In this video, I demonstrated how to install XAMPP and WordPress on Mac M1 and/or M2 chips. However, please note that English is not my native language. You can enable closed captions (CC) to see subtitles, as some words may have unclear pronunciation and there may be errors caused by using Adobe AI's noise removal tool with speech enhancement.
* Note: This tutorial is for Macs with M1 or M2 chips. For Mac users with an Intel chip, all versions of XAMPP are compatible with MacOS and can work on a Mac with an Intel chip.
* For Windows users, you can install the latest version of XAMPP because all versions of XAMPP are compatible with Windows.
* For Mac users with the M1 and/or M2 chip, compatible versions of XAMPP include 7.4.27 and version 8.1.2.

Installation (For Mac users)
* Note: If APACHE, PROFTPD, MYSQL DATABASES are stoped and not running, go to Activity Monitor on your Mac. Search for HTTPD, SQL, PROFTPD, and stop all. Rerun Apache again and click Start All button.

Try to check these:
1. Check Database Credentials: Ensure that the database credentials in your WordPress configuration file (wp-config.php) match the database settings in XAMPP (username, password, database name, and host).
2. Verify Database Server is Running: Make sure the MySQL database server is running in XAMPP. Check the XAMPP control panel to see if the MySQL module is active.
3. Restart Services: Sometimes, restarting the Apache and MySQL services in XAMPP can resolve the connection issue.
4. Check Database Host: Ensure that the database host specified in wp-config.php matches the one configured in XAMPP. The default is usually 'localhost'.
5. Test Database Connection: Try connecting to the database using a database client (e.g., phpMyAdmin) in XAMPP to verify if the connection is working.
6. Repair Database: If the issue persists, the database might be corrupted. Use the "Repair" option in phpMyAdmin or a database repair tool to fix any potential issues.
7. Check Firewall/Antivirus: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can interfere with the database connection. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the problem.
8. Debug Mode: Enable WordPress debugging to get more specific error messages. Edit wp-config.php and set WP_DEBUG to true.
9. Reinstall WordPress: As a last resort, consider reinstalling WordPress in XAMPP, making sure to use the correct database credentials.

After these i install any plugin or theme it ask me fttp credentials what i do?
Simply add the following codes to your wp-config.php file.
define('FS_METHOD','direct');
Then, save the file, and try to install the plugin again.
If you can install it normally, you’re good to go.

Running XAMPP > Manage Servers > I clicked Start All > But the ProFTPD Stopped and will not Run. What to do please advice
Go to Activity Monitor on your Mac > Search for ProFTPD > and stop it.
Next, rerun Apache again.

Hello Tom! What a great tutorial, IK almost got til the end, but struggling to start that PROFTPD on my Mac. Nothing seems to work out, it is not in an activity log, Ive tried to change some host files but it didn't work either. I am not a it guy and very far away from coding, how can I start it in order to get that Wordpress done finally?

Thanks for your tutorial! It was pretty helpful, but I still have a question. After I installed Wordpress I wanted to install Astra as a theme. After I tried to install it, Wordpress asked me for connection information. Is there any kind of trick or something?

What is ProFTPD? How can I install and run it? On my mac, it is shows red flag 🔴
Go to Activity Monitor, and search for ProFTP and stop it. Then, rerun Apache again.
I get error when I install wordpress. Cannot select database
The database server could be connected to (which means your username and password is okay) but the database could not be selected.
Are you sure it exists?
Does the user root have permission to use the database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_. Could that be the problem?
If you do not know how to set up a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress support forums
Ok I found the problem. I didnt duplicate the samle file. After I duplicated it and rename the file it works. I didnt have to do that on Windows so I skipped that part which was a mistake. I hope other learn from this mistake. You must duplicate and rename the samle file! Thanks for the video. Big help.
it didn't work for me, I did same to same as u shown, I even download the same version as u did but it shows me error 403 of forbidden that I don't have access of it, please help. me through it. I'm a college student

I have face some error on the database creating, just need to make sure u follor the steps correctly, for example my issue is the password of the user is not correct.

Hi I have followed your tutorial exactly and when I just got to the " start all " portion where everything should be running the only one that doesnt run is " MySQL Database " can You or someone please explain to me why as I cannot get it to run and go green like the rest? please
Go to Activity Monitor on your Mac and search for SQL, then stop this SQL. Next, re-run Apache again and click Start All button. Enjoy

Launchpad is the place to store all apps in MacBook.

Hi Tom! I woud like to ask how to rerun apache again after stopping ProFTPD in the activity monitor?
After stopping ProFTPD, you can simply launch an Apache again (or sometimes Manager - OSX), then select > Manage Servers, then click on Start All button. Make sure that all servers are running. Hope that you can fix it.

Hi, where can I find the Server name (hostname) please? Does it require me to install plugins before? Thank you for your help.
You mean the server name, right? It's Localhost. You can type "localhost/wordpress" on your browser, and you will see your website on localhost (your PC). In addition, you have to download the wordpress files using Simply Static plugin. Next, you can deploy this file on Netlify. So, your website will live on the internet, and you can change your domain name. To do so, you can check my video "WordPress Tutorial".

Do I need to keep XAMPP running all the time?
You have to keep running only when you run WordPress. When you finished it, you can close XAMPP. Remember that you run all servers in XAMPP before starting to use WordPress.
