They dont have a leader and they are multilingual which no other kpop group is with languages like korean,eglish,japanese,chinese,Thai ....They are so fluent and highly talented...something you would call a proper global group needs..Each of them are ambassdors for top brands....their first world tour is the highest grossd kpop tour for a female and also the highest for a first time world wide tour ever...They earned their place with just 13 songs and 13 bops and not even a full album....Quality over quantity....ddu-du-ddu-du is the most viewed kpop group song ever and they have achieved all of this in just 3 years and they are a 3.5 year old group debuting on august 8 2016.

K-Pop has been a music genre since the 1990's, and followed similar concepts and sounds that were popular in the western music world, with many artist releasing R&B heavy tracks, and older style rap songs. The 2000's saw similar results with K-Pop using a lot of the same ideas and styles popular in the west.
It really wasn't till the end of the 2000's and beginning of the 2010's that K-Pop did a complete 180 switch and started experimenting with sounds that had never been done before.
K-Pop first started to become popular throughout out Asia in the 2000's, and later branched out into the West. 2012 was the year that K-Pop really became mainstream with groups such as: Girls' Generation, Super Junior, EXO, 2NE1, Big Bang, 4Minute, f(x), and Miss A (and many more) becoming some of the first group's to have their music videos reach the western TH-cam platform. In 2013, Girls' Generation won the very first TH-cam Music Video Award, which led to people discovering K-Pop that way.
Since then K-Pop has grown so much, with at one point their being over 300 groups and soloist active in the music scene. And, now that K-Pop has become a driving music force throughout Asia and North America, they have now branched out to South America, and are collaborating with artists from all over the world.
Group's such as BTS and Black Pink are apart of the 3rd generation (or 4th generation depending on who you ask) of K-Pop. Generation is a term used to pinpoint a time a certain music style was prominent and a way to determine which artists were competing with one another for popularity. Their is no real concrete saying as to how long a generation lasts, but here is a common understanding. To put in perspective the 1st generation of K-Pop were the Beginners and the Ones who started the Journey (1990-1999), 2nd generation were the ones that Branched outside of Korea, and made K-Pop a fighting force in the music scene (2000-2009), and 3rd Generation being the ones who are topping the global music charts, and adding onto the legacy of K-pop (2010-2019). As of 2020 any groups that debut should be apart of the 4th generation. This is up for debate as many think we are still in 3re Generation...
idk if anyone said it but BLACKPINK has a duality concept - black side and pink side. the black side is the badass/girl crush side shown in DDU-DU and BOOMBAYAH and the pink side is the girly/cute side shown in AS IF ITS YOUR LAST and FOREVER YOUNG. most of their songs will fall on either side of that spectrum

There are alolso younger groups age from 13-20 but you also have to remember that for bew group to form years an years go into them traing to be somewhat good with the three elemants that represents kpop which is DANCE, SINGING, AND RAPING. Theres also things like having manners and respecting each other you know like your basic things but im sure each entertainme company makes sure they choose the right people.
The most popular groups that i know of are BTS of course cause they literally represent kpop. Exo, blacjpink, monster ex, nct 127, nct dream, nct u, wavy the whole nct group is confusion but to make short its basically a huge group with sub-units. Everglow, the youngest group that are most known are itzy who are under jyp entertainment and txt (tomorrow by together) who are the second boy group under bighit label's. If you guys want a really great boy/girl group I definitely recommend KARD. They have a really good mix of sound. :3 Bomb Bomb by Kard was the first song that caught my attention, but Red Moon and Dumblitty are good party songs.

There’s a lot of good group in the kpop industry you’d be surprised at the variety and after looking into them you won’t be able to look back at how you see western music the same after listening to kpop. With that said all these groups are in their own league you cant really compare any of them. Blackpink and bts are two completely different groups with different vibes and personalities both music wise and literal only difference is both bts and blackpink are mainstream and real popular. You guys should look into more groups I’m sure you’ll be shocked at how many of them are genuinely really really good.
