They both played magnificent solos that were magnificently different from one another. I am more than certain that both guitars were hospitalized after their respective beatings.
i miss Steve soloing like this. nowadays he's all about the weeeeeee ooooooo waaaaaa waaaaaAAAA EEEEEeeeeee uuuuuuuUUUuu iiiiiiii ooooooooooooo EEEEEeeeeee aaaaaaaUUUUUU.
Macalpine is such an amazing shredder, powerful solo! Steve Vai is a colossal genius that changed forever the world of the electric guitar, the minute he starts jamming he turns this tune into a trademark Vai composition, slowly building off chorus after chorus until both bassist & drummer are in a musical frenzy, all in sync and filled with inspiration and enthusiasm! Great video, can’t wait to see Part 2.
Tony used to live in Sebastopol , ca and rented a loft from my best friends Mom... He was insane on guitar, but his piano skills are also unreal... pure genius indeed.
Is 2018 and Vai is already way past his peak. Macalpine is still playing and recording searching for new grounds and experiences. Vai is a great player with a guitar. Tony is the very spirit of the guitar.
I remember my friend from high school, an up and coming musician himself with Tony Macalpine's first album. His hair was much longer then. Wow! What a time and what an era. I miss those times.
HA HA. I just had my boys watch half hour of Vai and VanHalen. Now i'm sending them to bed... they're too pumped to sleep... evil daddy. Great frickin' solos here.
Can only comment on this as seen Steve V live. Tears of Sahara takes me to a place that nothing else has. It's all subjective. Like saying Mac D is better than burger king 😎😎
I love the team Vai vs team tmac camps. Both are monsters. I'd say tony is the better shredder. Vai probably more imaginative with creating soundscapes. He pulling a lot of tricks. I hear some EVH, but also Tom morello and even wes borland. Yeah, I'm serious with the last two. If you wanted a straight up shred fest. No parlor tricks. Tony probably comes out on top.
They couldn't, and I think it was all decided from the start. They wanted someone who was sort of on the same level as Portnoy. Virgil is light years ahead of both.
Those saying macalpine is better than vai need to clean their ears, they both are doing amazing solos but vai plays his own style and macalpine plays a style thats overused by other great guitar players, still great solos though
Seriously? I don't know any better? buddy, I've forgotten more about music than you'll ever learn. Tony Macalpine knows music inside and out..from Bach all the way to modern shredding, and it shows in his playing. If you think his playing is cliche, then that just shows how little you know. Like I said, Vai is a tremendous player, but he's more of a practiced entertainer than a true musical virtuoso.
They both played magnificent solos that were magnificently different from one another. I am more than certain that both guitars were hospitalized after their respective beatings.
rmsolympic1 🤣
i miss Steve soloing like this. nowadays he's all about the weeeeeee ooooooo waaaaaa waaaaaAAAA EEEEEeeeeee uuuuuuuUUUuu iiiiiiii ooooooooooooo EEEEEeeeeee aaaaaaaUUUUUU.
Probably because he's getting older and can't shred like he used to
He didn't Shred but he could Shred. There are plenty of fast passages in some of his music.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Steve vai is still very musical and technical these days. Probably you just watching short clips of those UU WEEEE UII UII...WEEE EEEE
This was an awesome treat. Very hot that day. I can still feel the sun burn. ;)

i can't get enough of macalpines solo...
Are you Steve Vai? :)

Tony used to live in Sebastopol , ca and rented a loft from my best friends Mom... He was insane on guitar, but his piano skills are also unreal... pure genius indeed.
Wow, cool. I'm jealous. Yeah, he always plays classical piano on his albums. Amazing!!
Is 2018 and Vai is already way past his peak. Macalpine is still playing and recording searching for new grounds and experiences. Vai is a great player with a guitar. Tony is the very spirit of the guitar.
Beside the music... Tony wears our national soccer team!!! Now I love you more hehe Greets from Buenos Aires!
I remember my friend from high school, an up and coming musician himself with Tony Macalpine's first album. His hair was much longer then. Wow! What a time and what an era. I miss those times.
The golden (and hair-headed) era
HA HA. I just had my boys watch half hour of Vai and VanHalen. Now i'm sending them to bed... they're too pumped to sleep... evil daddy.

Tony takes it to another level, I haven't seen Steve Vai take it any further since the solo in Crossroads 1986
I really dig the way MacAlpine uses outside notes

One of the first Shrapnel Records guys. Check out Edge of Insanity and he just put out a new album today. Incredible pianist as well!
Steve play's his self...Macalpine play's any style...the way it should be with a injection of his-self.

Everyone in this line up is BOSS!
This song is called "Stratus" off of Billy Cobham's "Spectrum" record.
Can only comment on this as seen Steve V live. Tears of Sahara takes me to a place that nothing else has. It's all subjective. Like saying Mac D is better than burger king 😎😎

Take away Steve Vai's whammy bar and squeals and he is nothing special compared to Tony
@@AlexOjideagu2 T Mac ain't doing anything earth shattering; sounds like a million other shredders.

8:45 the look on Steve s face hand over head says " whew I got out of that one"
Mcalpine is insane, and puts down notes effortlessly. But I think Vai is just more fluid. Both badass. Just a matter of opinion 😬
Go Bunny! the best bass player!
You need to check out his solo career, he has over a dozen cd's out.

You think Tony's great, and he is, but Vai is just on a whole other level.
Ha! Love that. I know what you're talking about.
I love the team Vai vs team tmac camps.
Both are monsters. I'd say tony is the better shredder. Vai probably more imaginative with creating soundscapes. He pulling a lot of tricks. I hear some EVH, but also Tom morello and even wes borland. Yeah, I'm serious with the last two.

macalpine is good, vai is a different story.
C A L A I U TA !!!!!!! Z BST
No way in my opinion, tony played fast and that blues was sick but Vai just put so much emotion in his shit it was retarded he came like 4 times
