If played around quite a fair lot with custom chess positions. The deciding factor on whether or not white has a winning advantage from the start or not tends to be if white has the chance to capture a black piece. Even if not used, that is the deciding factor here I believe.
I've played a game kinda like this. Knightmare Chess is basically Chess with cards that make crazy changes to the game that you draw into a hand. Gives second king, adds another win condition, resurrects captured pieces, etc.... Well, one of them is called Earthquake and it rotates the board 90 degrees in either direction. I was white and played it before my first turn.
Idk if its been made, but i wanna see a match of knights vs bishops, so one side has 4 knights no bishops, and vice versa for the other. Maybe 2 matches, one where white has knights, and another where black has knights
The side with the bishops wins regardless of colour. It's just too much of an advantage, even for closed spaces when you've got 4 bishops they cover way too much area of the board. The biggest advantage a horse has over the bishop is the fact that the bishop is restrained to one colour, but with 4 bishops that disadvantage is completely null. You can trade 2 bishops and still be capable of controlling both colours.
@@Obi-WanKannabis fair enough, what about if you were to just remove the bishops/knights of each color (same idea, but lower quantity) so kinda like balanced/odds type deal? would bishops still hold as dominate an advantage you think?
@@jjrulez1596 That is pretty fair. I just ran 2 games. If the bishops are with white then the advantage is around +1 but the game ended up in a draw anyway. If the bishops are with black then black has a very slight advantage but the game ended in a draw, so it's very clsoe to fair.
In a position like this where all pawns can promote or they have a bunch of the same pieces the white pieces will always win when 2 stockfishes are playing
@@teambellavsteamalice I'm sure there are. None of them will be any good though. Stockfish has long overcome the idea of giving specific value to individual pieces.
At 1:05, I don't see a reason not to sacrifice the white bishop for that black pawn at b3. You KNOW it's going to queen if you don't, and that's what happened in this game.
hey how about chess with fair turns. A fair turn strategy follows the sequence WBBWBWWBBWWBWBBW... A player can never play three times in a row, but they can play twice in a row. I've always wondered if this would remove whites advantage.
I feel like with 2 moves in a row there might be waay to many tactics that hang the king so that it might probably become a solved game really quick. like any check no matter how stupid it would be would be a win if it was the first in a sequence. So even if it is not solved it might become heavily favoured towards one side because you have to defend against silly threats that would be mate in some weird way and thus one player armors up their king whilst the other can't do it properly. But hey, my source is also just that I though about it for a while and so I am pretty interested so if you wanna try that out via some chess simulator that allows it be there for it. It is also just a really cool concept. But I feel like there'd be better ways to balance white vs black in the game like restricting white from castling or only allowing them to do the move 2 squares with a pawn on the third turn.
@@freaki0734 there is a Variant called Monster chess. White get's to move twice in a row. But just has the 4 Central pawns and his King. While black has the complete set of pieces. Turns Out White has a slight advantage
@@mauer1 holy shit moving twice is that strong? like I would have thought it if white had a single long ranged piece. But black has to just take out 4 pawns to win. It's not like pawns can take advantage nearly as hard as other pieces
How does a pawn on the first rank move, according to Stockfish? 1 square? 1 or 2? Annoyingly, this video does not answer the question as both pawns are taken before they can move.

I mean if you can get away with it…
This is pretty nice, but I think that white has the advantage, or maybe not, I don't know
Yes, I think you're right. It is a big advantage that white can promote to Queen on the first move.
They can make a queen and take B8 to win a rook immediatly
@@warzone822 no, black would be a queen up

@@Luaporleafcutterant you have to checkmate them both separately.
@@nategar412 but if you fork both you can just take one of them right?

Chess but the pawn promote line is right behind them and they only can move backwards.
