    I think that filming a vlog for books over 500 pages is a great way to hold yourself accountable! Good job

    I don’t mind you being negative or posting vlogs of books you don’t enjoy. Candidly, I just watch for you and for your honest opinion lovely.

    Imight not be super fun for you but for sure it helps us because we don’t have to spend time reading a really crappy book. So thank you.

    Your vlogs are my favourites of your content. To me, it doesn’t matter whether or not you liked the books at the end. I just love watching them.
    So, definitely keep doing them.

    I don't what it is, but I actually enjoy watching people talk about their negative experiences and the bones they have to pick with sucky books. However I do love seeing people slowly getting into a great book and gush about a 5 star read.

    I just started watching all of your reading vlogs in a row and for me I was actually interested in reading Wanderers. So I find it SOOOO helpful to get your opinion on it because now I don't think it's the book for me either. I watched this video while folding my laundry and I found it entertaining and interesting :) thank you

    I love reading vlogs you do on one book:) I also love that you chose this book to do because I was interested in this book but after hearing your opinion on it I'm like ehh...I don't think it's worth my time lol and yes I love watching any reading vlogs that you do even if you don't like the book. It's helpful

    omg your reading blog came at exactly the right time. I'm about 1/4 into this book and I already want to DNF it. As someone that works in a lab, the way the "CDC" is handing the safety precautions and PPE is annoying the heck out of me. I wish the author did at least SOME research about safety protocols.
    And I think vlogs are great no matter how you feel about the book. I don't think it's negativity, it's just your opinion. We can't expect you to love EVERY book!

    I like your reading vogs when they're not always positive. It is very relatable, I am often getting stuck part way through a book and thinking 'ugh what happened? This started so well!'
    Plus I was glad of the warning. It doesn't sound like my sort of thing at all with that stupid ending.
    Stephen King's The Stand was enjoyable throughout and got attached to and loathed various characters all the way through, no matter who was introduced more recently... The only thing is, I can't seem to remember how that one ends... which maybe means the journey was the best part?

    Thanks for sharing! My experience was very similar to yours except that I was already feeling impatient at the 50 page mark. I was starting to wonder if it was me, but I see that even you with your graceful approach to the characters and premise got tired of it. i finished it because I was reading it for a book club, and I wasn't as angry about the ending as I was meh. The sense that I got from what you read in the ending is that it's a bad thing™ that Black Swan was setting itself up as a god, rather than as like some analogy to religion and how great religion is.

    I'm currently reading wanderers (have been for three weeks) and then you posted this vlog, so excellent timing! I do like the book a lot more. I'll admit that the book began to drag a little bit for me too at about page 200-300, but I read 200 pages this weekend and I am really invested.
    I care about Shana (Why do people hate her?), Benji and weirdly enough, also about Pete. I did not mind the rape scene, because I like my stories extreme, and I thought the preacher parts were really boring, so finally something interesting is happening. It was also not totally out of nowhere for me, because it was clear from the start that he was a heavy criminal and bad things were bound to happen.
    I also like my sci-fi to be properly scientifically explained, so I like that about it too!
    I think it is an interesting take on how society handles disasters.
    I hope the last 300 pages bring something good.
    Too bad, Wanders wasn't for you. I hope you find something good soon!

    I thought it was a fascinating look at how all religions are BS and born out of fear and people’s need to give spiritual answers to scientific questions bc that’s easier for them. Religion is the opiate of the masses, if you will. Plus I just enjoyed the writing. I think you missed a huge important aspect of the story by skipping the last chunk of the book but if you weren’t feeling it, then ya gotta DNF. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it, but it’s always fun to see your vlogs! Keep’em coming!

    As someone who says that Benji’s chapters were going over your head because the science was too confusing, I’m not surprised this book didn’t work for you.
    This is at its heart a SciFi and I think you just got mad that it was a SciFi even though you said you wanted a scifi. Also this book is 100% not religious.

    Wow! I'm glad I watched this. Yes I like the truth about books you read, negative or not. It keeps me from wasting my time reading it. I am a very religious person and I hate when authors turn the story toward religion.

    • @TheEliteOne123
      @TheEliteOne123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what do you mean? what if that's the theme of the story but rather than go supernatural they go spiritual?

    • @Thecatladybooknook_PennyD
      @Thecatladybooknook_PennyD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEliteOne123 if the book itself is one based on religion then sure carry that theme through. But a story like this doesn't need to end up with "Mary/Jesus" connotations. It could have been a disease or mad scientist etc to be the cause of what's happening.
      I feel that that going to the religious theme when it's not primarily a religious book, denigrates the real Mary/Jesus/God. Just my opinion.✌

    I waited until I finished reading Wanderers to watch this. I see now that I didn't have to. If you DNF-ed this, you will definitely DNF The Stand by King.
    The whole speech about the microbes in the permafrost was a red herring. I saw it more of a cautionary tale about Artificial Intelligence. Black Swan orchestrated the whole thing so it could be worshiped as a God. Yes, the book was bloated, and should have been about 500 pages, but in for a penny in for a pound.

    I feel like this book could've been edited waaaay the fuck down. 800 pages was just far to ambitious and the suspense went form being a slow burn to kind of a grind at times. I found the story pretty believable though (minus science fiction elements with the AI god). The pathogen and the right-wing extremists were frightening in that they were eerily close to our current issues regarding world health and radicalization of political ideologies. For the life of me though I don't know why that rape scenes was added. It totally came out of nowhere, it didn't match the tone of the book and it was exceedingly graphic just for the sake of shock value. That was a huge fail on the author's part imo.
