Some have called you a hack in the past because you've bypassed mosfets before and got laptops working, but when you double checked your voltage readings and discovered the cause for the initial discovery and went further; that proves you're not a hack because a hack would have just bypassed the mosfet and not checked to see if the circuit was working properly.
    Excellent troubleshooting.

I've worked on this laptop before, there's a Adapter Sense to check if the charger is fully seated into the charging jack. Both pins on the side of the center pin on jack have to be shorted to ground.

Sorin - I think I have this exact issue on my daughter's Asus ROG gaming laptop! I've partly fixed it - with watching you videos over the past couple of years, using voltage injection - I found the first mosfet having 19v at the drain, and nothing on the source or gate. Not knowing too much, I then used voltage injection on the source and the laptop sprung alive! The battery was flat and the laptop charging light was constantly flashing. I put a jumper wire over the first mosfet as I've seen you do in many videos and works perfectly on adapter only. Due to battery taking all night to only charge at 60%, and battery light still flashing - I did put it down to a charging circuit issue, but my "skills" was exhausted by then! I think I'll leave it for now since it now works (adapter only) and daughter only ever uses the laptop plugged in. But it does give me some insight should I ever look at the laptop again! For safety, I did disconnect the battery. Brilliant stuff. Excellent video and diagnostics!

I have an Acer Aspire 5 that does have a faulty charging port. It is really fussy about the angle that the charge cable is at. ( I have three chargers and an Acer Aspire 3 that has no problems with the same chargers ). I might replace it at some point in the future.

My Acer laptop reached its peak performance by draining it in Bios, record time drained my perfectly good battery in 18 minutes, in Windows regular use lasts for 1 h 9 minutes, or longer. My fan speed ran at max speed in bios the first time, and the draining didn’t generate additional heat. Typically mosfets turn on in Bios, the trick needs 10 discharges in Windows, one in Bios. I am through 5 cycles, that is 55 discharges now. Each time one extra secret ability or function turns on. My battery is 12.74 V fully charged, default 10.8v battery. The min shutdown is at 9.8v about. The battery calibration and refreshing happens in Balanced mode. That can enable 1% hibernation.

Thanks for your teaching🙏🤗. I have my laptop Doing the inverted thing. Working fine without battery, rarely shutting down suddenly without any reason. But when I insert the battery wich is a new or a old, and power on, the computer shut down, and a light blink. Return to normal if I unplug the charging port, but also removing the battery. I have not opened it for now, because I use this ACER, without the battery, but this is boring not to be able to move without a cable. So, perhaps, as this is not regular, I was thinking that could be a bad sold issue? I take a lot of care to my laptops, this one was a older one from my daughter with Win7 native, A4 inside, as new, sometime as I see the dirty ones you have to repair, I'm laughing... How people can give to repair a computer without any care! With the dust and digit prints everywhere, this is amazing. I have for music lot of computers because every one drive a virtual instrument, and also very old ones, with win 95, electronics and technical aspect of things are not my speciality, but when you have old keyboards from the eighties and old material, but no money, you must be able to do the things by yourself, so.🤯🙀🤗😾😉💫

I have a problem with one similar to this one, that while it was on it stopped charging the battery, then I turned it off and I realized that voltage is returning to the charger since, when I disconnect the charger from the current, it keeps telling me that it is on charging, but obviously it discharges me, that's why I wanted to know more or less what the problem could be, the battery is not charging and it doesn't turn on without the battery either

Haven't looked up the chip, but I fear it may be serialized to the motherboard, since many charging ic have some kind of firmware, impossible to obtain, unless you are the factory. If the said chip has memory inside, (look the data sheet) then its game over unless you can find a donor board.

BQ chips (various numbers) are a reasonably common TI battery charge controller found in all kinds of charging applications. One of the better known ones to repair shops is in the Nintendo Switch. However, getting hold of pretty much anything from Texas Instruments is difficult at the moment. Everything is expensive and/or on back order for many months in the future.

You are going to waste money by buying the bq24780 chip which is working fine the fault is the 3rd mosfet (PQ2) from the battery to the system , You have 1st then 2nd mosfet there is a 3rd one from the battery to the system power (main voltage rail) then you have the highside and lowside to charge the battery the 3rd mosfet is shorted

    • @electronicsrepairschool

Laptops these days are getting ridiculous. With smaller boards and absence of cd-rom and hdd there is enough space for bigger battery and better cooling. But manufacturers are trying to save on one screw so how can we expect anything better. Not to mention that on my laptop from 20 yrs ago I had 2MP camera and now laptops come with VGA camera!
Few years ago I bought Acer laptop that wasnt cheap (subjective) with last gen ryzen cpu. After some time i tried to game a little. At that moment something fell off. What I realized cpu intensive games wouldnt play good. Because games were much older than cpu ive startet grinding on forums and information that was there shocked me! Manufacturer ACER in the intention to save money didnt design proper cooling system so they restricted CPU to cooling wattage. Why didnt they just put less expensive, less powerful cpu instead of making shit cooling system? Not to mention that battery charge is shit also. But cherry on top is charger so weak its struggling to even charge if laptop is using full potential.
If anyone red this whole text im sorry for wasting your time, but this needed to be said. Better buy expensive phone than expensive laptop (my opinion).

For anyone who is confused about what a MOSFET is that's regularly mentioned, here's so information.
The metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET, MOS-FET, or MOS FET), also known as the metal-oxide-silicon transistor (MOS transistor, or MOS), is a type of insulated-gate field-effect transistor that is fabricated by the controlled oxidation of a semiconductor, typically silicon.
