- Today, the Cove attracts many visitors every year to enjoy the white sand and topaz blue waters, and maybe build a sandcastle! In April 2024, it was listed as one of the best beaches in the world, grabbing the #48 spot! In their efforts to conserve the habitat for rare plants and animals, The National Trust has restricted access to the cliff top view of the cove. Would this spoil your visit?
Kynance has long been revered and heralded over the centuries. The Victorians particularly enjoyed visiting and there are several accounts of their joy and delight at the experience. The locals offered guided tours of the caves and rocks, with many having names to enthral the visitors.
We have been to Kynance Cove several times over the years and know the Cove well. We wanted to share our tips and experiences to help you make the most of your day.

We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on TH-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!

Do we do meet ups?
We regularly receive requests to meet up from viewers and subscribers, but unfortunately we do not have availability to be able to do this.
The channel is a very time consuming hobby, fitted around our employment and family commitments. Setting aside time for meet ups, means that we are not able to film and edit our weekly videos that you love to watch.
If you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!

My father was based at RAF Predannack during WW2 - over 80 years ago - prior to being deployed to North Africa. As a boy back in the '60's he would tell us of his love of the Lizard and the many Coves that I too fell in love with too. I also had a great friend who was a commercial fisherman from Cadgwith, who I regularly visited during the '70's thru to the early '90's, however he was unfortunately lost at sea over 30 years ago and with that awful event, I unfortunately, I lost my appetite for the area for quite some time. Fortunately however, after being posted to the area several years ago, I've started to re-explore the Lizard which brings back some fantastic memories of both my Father and Good Mate Tony, who have now passed. Keep up the great work....
Who says you have to pay and cant park? It's high time we ignored these posters that demand payment for public countryside. This is OUR land. Just because some entity says they now own it, Its not for sale, it belongs to the people of the UK. Get them to show evidence of their authority and leave your phone at home. Enjoy life, live free.
well said. money is just a religion of belief and no one can be forced into religious belief. indeed, idolatry (use of money and corporations) is is crime the moment it is forced upon us.
Unfortunately, you are wrong. The legal debate is ownership of the foreshore ( land between high and low water points). Initially, under the Magna Carta ( yes, it’s specifically cited) the foreshore was deemed to be owned by the Crown ( along with fish weirs). Now some are owned by local councils and some by private landlords, so access is dictated by hurdles they place because trespass is a civil not criminal matter. And, of course, car parking on private land is the subject of an entirely different consideration.
Speaking of 💩contamination of the sea, where do you imagine the waste from those toilets go? It is not feasible to perform the usual catch & treat manoeuvres in this geographic location. So the only solution is to stop tourism.
Someone has to pay to make, maintain and man the carpark and road to it, these things don't appear naturally, the steps don't repair themselves the paths don't naturally grow gravel, if you park without a ticket you'll receive a fine in the post.
Troll, you don’t own anything, we as “English” people don’t own a thing we didn’t pay for and even then it’s mostly rented. There is some seriously stupid people in this country. You expect to be treated like a king in this country because you had the luck to be born here and yet you expect the same when you enter someone else’s country.

Lovely couple doing a good job of. showing us around Cornwall. When i went to Kynance Cove in may 2024, one of the National Trust Staff told me don't let your dog go into the long grass Adders have been seen and a dog was bitten by one. Take care and have a good time.

Whilst obviously a beautiful cove to visit, me being bed/wheelchair-bound, I can appreciate such views without having to be wheeled anywhere / everywhere (by my daughter). Plus, with my only travels taking me from my home, via hospital transport vehicles to St.Thomas' (diabetic eye care), Guys (failing kidneys - Renal Clinic) and Lewisham (Warfarin levels) all regular visits, and the full extent of my excursions outside my home. ...

When we were in Kynance Cove for the first time, we managed to get down the stairs to the beach without getting our feet wet. We were overwhelmed by the beautiful bay. It is by far the most beautiful beach in Great Britain, if not the whole world. Thank you for the great video. Kind regards, Günter

My gran used to live down church cove and often an children we would end up in Kynance for a Sunday outing we grew up in Pool so it was great going to grans at the weekend, I equally love Dossmary Pool area too

Thank you for all these great videos. Lovely to spot the green serpentine in the stone steps up from the high tide path 😊My friend and I had a break at Kynance Cove during a walk along the coastal path. It was during the warm days in July 2022, and at low tide, which was thoroughly planned. The sea was turqoise and calm and held about 18-19 degrees. It looked just as picture perfect as on the best Instagram pics. The beach and the whole area felt quite a bit bigger than I had imagined. We waded a bit in the sea and loved it. And I regret to this day that I didn't take a dip. We decided against it because it would take more time than we were willing to spend (having a good distance to walk further on), and the backpacks would be heavier with the wet swimming costumes, towels and bathing shoes. But in retrospect I see that it was a silly decision. There were a lot of people but there were still places to be seated. We loved the place, and I would give it 5 based on our experiences. Congratulations Sarah and Andrew - another of your little gems! Kynance Cove must be one of the places I never visited when I was living in Cornwall, because I couldn't have forgotten such an idyllic location. The colours and the contrast in shades in this video are absolutely stunning. As well as your skills, I think it must have something to do with the evening light.

The old disused white cottage on the way to the Cove, in conjuction with dangerous seas, reminded me of the mother of all erosion - the Hallsands tragedy. In case you might want to cover this story yourselves one day (I really hope you will), just the barest details here. Hallsands is/was a fishing village in south Devon that fell victim to a terrible storm in 1917, eventually leaving just the one white cottage like the one mentioned above. How this happened is a scandal - worthy of being retold, in a way only you can, just over a century later as a tribute to the 137 people who lost their homes.

To all those commenters whingeing about car park fees, the money provides much needed funding for the National Trust. It is a Charity, and therefore not-for-profit,. They maintain the whole cornish coastal footpath, provide toilets and cafes etc., as well as hundreds of properties and environmentally managed areas. Support them!, we all benefit.
We were there 31 years ago, a lovely place and we saw seals very close to the shore. Parking was free back then!
Love Kynance, such a favourite for swimming and taking children to and going through to the second beach and the deep cave behind it - don’t get caught by the incoming tide !
I served at RNAS Culdrose from 1985 to 1990 as a Helicopter Engineer and this was the best beach we used to go to. Fantastic for swimming not too many tourists as it wasn’t very well known or more popular as the other beaches at the time such as Prarr Sands, Church Cove and others.
We've been going to Kynance for over 30 years and its got more packed each year. last year the car parks were full and they were using a field a long way from the beach so we didn't bother. i believe the old film , "the thief of Bagdad" used Kynance for the ship wreck scene. You do some great video guys, really enjoy them and im going to follow one or two of your walks this summer . thank you.
Hi Sarah and Andrew, thank you so much for this wonderful footage of Kynance Cove. We visited this unique place often. I think if it protects nature it is okay that the National Trust restricted the access to the cliff top. But the rope is very low. I don't know if people let themselves be stopped from climbing over it. We love to visit Kynance cove in September. I miss Cornwall so much this May. Thank you both for sharing this wonderful videos. 😅Kynance Cove has always been one of my Favourites it’s a must to visit, spent many sunbathing and swimming days there!
I lived in the beautiful middle east for many years and there you have true freedom. You would never be asked to pay for parking or even taxed. UK reminds me very much of China with its restrictions.
I'm glad I'm a mountain person. You can keep the coast, the crowded beaches and the seagull thieves. That is, the seagulls are the thieves, and I was not saying that there are thieves who steal seagulls.
Kynance is suffering badly from over tourism. I really wish the press/media/TH-cam would stop mentioning it, or at the very least list the many negatives about it. I live near Kynance Cove and it really needs a limit on the numbers of people going there. There are several other beaches in the area with more facilities and they have easy access without the need of climbing experience.

I found your comments interesting as we've had a holiday on the Lizard many times these past 60 years with children, grandchildren, dogs since the early 60's. Now in our 80's with mobility difficulties we visited last year for probably the last time. You mentioned other similar beaches in this area and would welcome your advice please.

In Cornwall, we seem to have become victims of our own success in recent years. For various reasons, I feel that Cornwall has become more popular again, which is great for local businesses but there is a limit to what our infrastructure can stand, and I have noticed a number of 'protective measures' that have been put into place at various beauty spots. Of course, coastal erosion has a part to play in this too.
Your assessment of Kynance, in my opinion, is spot on. I think that your footage cleverly provides a constructive and realistic portrayal of the reality that visitors may find when visiting Kynance, and indeed the rest of Cornwall, while still emphasising the beauty of the place. I take landscape photographs of Cornwall as a hobby and there are many 'versions' of Cornwall to be enjoyed. Personally, I prefer the stormy, moody winter, spring and autumn version to, what I call, the sanitised, blue sea and golden sand images found in tourist brochures, and always search for alternative viewpoints at different locations. Ironically my preferred viewing point at Kynance was the one that is now the official suggested one, so I shall just have to plan another visit and find another favourite. - Out of season and in a force 10, of course!

Kynance Cove has a stunning coast line, but too complicated for me to get my head around, no trouble for a pair of mountain goats though, a most enjoyable virtual tour, Andrews Lion joke was a bit tame but made me smile 😊 and Sarah giggle 🤭 the incoming tide certainly does roar like a lion 🦁 I have a couple of pieces of beautifully veined rock that I lacquered and used for paper weights that I collected some fifty years ago:) thank you both for this amazing footage and great commentary 👌🥀🤗

With a full car park they are making nearly £3k a day. Nice little earner.

What a lovely walk. Thank you for posting, its years since I’ve been to the Lizard but I never made it to this beach. With the amount of tourism now I can understand why the National Trust want to protect the ecology of this area and have to limit access to certain areas. If everyone wants to experience its beauty it has to be protected for everyone to enjoy. I would defiantly go out of season. 👍🌿🙂
I have a beach or two that I can walk to from home, dog friendly, and in over a decade there have been half a dozen people also found them. Wide beach, rocks for diving off depending on the tide & wonderful solitude. They are…

The difficulty we have had with any NT sites is that they appear to be aggressively targeting youtubers who post images and are monetised - on top of that, restriction of access seems to be happening at other sites in the UK. Great video though, really do enjoy your content!
As I recall and understand, alegedly..... The abandoned buildings are not owned by National Trust and have refused access for the owners to renovate and maintain the buildings. The owners refuse to sell them to National trust. This situation has persisted for at least 25 years and seems unlikely to change. Shame on you National Trust.
Another great trek with Sarah and Andrew
National Trust maintain a lot of the coastal areas in Cornwall and around the UK. How do you imagine they shift the stones to repair the footpaths and a myriad of volunteers to assist repairs. If you travel to Scotland you’ll see the problems they have in restoring footpaths well away from any road. Parking fees help pay for this work and closures (Dorset especially) are down to their liability as a Landowner to protect visitors from injury. Help them repair the paths you complain about by volunteering or joining the National Trust and then you park in their car parks for free , instead of moaning about something you don't want to understand properly. Easy to complain when you don't think about the complexities and realities of being a Charity landowner !

The stroms this year have wrecked a lot of our coastal areas.
It must be frustrating for the locals too having these areas full of tourists trapsing through in the summer and often who have no repsect for the areas.
So I can understand areas now being protected by NT.

I remember the first time we went to Kynance Cove , lived nearby in Helston , as we were walking down the track , low tide one , we heard an almighty scream coming from down near the beach , we thought someone may have fallen on the rocks or the like , when we got down on to the beach , I asked a young guy if the scream came from anybody who had been hurt , he replied " No , that was mu Dad , he dived in to the sea and the scream was his reaction to the sea temperature ! " A beautiful part of Cornwall , the Lizard Peninsula is so scenic , thanks for the vlog Andrew and Sarah .
I stayed in the cottage (now sadly boarded up) for a week's holiday back in the mid-70s. An old couple stayed in the cottage furthest from the beach and rented out the one nearest the beach. The cove was busy during the day but after about 6 p.m. we had it to ourselves; although one evening a quick run round the rocks nearly saw me trampling a couple who obviously thought they were alone in the cove!!
It became extra busy after Poldark. I have once been on a spring high tide and the water was right up to the cliffs, lots of baffled tourists sat on rocks looking for the beach 😂.

I don't think its a bad thing that the National Trust are trying to protect the cliffs and shore line. for safety and protecting the beauty of our coast . Just an example, We used to love visiting the Azure Window in Gozo Malta ,visitors ignored signs not to walk along the top of the Windows ledge and unfortunately it collapsed into the sea. Luckily no one was on it but due to people ignoring the notices, the famous landmark is no longer there. Protect our beautiful landmarks by respecting it ❤

Used to go to Cornwall years ago, but no way I am going back there, especially after all residents were so nasty during Cvid yet whine about wanting tourist money. They just want tourist money without having to see the tourists. So many nicer places to go where the people are nicer too.

Have you guys ever been to Cott Valley at low tide? If one goes there in the evening, head over the little bridge on the left, follow the path up on to the point and watch the ands End fireworks around 8pm.
It’s a beautiful place but I went last year and people just left disposable BBQ’s and rubbish on the cliffs down to the beach. So disrespectful. Leave nothing behind but your footsteps is always my mantra.
For £10 paking I would want my own viewing spot.
It was ten pounds in a York multistorey . About 15 years ago and that was for about 12 hours.
Kynance Cove used to be a special place, known by only a few who respected this and took care of it.
Now spoilt by the hordes, primarily due to it's overexposure through social media.
The one thing they don’t tell you is that the beach isn’t patrolled by lifeguards. The sea can have an undertow pulling you out to sea. For a strong swimmer it’s hard but others can drown. A few years ago my wife pulled a man from the sea. Air sea rescue came but despite cpr whilst waiting for the helicopter the man died. A beautiful beach, but take care when swimming please!
Excellent video. We always visit Kynance when in Cornwall. We park in Lizard and walk the SWCP to Kynance. We find NT membership very useful in Cornwall for parking. As long as one is a member parking is free.

Stunning panoramic scenery and soothing ocean sounds. I usually visit Cornwall late September to mid May, when it's mostly quieter. About 15 yrs ago I was lucky to buy the prettiest vintage sounenir of Serpentine rock, with one face polished like a sheer cliff, showing amazing colours, an the sweetest painted lead seagull perched wings-open on top (which probably dates it pre-'60s). I found it on a charity stall oustide Jubilee Pool Penzance that was then raising funds for restoration.
It isn't quiet in May anymore.
To be fair it does get very busy there and so more erosion is happening - sadly this means that some parts are now out of bounds. It's such a lovely place but not when it's so crowded you cant easily pass on the paths. Our dog had her first swim there so happy memories - it was November and still very busy
Went a couple years ago tide was in there were so many people down on the beach it almost standing only .We went and sold our £10.00 parking ticket for £5.00 to someone prepared to make thier way through the crowds.
It does get crazy busy there during the summer. I tend to go in the evenings and catch the sun setting. Out of season, it's a joy to be able to explore without all the crowds.
It's worth checking online before you go to these places now to try and find out if you need a parking app, so you can download it beforehand, as quite often the mobile signal in these places is next to nothing.

Yes it's ten pound an hour after 23 hundred hours or five pounds an hour is your a NT member.
Hmm not sure if I agree about it being the most white sand in the whole of the UK. St Martins in the Isles of Scilly is far more white and sparkles in the sun.
It would spoil my visit more if I realised later that they were not conserving the habitat for rare plants and animals.
It seems the rare plants etc were disregarded in favour of the paying film crew though.
They are certainly not conserving the indigenous Cornish, or their ancient Brittonic language.

Strange then that the language was all but extinct by the end of the 18th century, but now the language is now growing again, is taught in schools and appears on street nameplates. The sign doesn't say you must not cross the rope. It is only asking you to keep to the path. It is a nice location that I walked back in the 1990s. I am now 71 and would not be able to do it again , I hope you had a good day from EVE from Kent.
There is a problem all over the UK with disrespectful people who dirty camp and destroy what the seek to enjoy. When I go anywhere I know I have to respect the attempts by the natural trust to conserve these places
Also anyone who complains that they can't get a perfect Instagram photo rather than preserving the area for future generations is just selfish
I went here in feb this year. The torrential rain travelling at 50mph horisontally meant i lasted ten minutes ! Maybe in better weather (for some reason that escapes me hardly any cars parked here 🤣)
I went back to Durdle door in Dorset a few years ago as it was always such a beautiful place. It was a hot day and absolutely ramped with people. Only about 10% of the people were talking English. I didn't even make it to the beach, I turned around, walked back and left. Britain is ruined.
Imagine all the countries that same the same thing about the British invading their countries on their holidays.

No English speakers about? Ain’t that terrible. I have the same trouble in Cornwall. But with me I have trouble finding people who speak Kernowick (Cornish) as the vast majority are English Speakers.

17:43 There is a painting by Albert Goodwin (1845-1932) of "Kynance Cove, Cornwall" close to that very spot. I can't find a date when it was painted. A part from the sand, it doesn't seemed to have changed much.

What a beautiful place it is. I haven't been for ages because of the crowds, but will definitely get down there when summer has closed out this year. Art request - you did a couple of lovely pen-and-ink drawings with watercolour wash during a Warleggan walk video from a couple of years ago that I saw recently. They had long since sold (not surprisingly) but I thought they were fantastic, so please do some more of those....!

Went to Kynance about 12 years ago. I had my photo taken on the edge of the cliff (the area you are no longer allowed to go on). Over tourism is causing lots of problems and untold damage. As you are locals, I feel you have a right to climb over the rope and take your pic. I'm not sure which route we took to get down (and up), but it was all rocky and it was literally clambering over rocks. Got down to the beach and had a little paddle. It was lovely and it was quite windy too. There was another path which led to the cafe, so you either took the rocky route or the cafe route but I don't think there was access to the beach from the cafe. Have they put a new path in then? Seeing abandoned housing near the sea that needs rebuilding is a very rare sight in Cornwall these days.

I got wet feet there a few years ago underestimating the speed of incoming tide… thought I had time/clear path along the cliff, but mid way across a larger wave soaked my feet 😂

Hi Dougie, I have a shop on Etsy.com, cornishwalkingtrails.etsy.com. I listed the Kynance painting and it is still available at the moment. There are other pieces on there and I regularly add new stock. If you would like something specific, let me know. Please be aware that the low tide path route is quite steep in places and if you have any health concerns choose the high tide route.
