    very well-done and nice job on that balance staff! you're really progressing in this hobby far beyond what most are able to do. I bet you'll be successful with the lathe and that will propel you even further. as for the repairs, my heart sunk for you when you had to take it all apart again to find that worn eccentric. I've been there before and know how that feels. Restoring this watch for your son is such a beautiful gesture. While he might not fully realize its significance now, I believe that one day he’ll treasure this watch deeply-and perhaps even pass it down to future generations. I’d suggest saving this video on a card to keep with the watch, just in case anything ever happens with TH-cam. That way, the story behind it will always be there, a reminder of the love and care you put into creating something so meaningful.

      Thanks Chris for such a thoughtful word. Honestly, to spare the viewers, I actually took the chrono apart a second time to close ANOTHER bushing for a different eccentric. So yes, talk about heart sinking! 😂
      That's a great idea, I'll save this video on a memory card, or thumb drive. Thanks again for your support.

    What a lovely video, and such a moving story. I’m sure your son will cherish that watch, and I hope one day he comes across this video which deepens his appreciation for it.

      Hi Adam, I appreciate you stopping by! Thanks for the kind thoughts. Yes, when I gave the watch to him, it put a smile on his face. He thought the Chrono was so cool! He's only worn it once or twice, but I sincerely hope his appreciation for it will deepen as he goes through life.

    Always love watching your videos. The relaxing sound of your voice is easy on the ears. The photography is always very well done. I would have liked to have done something similar for my Son. Unfortunately he was lost along with 11 of his Marines in a training accident 01/14/2016. Great video and message!

    Hi Jimmy! What a fantastic video. Well done as always! You are inspiring me to try my first wrist watch restoration. It's only been pocket watches up to this point. I'm nowhere near ready to try a chronograph though!! I really love what you did with the inscription and I'm going to steal the idea from you for my twin boys someday.

    • @WatchRestorationCottage
      @WatchRestorationCottage  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Mark, I really appreciate your support and stopping in to say hi. It's not as bad as it looks, but you'll know what I mean here... I actually had to leave a lot of footage out to spare TH-cam viewers from many agonizing minutes/hours of adjusting the chronograph. I had to disassemble the chronograph - AFTER IT WAS FULLY ASEEMBLED - twice! The first time I showed in the video, the second time was for a different worn bushing that needed to be closed. Yes, it's been quite a journey with the eldest. It was very fitting that the thumbnail was titled, "This Looks Bad," since we shared similar feelings during some of the struggles.
      You have solid technique in your videos - a wristwatch is definitely in your future. And I'm sure your sons would appreciate the gift, especially when they're older. Much love Mark.

    First of all - Fantanstic video and awesome work all around. One thing I really would wish for and I know it's nearly impossible is to see a dial restoration. While I know how fragile these are and nearly all restoration methods are extremely risky at best, still seeing such nice watch with like new dial would've made a huge difference. Again, I know I am asking for nearly impossible.
    Please keep these coming.

      Hi thanks for stopping by and saying hi. Yes, dials are just too tough to do. There's a channel, Kirk Rich Dial Restoration, something like that... He shows how the process is done. If this dial were in better condition, I would have attempted re-plating the case. Appreciate your support!

    I'm a Uni student too, in Italy being italian so it's a little different here how it works but still it can be really hard and have some setbacks but nothing that can't be overcome, anyway that's a beautiful gift I hope your son likes it (it's always useful to have a watch during tests) tho if he watches this video the surprise in the case would be a little spoiled 😅
