Totally. It’s been excellent for me with Control vs Control as well. I played a hilarious control mirror last week where 4 turns in a row we traded Avengers and Devastators. He ran out of Ammo but I was able to Legion my Avenger back to hand and replay it to win.
You say that smoke and cinders is bad but when someone tries to I am your father and they have 5 cards and you make them draw 3 then hit them with smoke and cinders. The look of disgust on their face is like music to my ears
Front line shuttle on things with overwhelm is amazing. technically not attacking a base. I've also used it with mace a couple of times to help hit for more damage with his ready ability from defeating a unit. tough to pull off, but when you do, it is amazing
There was a top by blue iden on a big tournment using galatic ambition 3x on sidebord to bring out relentless (3x) for the control mirror. It does ignore aspect penalty, so I see some fringe value there.
Yesterday I was playing my weekly SWU Friday organized play at my LGS, and a guy I was trading cards with wanted Galactic Ambition. I asked why. He has a tournament next week and he knows there will be several people who play hard control decks. He wants to use Galactic Ambition to play Relentless. Will prevent those guys from playing their SLB For a few addtional turns. Right now it's only use is vs. hard control. Also Frontline Shuttle will be much more useful in Set 2, especially with stuff that has Grit and/or Ambush. (Wookies come to mind.)
The Emperor's Legion is definitely an "anti-control" card. But I think people get tunnel vision in thinking it's only good against Superlaser Blast. No exaggeration: every time I get back a Relentless against control after they just Vanquish it, they scoop. My point is getting a particularly strong threat back against the right deck over and over can be back breaking.
A guy ramped and dropped a Devastator with Galactic Ambition that I couldn't deal with. I didn't have the right cards to remove it and ended up losing.
Yep, I think it’s slept on. I play it in my double green Palp deck and try to get relentless out as soon as I can against mid range and control mirrors. It becomes very difficult to deal with, and I’ve gotten it out as early as turn 4
Exactly what I was thinking. I almost think that it'll work well with cards that hold good individual value as well, so that your two can be guranteed more useful than their two, so building tighter to the power curve would be super useful. And it gets even better if you consider that the very next turn you can hit them with the wombo-combo of Forced Surrender, just about completely deleting their hand in total
Vanguard Ace comes down as a 4/4 in space if you play two other cards with U-Wing. That's very good as it lets you put down a 10/11 worth of stats with a marine and ezra or falcon.
9:13 I have 2 IHNC in my Boba Red deck. I don’t use it often, but I had an amazing play where a Command Luke played a U-wing and I essentially reversed it with this card and the cherry on top, did two dmg with Bossk’s ability to remove a third unit. Situational? sure. Fun? Yes!
I agree with this analysis. I'd only use these if I was in draft and trying to stay in aspect. Galactic Ambition might go into my deck if I had an amazing off color card. But, it would have to be amazing.
I agree with the list except for take on The Emperor's Legion. You don't need to draw 3+ cards from it. At the bare minimum, your 'The Emperor's Legion' can replace itself with any high value unit for 2 mana. It's a value card that gets better the late the game goes. Every card extra is a bonus.
I think the Frontline Shuttle gets undue hate. I’ve used it a couple of times to pull off double Boba attacks which is brutal with his shoot first ability. Also if the opponent wants to save a unit from getting attacked they’ll have to waste either an attack or a kill card to get rid of it. It’s also effective with bigger units like Vader, Avenger, etc. Sure it’s a bit situational but I don’t think it’s all that bad as you think. What other card in the game gives you a second potential attack-with even an exhausted unit-for a measly 2?
I use frontline shuttle with Starfiring Gunship in my Han deck with a Hardpoint Heavy Blaster attached. I can then deal even more damage and do it twice usually taking out a lot of units!
I think there are multiple cards here that might seem bad, but in certain archetypes can be really good. Even if they are good at tech options in sideboards, i dont think they deserve to be on a list like this. Tagge, Chimaera, Emperor's legion, Rallying cry for sure.
I'm not going to argue it's worth a deck slot, but tonight I was playing Chirrut vs Iden blue and Smoke and Cinders would have done some serious work, to the benefit of the control player, actually. I hit Iden with 2 Forced Surrenders and having stopped resourcing, I was floating a hand of 8+ cards vs Iden's 2-3. Each time he Super Lasered I could immediately redploy 3 units to threaten again. If I had to discard to 2 I couldn't have held a bunch of reserve units and Vanquish for Avenger. I probably would have lost to running out of cards if I had to play only 1 topdeck unit/round vs him topdecking removals.
I found that it was quite easy to get a 3/3 - 5/5 Vanguard Ace in Han U Wing Reinforcement decks, and I find it really successful. Despite that though, the card is basically unplayable everywhere else
@@VeiledShotSWU Also on the topic of Han, I have seen people use Frontline Shuttle to counter No Good To Me Dead on the bug Han turn. Again, like Vanguard Ace, it's basically useless in every other deck
Shuttle seems like a passable card for budget players. I never drew the combo (I only owned 1 shuttle at the time), but I used it in my budget Leia deck to go with Steadfast Battalion as a finisher. Drop a Shuttle and overwhelm Battalion in a 2nd time as a surprise.
I don't mind that. ECL in the Battalion to wipe something and give either themselves or something else +2/+2. Attack a second time to give another unit/themselves +2/+2 and wipe something else. In Leia, that would be also brutal to get Leia and another unit to punch the base for 4 additional damage. Slap up a unit that came in on that turn and otherwise doesn't get to do their On Attack effect. Might almost make Chimaera ok. Might.
Unit Tarkin deserves a spot here. He's way to expensive at 4 cost for an alright tutor and terrible stats. You want tutors early on, and by the time he comes out you would already have the units you want on the field and then lose momentum going into the mid game. Only has relevance with Leader Tarkin and certain Vader decks imo.

Chimaera was designed to work with Thrawn, and it works quite well.

Smoke and cinders got me to top 4 in two 1k events. I'm playing heavy Galactic ambition next set. Better believe I'm taking 9 damage for it.

I use rallying cry with my IG 88 deck and it works beautifully when you have your leader in play with another red raid unit. So much damage!

Tbh Smoke and Cinders MIGHT see play in Kylo. Not a guarantee but...
