i haven't worked in the mines at all, just some light labouring jobs in my early 20s but i ended up working for 000 as a operator and
later on as a faults consultant for Jemena (powergrid). my concern is my lack of mining experience but i suppose i could argue the point my roles always had 1 thing in common, I'm the guy who HAD to fix the issues. I was the first and last line for help, organising support etc. so the onus was on me to complete my job correctly an safely as lives can be lost otherwise.

It definitely sounds like an important role. It would be very useful in the emergency response team on a mine site still

Howzit Keithy? I'm looking to get into FIFO, brother did it and he's still in mining although he's got kids and a house, works in consulting now. Hes a geologist as is my sister although she's with govt.
With all that uneccesary info out of the way, I'd like to get into FIFO work although I'm not looking for a few years and a quick cash grab. I'd like to make a career of it. Do you have any advice for someone looking for entry level work in FIFO? I'm 32, in good shape and working in construction. I've worked in management before and had duty of care for staff in high risk environments and in 18 years I've only been injured on the job once. I have my LF forklift ticket and a few others like dozer, a couple of crane tickets although I'm working my way to having a higher weight limit. I'm more than willing to do whatever i need to in order to get my foot in the door. If there's training or education that will take less than 2 years that you can recommend or anything else i can do, please let me know.
Thanks Wayne, i really appreciate you doing these videos and although most didn't like the superannuation video, i did and i was really grateful for the video about being smart with your money. Love the ute mate,
Cheers. You're helping not just people in FIFO but also outside the industry. Where did you learn about all of this? You've got a fair bit of pretty impressive and practical knowledge across a wide range of subjects

G’day mate, thanks for singing out!
You’re keen and you’ve already got great experience, that’s good to hear. You definitely already have an advantage with the forklift and dozer and crane tickets. The crane ticket especially will make you very valuable.
See what you can find on the websites that might have you operating cranes or using any of those skills you’ve already got - they will easily get you in the door!

      Thanks mate, I appreciate it.
I don’t have any videos on wages, but I’m pretty sure there’s a website (not sure if it’s a government website or not) on the awards for the mining industry.
They’re usually categorised into beginner (or entry level), trades, operator or professional. There could be a few more categories, it’s been a while since I browsed the pays.
