To prevent the player walking underwater couldnt you also make a trigger at the bottom that pushes the player up still allowing them to swim?
i cant see how that wouldnt work. Seems like a good idea
completely new to hammer2 and this helped me create a water pool on my first day! thanks very much !
Put a thin layer of Trigger_Push entity at the bottom of the water also prevents you from trapping underwater

for sure but i need to know what people want to know. I am quite new myself so i am focusing on things that are very common but not super complex
@@ReDMooNTVV something even as simple as how to begin mapping like which entity to use and what you need to do to load into your map could be helpful
@@klzrx hmm i was avoiding that because there are already a million tutorials talking about it and i would just be repeating it for the 1000001th time. But i may consider making a video showing the basic vital things like how to make Z toggle free camera and stuff about compiling to save time

The post processing trick is nice, but it does not work when the water is shallow enough that you can crouch to get your head under the water surface... I don't understand how Valve can make such a huge oversight to not include proper functionality for water...
it wont work with the post process. I also do not understand how something like this isnt in the base game
how to make the water texture appear when you go under it? it only shows black when i am under a water texture
i show it in the video. You need to use a post processing volume
@@ReDMooNTVV no not like that, the block used for the water is like only a few units thick, not the entire space.
When i do that, the texture below the brush is black and norhing else. Is there any work around other than importing my own textures?
so it is black under the water block? this shouldnt happen. Maybe you didnt turn it into a func_water? also i do not get notifications on replies somehow. Maybe you need to @me
@@ReDMooNTVV i tried many things but the built in water shaders just dont seem to work properly in this case. i added my own textures instead.

hey how can i change the color of the water?
you need to open the water texture in the material editor (from the drop down menu, top right, where you originially open hammer)
however, i think that you cannot edit materials from valve maps
