First time stumbling across this channel. I love the pretty advanced explanation of the theory behind the licks but in a digestible manner! great video
Im working on Lenny right now and its such a tough song to get the dynamics accurate. The toughest parts for me are definitely the rhythms with hybrid picking. What a brilliant guitarist (you, too Rick!)
@@MRtodd-8287 Honestly I packed it up about 6 months ago. I got really stuck (for a month) on the doublestop part in the middle of the song. I just could not get it down. First half of the song sounds phenomenal though lol.
@@lambofreerun4715 I learnt with tabs as a starting reference. Then when I understand the general scale/key/patterns, I hybridize a little bit and play what feels right.
Great breakdown of this very tasty phrase from SRV! Love to hear some analysis of some stuff from Derek Trucks as well - perhaps a fit for this series. Love his phrasing as well.
Absolutely incredible Rick, love listening to you play the blues and the selection for this lesson was from one of the greats! You are a very inspiring musician in every sense of the word... thank you for sharing your musical knowledge.
I like ricks SRV lessons, he actually plays it slow and works it up to speed unlike other youtubers who play everything at 100% speed and say, “so yeah that’s the lick for ya”
Loved this video def makes yoku think about it in a different way I needed this video thank you so much im pretty good at blues but there are so many different variants of the ways you can play it different string skips and progressions and the more I watch the more I leanr different ways of doing it love it keep them coming
Many thanks Rick. Very good lesson I learned a lot from practicing this phrase. Made it fun to drift off into Hendrix and make up your own stuff with it too. Is that really you getting ripped man?
hey rick i love your videos. i can really take a lot from them, but you honestly go into things about music theory that im not familiar enough with and its stuff i'd like to know. Are there any books i can read that will give me a deeper look into music theory?
What do you think is more important about guitar, technical input or emotional. I've been playing for a year but when I play it feels 1000x better then it sounds. How do I understand this? I want to play different stuff but I always go back to the same sequence of notes simply because the feeling it gives me emotionally. But I don't want this problem to limit my playing so if you have any similar experiences with this I'd be happy to know how to fix this.
2:59 lesson starts
God damn, that tone goes hard on my heart
Hearing your joy on that e flat twelfth fret chord is everything
This is the best tone for the best guitar! ORGASMIC Sound!
First time stumbling across this channel. I love the pretty advanced explanation of the theory behind the licks but in a digestible manner! great video
This is just ❤❤❤❤❤
SRV, one of my favourites and one of the first blues players i listened to religiously
That strat sounds F'n amazing! Classic fender tone! Nice!
Just learned this...Now trying to play it with the dynamics you had mentioned. Thanks for making me a better player!
This is amazing Rick I love you and thank you for saving my life
Of the thousands of videos.... your approach is awesome. Great lesson

Hey mate it’s been a year since this comment. How did you go with the song lenny?

@Ibanezmusic1 how did you learn? was it by ear or did you learn off of tabs?? I'm interested in learning it too, after I've learnt life without you

Nice tone, nice playing, nice guitar, nice lesson!
Awesome tone. Would be cool to see a full performance. That glassy tone is addictive
This is great Rick! Definitely hope to see more Improve Your Phrasing lessons and licks in the future.
I was blown away by your tone, man! Looking forward to this type of lessons. Thanks!
That's one thing I like about the blues on how you can just combine major and minor and add some other stuff in there that just sounds so good.
awesome lesson!
Love this - thank you for sharing. Very much looking forward to this series.
I don't think anyone watches Rick Graham videos to learn SRV..... and I love both.
No disrespect to you Rick. Your my FAV youtube guitarist.
I like ricks SRV lessons, he actually plays it slow and works it up to speed unlike other youtubers who play everything at 100% speed and say, “so yeah that’s the lick for ya”
@@MyBodyWash yeah someone commented to me you can slow any video down on you tube... just select the setting for it.
With your clean tone, I'm realizing how fret buzz isn't entirely undesirable! It's adding a nice smokey flavor that Stevie had too 😋
Brilliant, a favourite song and a great lesson, definitely more my bag thanks :) Looking forwards to the next in the series !!!
Absolutely fantastic rick
The one thing Hendrix could be credited with is putting that pickup selector in the fourth position. Your tone is spot on.
I was actually learning Lenny and what you say is so true. It's all about the dynamics otherwise it sounds nothing like it!
Wow just found this , very cool playing , Love SRV 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Hey Rick! I appreciate the emphasis on phrasing and dynamics. Very important for tasty playing!! Awesome job, keep rockin'!! Peace ...
Rick, these clean tones are amazing...love to listen to this instead of the "GAINS" stuff but it's all good! More of this please! lol ;-)
that strat sounds awesome
i think is a Classic Player 60.
love your touch and feel , sounds great my friend . keep it up👍👍👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Rick, please do more blues type of stuff like this (SRV, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer etc.). You play this part of Lenny phenomenal btw. Cheers
+66vapor66 Thanks man. Part two should be uploaded this evening.

What a cool Guitar. Is that Sonic Blue or Daphne Blue.It looks and sounds fantastic 👏

Love this new series, Rick!

More vids like this please, thanks...
Hey man any update on the phrase for days?? I cant find it on your channel 😢 its a great idea and great video, thanks!
Many thanks Rick. Very good lesson I learned a lot from practicing this phrase. Made it fun to drift off into Hendrix and make up your own stuff with it too. Is that really you getting ripped man?
Simply amazing !
Hey thank you for sharing and help us get better👍
Great lesson Rick - thanks for the super breakdown and explanation!

Amazing
Damn Your Smooth !!! really luv this kind of blues, great lesson bro, keep rockin
Great lesson man! Also loved that tone!! What is your setup? Besides the strat obviously. Cheers!
Your song Inside Out is the perfect example. It's a beautiful blend of emotionality and technical input. How do you balance these aspects?
Hi there Rick, i know this is an old video and you may not reply but love your tone and i would like to know what amp and aettings you were using?
Very nice.. I've been working out a few vids about phrasing .. nice to see how you attack the subject Rick! \m/
beautiful playing as usual, what are the specs of the guitar, model / pickups?
New subscriber! Love the SRV!
Thanks Rick
very tasty, great instruction as always.
does he use his thumb for the root note on that lick? great lesson thank you.
Trevor Rick I do when I play it, it’s just easier and I find my other fingers get in the way if I try to use them
hey rick i love your videos. i can really take a lot from them, but you honestly go into things about music theory that im not familiar enough with and its stuff i'd like to know. Are there any books i can read that will give me a deeper look into music theory?

Fuck this is hard lol. You don't know how good Stevie was till you try and imitate his licks. I WILL GET THIS
Rick when are you gonna give us some more Stevie Ray Vaughan????
what kind of pickups are in the neck ?
it's axe? sound great!
How much spring reverb are you using on this? I'm asking cuz I'm a spring junkie and I love the sound you are using here ❤ so much damn punch!
I wish there was a tab for the jumpy bit at the end because I just cant get it. Great job though
What kind of stratocaster relic is it?
Thanks Great over view, I'll be back.
great!
He knows. I like that
Hey rick got the backing track for Lenny
What kind of strat is that and are you playing through the Axe FX?
is the backing track straight from lenny? or is it your own
Does anyone know specifically which strat model this is?
Hey there!! I've been lf that get that tone...
Anyone can share me a video where he shows It?
Thanks!
Nice toneage. I'm sure you have already said a million times but what pickups are in that strat?
Boss tone.

Yeayaaaa
You say you'll do less shred stuff. So why won't you do more this kind lesson. It's very useful to me!! :D
Oh no Axe!!
