You have no idea how many years I hve gone with a broken 6cd changer and all 6 cd’s stuck inside my 2003 mustang. Everyone from so called mustang experts to car audio shops told me there’s no way to remove it or the cd’s without destroying the unit in the process. Smdh. Thank God for youtube!

Thanks for this instructional! Took me a bit of time and patience (I ended up buying official “removal tools”) but now I’m smarter about my ‘03 Ford Escape’s multi-cd changer and rescued my cds from it. After pulling out the perpetrator (one CD actually broke inside the mechanism) I put it all back together and is good as new and plays/changes/ejects just fine! 😁

I think your video was very informative and I could hear everything you said if I listened. To hell with all the people who had something negative to say about it.

There is a $6 tool that is sold at Walmart that makes this painless. Don’t waste your time with coat hangars.

Thank you - MUCH appreciated! You really seem to know what you are doing. I have a 2007 Ford Escape with a radio identical to the one in this video, and three of four speaker areas in the car (which had been working great) suddenly dropped off to nothing over the past few days. Only the front speaker on the driver's side is working - and sound has become poor on that one. Too much coincidence 3 locations would stop at the same time (surely not the speakers themselves, so must be main wiring somehow?) Any clues what the problem might be? Thanks again, Sir!

Ok I just did this removal since now my cds are stuck, but man it was a pain in the ass. You have something wrong in the video, where you say you need to get the wires over the top of the springs. Except that is impossible, as the top of the springs is the latch that holds it into the frame, you actually want to go in the holes on the springs, there's little ramps that you press down on to get the latch to come out. But of course not pushed in too far, as you are unable to get the springs to go down into their respective holes since those holes have an edge that will block the wire from pressing enough on the spring. I got mine out with none of the wires over the top of the spring

The laser gets weak over time and has to be replaced. Sometimes you can order them from the company.

Another thing that happens is that dust interferes with the laser beam. If you take the unit out you can use compressed air.

for some reason the little metal actuator that opens and closes the door is extended so every time i reinstall the faceplate the door opens. i reinstalled the unit hoping that the little arm would retract but i still got a cd error. and ideas why that would be?

One of the problems with these things is that the little gears get damaged.

I am so sorry to write a negative comment. I really need help and you speak as if talking to yourself. You flipped the changer so quickly, I couldn't identify the screws you were referring to. Six years ago, I managed to open the case WITHOUT buying add'l tools; but, older now, I don't remember which tools.
The frustration is so great, that I called Best Buy. They only sell 1-disc player/radios. Wish you would re-do this with the intention to TEACH because, you do know what you are doing.
      Respectfully submitted

Why did you bother to talk at all? It's almost like you're mumbling to yourself. Can't understand what you're saying but thanks for the video?
