    Thank you so much for this idea. You should sell these. Might need more oxygen for the plant but I saw you put some thought into that I hope it works.

    I live in Baltimore and I love going to the Smithsonian myself. I never get tired of the place. Thank you for the video. I am really seriously thinking of doing this myself. I ended up keeping my daughter's goldfish (since she is now a military wife). And I still want to consider using the 2 I have to help grow some food inside. I have garden fever already and it's too cold here.

    Oh man, what an awesome setup. I'd love to do something like this, but unfortunately, I live in an apartment with no porch/patio and we're not allowed to keep things that would mess up the lawn. Although even if I could I'd still be out of luck since they spray pesticides all over the place and I doubt the neighbourhood kids could resist throwing a piece of pizza or something in the water to feed the fish! Someday and until then I'll just have to live vicariously through videos like this so thanks for sharing!

    nice little setup you did there. FYI your going to get algae growth on your media because your dropping the water on top of the media instead of just under the surface. Algae on top of your media is bad for your aquaponics because it will eat your nutrients and oxygen before it can get to your plants. A bell siphon is not always needed. Stuff like lettuce is fine being submersed, but stuff like tomatoes prefer an ebb N flow setup with the bell siphon. You can run both at the same time, just run your submersion bed before your ebb N flow bed.

    I live in a townhouse and have been dying to make one of these, so I got a tent and am planning on making one with an old 75 gallon tank, should I use a heater in the tank to regulate the temp in the tent and water or just let it run?

  • @michiel831

    Hey Zenzo your mini pond looks nice.
    I just started my own first minipond about a month ago.
    It was my construction project with my grandpa, great to learn from him.
    I am planning on breeding my swordtails out there this summer.
    Being from holland i just have to wait for the water to heat up a bit more.
    I was just happy to set it up a bit early for it to cycle and establish a little more before getting fish in it.
    i used 50% aquarium water en 50% '''fresh'' tapwater.
    If you are curious i can set you a e-mail with some pictures of what i'm doing.
    I started following your channel after the lifestream of Cory you did a few weeks back. You clearly have a lot of knowledge and experience. That is what i like about your channel.
    I would like to advise you to cut your ''intro'' a bit shorter. it is a 12 minute video and the first 3 minutes are updates on your life and not on the real subject. Maybe it's me personally but it makes the video a bit to long.
    Otherwise keep up the good work informing people about our nice hobby!
    im sorry if my english is nog perfect, its only my second language.

    Is there any reason people always use fish tanks you can't see into? Might as well show them off right?

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually it’s two reasons. Cost and algae. The cost of having a viewing panel or having a full glass or acrylic tank outside is significant, as most of them are large systems. Secondly, because of amount of sunlight that they receive, the glass would basically always be green and brown, covered in algae.

    Hi.. you mentioned about not using a bell pipe which is exactly the alternative I'm looking for. could you explain how did you arrange the rock layer so that it does not sit at the bottom of the pot and not clogging the outlet pipe?

    • @TazawaTanks

      by the way, is it okay for the plants with water not going to dry? I mean your system have continuous flow of water unlike with the others that have bell siphon

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the plants and how high the water level goes. In my system, the water only fills about half of the bed, so the rhizome stays dry. Also, in many bell siphon systems, they fill to the top pretty quickly, so the entire root structure will get wet anyway.
