) the second payment for $10,000 .... 3) the third payment for $12,000 ... and so on. It's the Advanced Fee Fraud Scam. The puppy-scam works in the same way.
You should bust dating app scammers, I swear there’s more scammers on dating apps then there are actual people on there
THat one is a whole other can of scam. And in someways harder to stop. "Wasting their time" isn't as easy because they consecutively run romance scams on all social media with stolen phones with multiple profiles all at the same time.
I'm getting addicted to your videos, you're so freaking good....
Low key, the shirt isn’t that bad
The best part is that shirt is real and not a scam.

I almost got scammed today for a work from home job that was posted on indeed, they wanted me to send money for the equipment, which was the first red flag, then the address on the website they gave me turned out to be an empty office building up for rent/lease. The scammer is definitely with a charm to make victim pay because the way he talks to ben Dover is authoritative.

Craziest thing in my spam folder - scammer stating that IT has placed illegal pornography on my PC and in my cloud, and has recorded me. Then IT tried to bribe me to take the porn off of my system and cloud, and, if I didn't pay to IT's bitcoin account, it would be shared with my contacts and local policeS. Love what you do @pleasantgreen - keep it up!
The scammer you were talking too definitely had stage fright (and thank you for teaching me a lot about scams)
Thankyou for taking part in the channel 7 news spotlight show which aired on Sunday 12 June. My partner absolutely laughed hard at Ben Dover name.
This channel has come so far, it’s like watching your kid grow up :’)
Excellent episode, Ben!
I was doing surveys for an online game because I was desperate to get some extra coins, but it turns out they just wasted my time and used my information to spam me scam emails. Never again will I be so naive and dumb. I'm so glad TH-camrs like you are spreading awareness about these scams.
This was a good video! That conversation was to funny and how he couldn’t just say his name. I love watching your videos and always look forward for the next one.
When you have multiple personalities, it's hard to know which one you are today,
As much as I trust you Ben and your sponsors, but I’m not sure I like giving some site power of attorney. This could end up very bad
Was just about to say that. That's super scary
It really depends. Read the TOS and see what kind of decisions they’ll be making for you.
TRUST NO ONE.
Constant vigilance! But seriously I agree. No system is foolproof. The best way to stay clean is to stay off anything you don't personally control.
Lol
I remember when I was younger someone pretended to be the son of someone my dad knew when he was in the army and tried to scam him out of money stating that the Person left him money in the will but my dad had to send him money for the transfer, luckily my dad didn’t do it but it proves how low people go with scams.

My favorite are the SPAM messages that start with "This is from a Trusted Sender" ...

His videos are so calm, relaxing and pleasant to watch. I have binge watched a very large number of his content for the past few days. Even cheekily using a few to help me go to bed. Sort of low background music to help me reach sleep cycle stage without the need of meds or a drink!
I hope you report all these scammers, or at least the bigger ones to the Federal Trade Commission
Hearing that AOL dial-up sound and the "You've got mail" cracked me up :)
Them having POA access is a red flag, no? That's scary. Cool site, and I'd love to delete my spam, but.. granting them POA is NOT okay with me.
It seems a lot of people truly are gullible...
I fell for Costco survey! I got too choose out of several stuff. And I choose a anti wrinkle cream. All I had to do was $ 4.99 s/h. I got a little pump bottle. An week later a other one same size now with a tag of $99.00. I never read the small print. I went strait to my bank. I got the money back, but a week later a other bottle $99.00, so back to the back. This time they told me to call them. And I did, they had no interest in me anymore. They said the paperwork was closed. And the hanged up right a way. So I was stuck with 2 bottles of antiwinklecream. Lessen Learned 😊
I've seen too many crazy things in my spam folder to count. Especially those messages claiming I won a fortune and all I have to do is send money to receive it!!
😂😂😂 love how surprised Mr Dover appeared by the friendliness and cheerfulness of the Gary/Robin
Dude, you never cease to amaze (and amuse) me 😆. Thanks for producing some of the BEST content on the internet!
I once got an email with regards to the old Nigerian “ I need you to get this money out of the country, I emailed the guy back because I wanted to see how far it would go. In my reply I informed the gentleman that my name was gullible. The next day I received an email starting with my “ My dearest Gullible “ I was ROFL till I almost couldn’t breath, I had the fool on the hook for months as I told him I was waiting to receive $100,000 inheritance. Each email was signed “ Solomon Moses which I figured was fake all of a sudden the email stopped. So I figured he had found out the meaning of gullible. About a month later 60 minutes Australia was doing a story, on busting Nigeria’s scammer and him being arrested, that’s when I found out why the emails had stopped.

As a non technical, scam paranoid computer user I view my spam folder as I would a tank of circling sharks. I don't go near it in case I fall in and get eaten.

Great stuff as always! Not sure if you’ve done a video on the fake Facebook accounts pretending to be hot chicks but you should! As soon as you accept them they jump in your inbox asking the same stream of questions. They usually leave plenty of evidence that they are from Nigeria on their account info tho 🤣 I would just be curious what their scam is?
I admire what you do. However, I would have gone a step further and contacted the bank and explained the whole story. I guarantee the Bank would look at the account and shut it down due to money laundering. Yes, the account will be closed and they may have to open another account and it will slow them down.
Would be better if someone followed the money that goes through it.
@@twotone3070 I agree. But Banks make it very difficult to follow the money. I remember one scammer sent me a "check" one day for a car wrap. Of course, they sent more than was required because I was required to forward the money to the car wrap expert. The scammer contacted me and told me to deposit the money into a bank account. I contacted the bank who refused to talk to me about the account and told me they could not share any information with me. I explained to the bank that "HEY, I'm not asking for information, let me tell you some information" and explained everything going on. I know the account was shut down om short order.
Love your videos.
My fav spam email was from someone who demanded $10K or they would send my online porn history to my employer, family and friends. That one made me chuckle!
