I think the whole series was Shawn trying to do right by Henry, even if it did start as him trying to prove Henry wrong. Best relationship in the show.
@@caffeinatednation8885 eh, to an extent but thats kinda how it goes with 20 min sitcom comedies. He still had good character development overall as did others. The movies were pretty good as well. The relationships were developed really well by the end
This is my favourite relationship during the whole series. Not any ship or romance. Only Shawn and Henry slowly accepting their actual love towards each other and managing their feelings...
Oh that was a wonderful edit. Loved the whole series arc of Henry and Shawn getting closer. The focus on Henry's little smile in the courtroom was so wholesome and heartwarming. ❤
OMG the feels!! 😭😭❤ I'm watching the show, I'm still on season 3, and I love it!!... also great work, such a beautiful edit, can't wait to watch all those touching scenes between Shawn and his dad!! ❤
as much as I love how their relationship evolves through the show I hate how Shawn is always made the bad guy for not accepting and holding Henry accountable for the neglect (not to say abuse) he put him through through the years. It was always turned into a joke and never once taken seriously when Shawn stated multiple times how traumatic his childhood was and how affected he still is by the treatment he received. I don't recall Henry ever apologizing to him, not even once- tho im currently rewatching the show (im on s5) so maybe it'll happen in the future and I just forgot about it.
100% agree. All I can say is thank god for FanFiction lmao. I also think the show tended to lean more toward comedy (which Shawn often took the brunt of) than evenly healing relationships. With the apologizing thing, it even extends to Lassie and Jules who hold Shawn to a higher standard.. and yet Shawn forgives *them* quickly and wholeheartedly all the time when they don’t even deserve it. And with Henry it’s always that Shawn becomes more understanding of Henry rather than vice versa, which is a huge Psych pet peeve of mine too. So… I’m with you on all of this. Shawn deserved better 🥺
They never quite motivated sufficiently why Henry was so extremely hostile to Shawn at the beginning. There was something about a motorcycle and of course Shawn never amounting to anything, but Henry said some very cruel things early on.
It wasn't spelled out, but I think it was because of Shawn's hostility towards Henry. From all the flashbacks we can assume that young Shawn did everything he new his father would hate because he blamed him for the divorce and the way he was bringing him up. As the time went on, Shawn understood that all the training, while tedious in childhood, turned out really useful and, in the long run, were for his own benefit. In the pilot Shawn returns from some other town after quite some time. If you remember, in a way, he was estranged even from Gus. The scene where shawn figures out that Henry has nothing to do with the divorce is one of the most moving scenes in the series.
@@TheLighthouse1983It wasn’t just about the divorce, Henry was trying to control Shawn and force him to be a cop even though Shawn clearly says he doesn’t want to. Henry also was cruel to him growing up. In the episode Shawn takes a shot in the dark, Henry locked him in the trunk of his car as a child to see if he could escape and left him there.
Even though they are dysfunctional you can clearly see how much they care about each other especially in episodes like the one where Henry got shot and Shaun went ballistic and the one where Shaun got shot and kidnapped and Henry wouldn't stop trying to find and save him.
Mr. Yin Presents for the hug that’s in the thumbnail, there’s another hug in Henry’s house which I think is from the final episode, if I remember correctly.
Maggie Kelly oof, I’m not sure 😅 it looks like shawn disappointed Henry in that moment and that happens a lot 😂 if I find out which episode I’ll make sure to comment it here!! Sorry 😅
I love how much closer Shawn and his dad got as the series went on.

For a TV comedy the character development on the show was amazing
@@TheOrozs But Shawn was flanderized by series finale.

Yeah I agree. Especially as the abuse continues throughout the show. Henry is constantly berating Shawn and making fun of him when he makes a mistake.
It's so hard to have a parent where you love them to death but you also feel hurt by them.
Yeah I agree. Shawn loves his father so much but Henry has emotionally abused him.
