Eli, I'm so glad I discovered your videos...you are always so cheery and I'm learning LOADS. This planner is brilliant! Thank you for sharing. Have just been out to buy my seeds today...sitting down with a cuppa to do some planning.
Ok this is a really great idea. I always feel like I’m winging my plans for what to plant when from memory of last year. I am not a spreadsheet user. Something else new to learn to help keep me on track.
Although our hardiness zones and climate differ, I really appreciate your videos. They are so informative! Also, I really enjoy your cheerfulness and I get a giggle at your humor. Thank you for making these videos and sharing your knowledge and experiences. You’re a good teacher and inspiring gardener!
Awww thank you Teresa. I think there is always something ti take from gardeners in different places. Even if we can't do what they are doing at the same time, still lots of good sharing
Very useful. As a new allotment holder and new gardener, I am struggling with understanding loads of things but your approach is helpful. As a single chap, I don't need the volume of veg and I also want to use my allotment as a relaxing outdoor space so I intend to have more flowers than I originally intended. As a newby, I do wish seed packets would show much room the mature plant takes up 🙂
I usually go hunting around on seed company websites to put together the full picture. Between them you can get all the info. It’s one of those jobs to do on mass with a cuppa and a biscuit 😁
Great idea with the spreadsheet! I just did some basics in a notepad but I think I’ll make a spreadsheet too. Just thinking ahead, I’ll use text as well as the colours because then it’ll allow me to sort and filter by month. I can see you’re splitting it by weeks really rather than month, but I think I prefer the month “at a glance” to see what I need to be doing.
Wow! I love how you arranged EVERYTHING on this spreadsheet! Thank you so much for sharing this - this will be so much fun to play with!!! (comment edited for a typo)
Absolutely brilliant, and exactly what I needed. I had bought a spreadsheet from Etsy, but have been a bit put off by the amount of info needed about dates and germination times. Yours is precise enough to be useful without being overwhelming, and as you say, once you have gone through a year with a plan like this amending as you go to when things do actually start producing and for how long, it will help massively in planning for the following year. Thank you so much for generously sharing your spreadsheet Eli, and for explaining it so clearly, too!
Saved a copy of your planner so that we can start off the year organised, spent the last two hours making it our own, always wanted one but found them to be complicated and cumbersome, yours is exactly what we needed. Many many thanks Eli
Thank you, this is fabulous and much more organised than my current planning method! No matter how much I plan I still always end up with more than I need because my seedlings sometimes disappear overnight from slugs and snails. It’s early summer now and I have so many spares to try to cram in somewhere 😄
Thank you such a great video. I was thinking about this last week and scratching my head about it. Just need to learn how to use a spreadsheet! I will need to change the colours thou being colourblind 🤣
I succession sow onions from seed in early spring, starts in May and every month through August because they over winter well. I also plant cucumber and zucchini seeds directly in spring, then again 4 weeks later for an extended harvest season. Herbs I was able to succession sow three times over the season with the last harvest in autumn
Thanks for the 'kick up the rear' to get me started. I'm in a completely new garden this year and s/b doing this NOW. 2022 is only a month away and I'll be planting mid-January latest. Time to plan. Good video.
By far the best planning video I’ve seen - thank you! I did my spreadsheet the same (by some fluke) but I didn’t have the beds by month. I added a filter to the fields at the top and so you can pick ‘bed 1’ and see what crops are in just that bed. I really like the line for each succession, which I hadn’t thought of. I’ll definitely be adding that in. Thanks again! 💚🌱
Thank you so much for sharing this. We built our Rhino greenhouse a few weeks ago and I’m planning on growing veg for the first time next year. I’ve gone overboard and ordered a whole load of seeds, but I’m now been feeling overwhelmed as to how to approach things. Eli to the rescue!!!

Man, gotta watch this video many more times, and of course go through the steps. This is just what I needed at this moment, and this amazing video randomly appeared. 😁
Thank you SO much for this! I finally managed to crack successional sowing of French Beans last year but failed on the carrots, but next year am determined to nail it. Your spreadsheet is brilliant and I think will be such a help - it's so helpful to be able to visualise what's going to be hopefully happening in each of the beds. Thank you! Claire x
I've just come across this video from 2 years ago very useful I luv a spread sheet I have had planners but same too complicated for me although it's not hard for me to get confused but thus is a great video ❤

Just downloaded your template. I’m not sure how many things I’ll plant in succession, but this will be very helpful with planning - thank you! Love following you and gardener Scott this year!
This is single most helpful video I've seen in the past year. Right time and just up my alley. (Lots of other videos great too but this is exactly as needed for this moment and using a spreadsheet that works WITH my audhd). I"m so pleased. Thanks.
Hi Eli, I was working on my garden plan, took a break and watched this video. Perfect timing. Thanks for the spread sheet and tip Re a beefsteak tomato. The Mamade sounds just what I want. Looking for seeds, I discovered a super Italian Canadian seed store near where I grew up with many Italians. Of course I bought the tomato, and many lovely Italian seeds.
Awesome glad it was helpful! I do love the marmande... our go to for sandwiches and burgers :D That was a handy find, lots of proper italian tomatoes is a treat :D
Thank you so much for the video, what a brilliant idea using the spreadsheet, I was planning to do succession planting to help with continuous supply of my produce, take care ❤
Just found your site think your fab thanks for spreadsheet and all your advice love your personality your so informative and being Scottish helps as your relatable and funny wish my garden was like your but I'm working on it ❤ thank you for doing what your doing I'm inspired
Hi Eli, I think the spreadsheet disappeared. I can't see your video description either. Shame was looking forward to using it. Great idea for colour coding and succession planting. Other spreadsheets don't show succession planting in this way. Love it.
Joyce, I was able to get it just a minute ago. It's under the description of the video. Click on "show more". It's the first link you see. I hope you find it.
@@eliandkate I have just (almost finished) got a 2nd hand greenhouse up and will build 2/4 raised beds out of pallet wood (for now as budget allows). I’ve got plans to grow tomatoes, peppers, carrots, beans and some peas. I actually sowed some peas in my front garden for fun and they seem to be sprouting- will these grow would you think? I got so excited when the seeds arrived lol
Oh sounds excellent. Not sure Bout your peas as obviously it depends on you climate, garden position and variety... but quite often folk sow hardier varieties to give them an earlier start in spring, so fingers crossed 🤞
Soooo helpful for you to show how you do it while talking out loud giving us your thought process. Many thanks! I just got a greenhouse and am trying to figure out how to get organized. For some reason I thought I saw u use a cold frame in another video. Are you still going to do that over the winter for any crops?
I don't actually have a cold frame so I don't think it's me you've seen. I use propagators a bit like a cold frame, mostly in spring but got some in the greenhouse just now protecting the smaller seedlings.
What a fantastic Fantastic idea and video, thank you so much. I have a strong cup of fresh coffee , your template and my seeds. 1) I love it that you have narrowed your varieties down, I am still getting there. 2) Having a brain f4rt - what are your bed sizes (the 3 in your plan)? I have it written down somewhere but can't find it. 3) I have never had a glut of anything, I hope I will have the problem in 2022. Thank you again for this spreadsheet and idea.
I'm going back and watching some older video's of yours while I sperate the seeds I saved from last fall. Mostly on garden planing as thats my main focus right now. Succession planting hasnt been my strong point, but last year I did it pretty well with cucumbers and carrots. My wife loves cucumbers, but so do cucumber beetles. By the way, love the accent.
The succession planning worked amazingly well, I had soooo much in the way of harvests last year… but… it took the fun right out of gardening. It just put so much pressure on my
Normally I just take my seeds into the greenhouse and sow as and when I get a moment! This year I am going to try to be organised too. Thankyou... for making me more organised lol. Do you grow any flowers in your garden or are you just a veg grower? This year im sort of feeling I want to try some beautiful flowers, would be good to see some vids on flowers too. Love watching your happy vids.
Hey Mandy, that's awesome that you found the plan helpful. I'm hoping this year is going to be a good one for loads of us. I do actually grow loads of flowers. Our garden is very much a proper garden with flowers, fruit, veg and seating areas for us. If you click on the playlist tab at the top of the channel, then go look at our monthly garden tours and updates.. you'll get to see loads more of our adventures including some of the flowers we grow. We'll actually be starting on lots of our flower seeds in March
Love this vid eli, super helpful, il be attempting to grow along next year. 🙌 just waiting to get my new beds put in, I also need to make a plan of those too 😅
Well get ready... I'm going to start on Sunday but the whole point is that the date doesn't matter... you sow when it suits but I will do videos to help you see what to expect 😉
What a great video. I was thinking of how best to do this and here you are - done! Thanks for sharing. Have you bubble wrapped the greenhouse or was that last year? I know you were unsure if you were going to bother again and I'm not sure myself as I don't have heating and not much growing.
Brilliant planner , just a quick question where's best to buy seed from I'm currently just picking up the odd pack for my local B&M , think it time to invest in better quality seed or are they all the same ?
To be honest it's really a personal decision. I use Mr Fothergills, Premiere Seeds, and Real seeds but my decision is usually just about who has what I want. I've never been disappointed by any of those guys.
This is so helpful thank-you! I struggle to understand how much space I have, in terms of planning how many plants I can plant in a bed or a pot? and what the yields are likely to be from 1 plant. Do you have any tips or resources that can help?
Glad it was helpful! Resource wise I already recommend checking out the gardening societies in your area. For instance, the RHS in England have a really great website with lots of info, you can search by plant, plant type etc: www.rhs.org.uk/ I do say though that remember that not all sources of information are equal, so always check how reliable a source is, for instance, people on social media (and that includes youtube) are not an official source so their info is generally their opinion and hasn't gone through a rigorous review process before being shared, whereas information from an official source like the RHS has. And yes, I include anything I say in a video in that - not a rigorous source category 😂
Love this! So useful, thank you. Have you done*/any plans for a garden journal video... I just get myself in a pickle of over prep and what to record, would love your take. Thanks. *apologies if I've missed it...!
I'm actually working on that one right now. Videos take a few weeks to prep and plan but I'm in the final stages... nows the time to through thoughts and ideas my way :D
Love this video - thank you. How big are your raised beds if you don’t mind me asking. I’ve been growing in tubs but was thinking about trying a couple of raised beds for next year.
Ha ha ha so many of you have asked today. If you check out the description to any video, there is a link to a webpage where we've out details and links for all the bits and pieces we use 😀
Great video as always 🙌 I have a question about buying seeds. Is there a difference between picking up seeds in the supermarket vs a garden centre. Know there’s a cost difference but is the quality better? Is there somewhere you like to buy your seeds from?
To be honest no. Where you buy them doesn't make a huge amount of difference on things provided they are within the recommended sowing date (the older the seeds the less viable they become). Local to us, most garden centres and supermarkets sell the seeds from the same big suppliers just that the supermarket stocks a smaller range of varieties. I tend to go direct to the suppliers (online) because I'm usually looking for a particular variety, so shop around to see who sells it and the price. You also find some suppliers have lovely packaging and others just ship them to you in a foil packet with no fancy pictures. You will be cheaper for th no fancy pictures seeds, butnits the same seeds. The first who sell the seeds are very rarely the people who grew the plants and harvested the seeds, they are just resellers. So don't get caught up on brand names. Think more about what varieties you want and price. I tend to use Premiere Seeds Direct, Mr Fothergills and Real Seeds, just depending on who has what in stock.
The difference is choice. I just found a. Shop online with amazing Italian veggie seeds, including ones that grow Borlotti beans. Next year I will hopefully have home grown veg and dry beans to cook with.
Monthly planting??? I am not sure I understand? I have been doing it all at once each season and end up totally exhausted. Can you do a video on the monthly cycle and what Seeds you would be doing? Would love to know how to spread out the work. 🙏🙏🙏
The monthly thing was just me working out successional sowing and what I would be doing each month so that I always had veg growing and veg ready to harvest all year. There’s lots of videos on it over the course of last year, grab a cuppa, relax and binge on a few 😍
@@eliandkate I'll be waiting with glee. I already mentioned above but definitely want to thank again. This video (and I"m looking forward to 2023 spreadsheet) is prefect. For my audhd it fits me and I adore spreadsheets. Thank you!!!
yup but it might be worth noting that I'm not one of those people who collect 40 different varieties of things, so I have one packet of peas of which ever variety I've chosen to grow or one variety of beans... I imagine if you had say 10, then you'd need to split them across different inner boxes
So you can't edit mine at all. You have to save a copy / duplicate for yourself and work on that in your own Google drive. Works in ios, windows etc. Apps or on computer From the google help pages: To copy a sheet within a spreadsheet: Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app. On the sheet tab, tap the Down arrow Down arrow. Tap Duplicate. A duplicate sheet will appear in a new tab next to the original sheet. By the way, 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦While I’m Canadian, I’ve spent time with family and friends in Scotland, Gatehouse of Fleet and Limekilns, Fife.
Awesome glad it was helpful! I do love the marmande... our go to for sandwiches and burgers :D
That was a handy find, lots of proper italian tomatoes is a treat :D
Thank you so much for the video, what a brilliant idea using the spreadsheet, I was planning to do succession planting to help with continuous supply of my produce, take care ❤
Sounds like we are on the same adventure then 😀
Just found your site think your fab thanks for spreadsheet and all your advice love your personality your so informative and being Scottish helps as your relatable and funny wish my garden was like your but I'm working on it ❤ thank you for doing what your doing I'm inspired
That’s awesome Shirley, glad our daft channel is helpful😀😀😀
Enjoyed the video informative looking forward to more BA94 Antrim Ireland
Glad you enjoyed it William. I'll keep you guys up to date on all the goings on
New here, love your approach and energy, thanks for the spreadsheet!
Awesome to have you Caroline! 😀😀😀
😀 yeah still there Joyce. Click show more and you'll get the full description. Let me know how you get on 😀
Thanks Lila 😊
Excellent laptop cover!
😂😂😂😂
Very organised Eli and really sensible advice.
😀😀😀😀
Strawberry jam! Can be gifted later in the year.
Let's hope so
This is my first year growing, I found this really helpful 🙌🏻
I'm so glad!
The first year is so exciting :D
SO what are you thinking of growing and how?
😂😂🤣😂🤣 thank you Josan and it's lovely to have you join us here 😊
I'm going back and watching some older video's of yours while I sperate the seeds I saved from last fall.
It just put so much pressure on my
Magnificent! Thank you for sharing!👏
Glad you've found it helpful 😀
Thank for the spreadsheet.
No probs 👌
Love this vid eli, super helpful, il be attempting to grow along next year. 🙌 just waiting to get my new beds put in, I also need to make a plan of those too 😅
Well get ready... I'm going to start on Sunday but the whole point is that the date doesn't matter... you sow when it suits but I will do videos to help you see what to expect 😉
Very informative, I need to get planning next season
Go on... you can totally do this!😀😀😀😀
Love this idea!
So glad! 😀
Thanks so much for giving us your spreadsheet! If you guys are ever down Gourock way pop round we'd love to meet ya....
Awww glad we could help 😀
Very neat!
😀😃😀😃😀
Thank you. I have been working on a similar spreadsheet but I like yours better - so I'm going to use it. ☺
Go mad…. You’ll be taking over the world next
Thank you. That was so helpful!
Great video thank you so much :D
Hope it helps you feel on top of things 😀
@@eliandkate It will thanks buddy :D
What a great video. I was thinking of how best to do this and here you are - done! Thanks for sharing. Have you bubble wrapped the greenhouse or was that last year? I know you were unsure if you were going to bother again and I'm not sure myself as I don't have heating and not much growing.
Did it last year and there are a few videos if you are interested. Not bothered this year as I don't think I grow enough in there to justify it
This was so helpful! TY!
Oh I'm so glad KS 😊
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Hope it makes a difference for you Kari Ann
Brilliant planner , just a quick question where's best to buy seed from I'm currently just picking up the odd pack for my local B&M , think it time to invest in better quality seed or are they all the same ?
To be honest it's really a personal decision. I use Mr Fothergills, Premiere Seeds, and Real seeds but my decision is usually just about who has what I want.
I've never been disappointed by any of those guys.
Bizarrely, I am also dyslexic and plan my veg growing the exact way.
👍👍👍
Brilliant,
Hope it helps you get sorted 😀
Thank again,. Yes ♥️♥️♥️🇩🇰✌️
For instance, the RHS in England have a really great website with lots of info, you can search by plant, plant type etc: www.rhs.org.uk/
I do say though that remember that not all sources of information are equal, so always check how reliable a source is, for instance, people on social media (and that includes youtube) are not an official source so their info is generally their opinion and hasn't gone through a rigorous review process before being shared, whereas information from an official source like the RHS has.
@@eliandkate Brilliant, thanks. I'll look forward to it :)
Love this video - thank you. How big are your raised beds if you don’t mind me asking.
I’ve been growing in tubs but was thinking about trying a couple of raised beds for next year.
Very roughly about 2m by 1m. They ate basically just big tubs
OMG this is Awesome!!!’
Fingers crossed it helps
This is really helpful, thank you. Where did you get that seed organiser from? Need one of them!
Ha ha ha so many of you have asked today. If you check out the description to any video, there is a link to a webpage where we've out details and links for all the bits and pieces we use 😀
@@eliandkate thank you, I’ll get myself one ordered. Keep up the good work. Loving the spreadsheet
Glad it was helpful. Can't believe it took me so long to do it
Great video as always 🙌
I have a question about buying seeds.
@@eliandkate ❤️
Have you got one for 2023 ???
I do (almost)
There are a few things that I can’t share yet so it’s on hold for a few weeks 😂
You’ll find out more soon
@@eliandkate I'll be waiting with glee. I already mentioned above but definitely want to thank again. This video (and I"m looking forward to 2023 spreadsheet) is prefect. For my audhd it fits me and I adore spreadsheets. Thank you!!!
Do your pea and bean seeds fit in the photo box?
yup
but it might be worth noting that I'm not one of those people who collect 40 different varieties of things, so I have one packet of peas of which ever variety I've chosen to grow or one variety of beans... I imagine if you had say 10, then you'd need to split them across different inner boxes
@@eliandkate ah yes sadly I am that kind of person only because I get seduced by the pictures and reduced stickers haha
Only problem I have is when I open the spreadsheet on my iPad it doesn’t give me any options to update or even save?
You need to make a copy/duplicate for yourself Bryan 😀
@@eliandkate
Ok, so I can’t copy and just update yours on iOS?
So you can't edit mine at all. You have to save a copy / duplicate for yourself and work on that in your own Google drive. Works in ios, windows etc. Apps or on computer
From the google help pages: To copy a sheet within a spreadsheet:
Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
On the sheet tab, tap the Down arrow Down arrow.
Tap Duplicate. A duplicate sheet will appear in a new tab next to the original sheet. It's named "Copy of Sheet."

@@eliandkate ok, thanks for that, keep up the good work, am working my way through your back catalogue and liking & sharing 👍
Oh thank you Bryan. Good luck with getting your plan going
This is so helpful! Thank you!!
Oh brilliant 😁 can't wait to hear how you get on
