Questions from The Netherlands 🇳🇱 (a Social Democracy where priorities are income redistribution, regulation - e.g. education, healthcare, social security, paid vacation and sick days, et cetera -, and maintaining a welfare state .... Want you to have that too. Push your politicians and otherwise don't vote them into power! Citizen's rights over companies' extreme profit).
If CitizensUnited made money in politics possible (not directly for a specific politician's campaign and it should be known who donated), and a later ruling (not by the Supreme Court) decided that the amount of money that could be spent by corporations could be unlimited and SuperPACs started (not clear anymore who donated), as long as it still was not directly for a specific candidate ...
    >> Q: Why doesn't the Supreme Court revisit the CitizensUnited ruling? > Q: Why wouldn't the Supreme Court limit the amount of money to be spent and make it mandatory to be able to show who the donor is (no dark money!), while still regarding the corporations as natural persons?

Because this Supreme Court has already decided it's ok and don't see a reason to revisit, they're also deeply biased towards Republicans and some are corrupt. So the only way to reverse it is for Congress to create a constitutional amendment which is difficult.

In the USA democrats and republicans work for the same corporate donors. Democrats in D.C. are there to present the illusion of choice whilst maintaining the status quo. They are no there to make change.
In the USA the Electoral College prevents democracy.

Agreed but there will have to be a huge power shift in all branches of our government to even get such considered. As it stands, it would be impossible. Republicans love Citizens United decision because it is what got them into power.

    • @gregrice1354
      @gregrice1354 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

@rhondah1587 Your analysis is only a mash up of conventional assumptions.
Sen. Warren just DEMONSTRATED SUCCESS WITH RATIONAL JUSTICE MAKING PARTISAN POLITICS IRRELEVANT!Money INHERENTLY CORRUPTS ALL civil process of Citizen Decision and Deliberations, such as court Jury Trials (with all Citizen-Juries), and in every town/city/county/state/Fed. corporate bid for contract with government agencies.SO:
      1. Legal/Justice Purpose:Apply existing models of valid, successful, just, fair procedures in our government, such as in: a. Model of standard ethical practice by EVERY CITY, and ALL employment decisions and bidding commercial contractor receiving fair public comment/vote on hiring decision/contract decisions. b. Model of restricted speech and behavior monitored and readily enforce by armed/present bailiffs/law enforcement and Judge in EVERY CASE IN EVERY CITY across the U.S.
      2. Application of valid reasoning in Law, Constitution, and Stare Decisis/Case Law examples that demonstrate Money (whether called "speech" or not) is ALWAYS corrupting of otherwise impartial decisions by citizens, the majority of whom NEVER have the resources of a corporation.a. Sue the Fed. Election Commission or every state Attorney General for FAILING to keep the exclusive right to vote in elections fair and uninfluenced by ANY money (Citizen-Voting NEEDS no money, as We The People already own and license and regulate all Public Media Spectra INCLUDING IP Posted Internet content in the U.S.), as we already do in noted cases across the nation, for over 200 years - SCOTUS erred (FUCKED UP BIG TIME, intentionally, corruptly - as frightened old, white, Republican men, with Nixon's appointment of Lewis Powell to US SCOTUS, and the 1976 ruling on Buckley v Valeo case - criminally incompetent equivocation of for-profit-only purpose, owned by voters (only sometimes). which is EXACTLY same issue of crime of Undue Influence, Election Interference, Graft, even threats and intimidation on citizens and/or their families/loved ones.
      3. We The People Demand and Require ONLY Public Media be utilized, voluntarily or by application of Eminent Domain, the use of Air Time on TV/Radio/Mobile Texting/Email/XM/Satellite media, during regularly scheduled, and emergency held federal elections. 4. We apply the most punitive penalties for all citizen-jury adjudged cases of ANY false or misleading speech by ANY candidate for federal office, during the regularly scheduled or emergency elections. The penalties should be as severe as that stated in Constitution 14th Amendment Section 3, for all insurrectionists, and that is immediate barring, for life, from ALL public offices, local, state, federal, and possible additional criminal charges with associated fines, penalties, and prison sentences. ALL such cases of violation of election law MUST BE and SHALL BE charged, investigated and ISSUED final judgment BEFORE the suspected violator-candidate is permitted to be listed as candidate on the federal ballots (or otherwise legally invalidated, instantaneously from moment citizen-jury judges the case and issues their decision to public by any means. NO FURTHER law enforcement representative, or agency, or court, shall be required to enforce or enact the disqualification. Fed. Election Commission may indicate in writing, by affixing text to any print ballot, or any electronic device or electronic voting display device, to clarify the instantaneous disqualification of the candidate from the present, pending ballot.
So this case, if forced to be viewed on actual, consistent legal principles, on the Constitution, on actual case laws (NOT SCOTUS created legislation), SCOTUS LOSES BIG TIME. This is doable (though the secular priesthood of attorneys/"officers of the court" have failed to step forward in the 50 years since Buckley v Valeo to stand up for FAIR and equitable elections, NOT monopolized by 2 partisan political parties or Duopoly parties, which "happened to be in existence" when the SCOTUS ruling created them as the two default, primary beneficiaries of Corporate Money/bribes.

@@suzanneemerson2625 Hi Suzanne, I'm sorry I didn't see your questions earlier. Three separate hearing tests informed me that I have mild hearing loss probably age-related since I'm 64. Typically, I sometimes can't distinguish the sound of p from b or d. Likewise, f and s can be difficult to tell apart. I consider my need for the pods to be situational. Of course I can't say how well they'll work for others - only that they work fine for me. Please keep in mind that the Apple Pro 2 Air pods have a battery life of only about 6 hours between charges. Good luck. If you have any other questions, write back and I'll try answering them as well as I can.

With all due respect and appreciation for what you both do (and have done) for our country, Prof Reich, when will you invite Ms Williamson in for a conversation? She has been advocating for getting big money out of politics, supporting a middle class to thrive, and for the Democratic party to return to its roots - supporting the working class. I would welcome that conversation. 😊🇺🇸

I’ve been an audiologist for 30+ years. The “20%” problem is not really about cost, it’s about access. In countries where prescription hearing aids are in included in public health, the access is still around 20%. We audiologists like to practice M-F 9-5 which gentrifies hearing care to those who are not working or who have paid sick leave.
Fast forward to 2024, OTCs are out and the data shows that for mild hearing loss (the cherry-picked easy to fit population the manufacturers and dispensers and audiologists want) well-designed OTCs fir by an app get equal measure able outcomes to an audiologist fitting it.
The real monopoly is not the hearing aids themselves, but the vertical integration of the entire industry. 5 companies own nearly the entire service delivery Sistine from diagnostic equipment, including the sellers and calibrators of those tools, to buying groups, to hearing aids. They all also own retail distribution chains.

I’m gonna put a word in here for people like me who, though able to buy this equipment, cannot tolerate foreign objects stuck into bodily orifices. (Im talking PANIC ATTACKS) Having this industry all tied up with neat little bows disincentivises innovation. It is beyond belief given the state of technology that a hearing aid cant be developed to sit like earphones outside the ear canal, but why should the industry go to the trouble when it’s so lucrative as it is.

We need newer responsible knowledgeable people in office senate and congress. People close to 35 who are knowledgeable, competent, disciplined, problem solvers and care for the majority need to start looking at those positions. We can vote them out and help our people. Get people in there who can RESPECTFULLY have a conversation even if there are disagreements. I’m mad, close to 35, and seriously considering it. We need a movement and we need it now

This is a Democrat telling a Republican story: In Illinois a mid-state lawyer gets enticed into debating Stephen Douglas in a number of local towns in the state that in the end creates enough small time local state money to drum up interest for him to run in 1860 for President of the United States. The bid was staggeringly successful. Now in current times could Elon Musk or Comcast find enough interest to finance an Abraham Lincoln run for office? What would they want in return? Would their money be big enough to overwhelmingly crush individual donations? Does it need to be dark or can it be glaringly public money?
