I started soldering at 9 years old. That was 62 years a go. Anyway, I built this project of yours and when I plugged in the power
(Teensy only), the chip got so hot that I burnt my finger. emailed PRJC, and with (NO HASSLE) I have a replacement for free!
So Kudo's to you and PRJC ! FYI- Nothing had been soldered to the board, just plugged in the power.

It's a shame project support for this and updates seem to have stopped and the site seems to have been abandoned by the creator. It's really a cool project with a lot of good lessons for beginners, and it's done in a professional, succinct, and clear way with the inclusion of the YT videos. Really, a bummer.

    Hi, Great video.
In this synthesizer does the teensy actually playing sound faster to accomplish the pitch change effect, I mean the audio plays faster with higher pitch notes? If yes doesn't it actually affect the playing of keyboard?
Also is this project compatible with teensy 4.0?

Itching to build some kind of noise making box but I currently have no midi hardware, If I build this as a stand alone unit, could I control it with a simple sequencer like the Arduino 8 step one from 'look mum no computer' ?

Dave, I would suggest you solder opposite corners first. Then reheat those pads.
That way; it will sit flat! Doing all for corners WON'T give you a flat landing.

excelent tutorial! Thanks so much! It seems that 4 years later, thou, teensy developed new versions, currently 4.0. Will this tutorial work with this new version, I mean, especially for the code part... Also, do I need a better Audio board for teensy 4.0? I'm already looking for the parts to buy! Thanks again for this!! 🎹🔧

This code worked on my Teensy 4.0 with the Audio shield made SPECIFICALLY for the 4.0. The Pinouts are different between 3.x and 4.x, so going forward with knobs & buttons may need some "review" before wiring that stuff up.

Just started with building small DIY synths with the AS3340 VCO, AS3320 VCF, V2164 VCA etc.. voltage controlled. But last week I found your channel and it's really great! I just ordered the components to build the Arduino based synth, and now I'm seeing the TEENSY video's. Pfff.... I have to order again. ;) Again, great video's, very clear explanation about all the details. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. One question, it seems that the TEENSY has a lot more capabilities for synthesis as an Arduino. Or is it just the libraries and the web interface for building blocks to generate the code what makes the difference?

    • @NotesAndVolts
      @NotesAndVolts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Mark! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel. The Teensy is far more powerful than the Arduino Uno so it is capable of real DSP which is very cool.

ah man, i got my board, soldering it together and downloaded the teensy installer with no luck. I get to this step: 'From the File name, choose "Open HEX File" and open blink_fast.hex, which you downloaded using the link at the top of this page. You can also open the file using the toolbar button, or using drag-and-drop onto the upper portion of the window. When the file is opened, the filename and percentage usage of the Teensy's memory are shown. Select "Program" from the "Operations" menu, or click the Program button on the tool bar. The download should be very quick, perhaps too fast to see a tiny progress bar appear, but you should see the "Download Complete" message.' Sadly, none of this works. everything is greyed out and i can't select 'program' or 'operation'. I sure wish this installation would be an easier process. Can someone please help me?

Hey gurp. Do you have the Adruino software installed? Follow the steps here: www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_download.html
Also, select "All" when it asks which libraries you want to install.

@@NotesAndVoltsThanks for the prompt response, Dave. Without hyperbole, this is the most exciting tutorial I have seen on the tube, man.
I am trying again tonight. I am a total noob, and this might not be the best project to try right out of the gate, lol.
