My New Fishing Getaway

The Pelican Getaway seemed mediocre at first glance, until I tried it. Stable, lightweight, fast and maneuverable, this kayak, which I'm told is NOT meant for fishing, quickly became one of my favorite vessels Pelican has to offer. Obviously, it was designed to eventually be outfitted with flush mount rod holders and there are other spots seemingly meant to nestle the tools of the fisherman, but it has been thus far marketed as a 'recreational' S.U.P. Kayak hybrid by it's creators. Far as I'm concerned, I found that even with zero DIY'ing, the Getaway easily comes in as one of the best fishing platforms I have ever paddled on the water. And to sweeten the deal, it comes with a HyDrive. Many years ago, I fell in love with a 'fin' style, foot propelled kayak. And now, I have one built into a boat that fits me like a glove.

I caught my first Jack out of my kayak, just past the jetties in Panama City Beach. It pulled me about 1/2 mile before I landed it. As a guy from Kentucky, I had never felt a fish pull so hard.

Very nice and have watched most of you videos over the years, and couldn’t figure out how to comment because didn’t know password for YT to sign in ,I’m 74 and need in vero beach last 10years since I retired, and now better half wants to move back to NC, to Morehead where, her
two grand kids are and so will be moving at end of this month, it’s also good fishing there but not 29 beaches in a /0 minute drive from where we are now, love your early videos on modifying the small hacks, have learned a lot from your videos, thanks

I’ve seen some fish with some bent spines before. The first time I saw it, it caught me off guard because I didn’t know that fish could get scoliosis or kyphosis.

I wish they held just a bit more weight. I’m 250-260 without gear. A 12’ version would probably be perfect for bigger guys!
