      I sobbed when Viserys called Rhaenyra his only child🥹 Even tho he probably loves Alicent’s kids too, Aemma was his true love🤍

      Aemond is so far my favourite character! although i cried when Vhaegar killed luke, I still want to believe that Aemond didn’t kill him intentionally. Yes his face was shocking when he realised what he did, but he was worried not because he killed his nephew, but because he just kickstarted the BIGGEST WAR

    If you want to see Aemonds actor in another period Role check out seasons 3-5 of the Last Kingdom here he has a large supporting role as as a runaway Anglo Saxon novice that becomes a key member of the main character's(a Anglo Saxon Alderman, what we know call a Earl) military retinue. His character is the complete opposite of Aemond On the Last Kingdom, a kind, earnest endearing boy who is nicknamed a baby Monk by his Lords other men.

    There is a theory about why Helaena wears other colors instead of the green of her family, and why she why she specifically wears blue at the coronation. In the book there is a slight hint/rumor that her and Aemond have a thing going on, also that her kids might be Aemonds and not Aegons. with Aemond losing an eye he puts the blue sapphire inside hence taking the color and making it his own,and making his own branch of the Targaryen family with the color blue. She could be showing her allegiance and support the the brother she actually have feelings for over the one she was forced to marry.

      Thanks for sharing this! I actually recently got the book because i read it ages ago when i was in high school and the tv show really got me in the mood for rereading it - i'll be on the lookout for any details like this when i do :)

    DoubletS first started appearing in the 14th century around the 1380's. They are a everyday wear version of the padded garments worn under plate armor known variously as Gambesons, Aketons, and asking jackets.

    I really loved the victorian-looking leather coat of Aemond in the last episode. The coat, the eye-patch, sapphire eye… its all perfection💎

    Another outstanding treatment on your part. Very much enjoyed the shots of historical exemplars to tie in various influences. We greatly appreciate how you slow things down and show us why a scene works because of costumes we may only see in passing, or generally don’t appreciate
    I was lauding your show to one of my kids home on break from college which led to our discussing your possible background. Your English is so good, such as vocabulary and ability to quickly turn phrases, I suggested an education at least partially in the UK or North America. But my son opined, “maybe she’s just really smart, certainly sounds it”.

      thank you for this lovely comment! as for my background, i haven't yet had the chance to visit any english speaking country, but i like to joke that i was raised by lord of the rings and harry potter. these were some of the first movies i ever saw in english and i do think that this exposure to english from an early age certainly had some influence on my pronunciation :)

    Alicant's sleeve is probably supposed to be Myrish lace, as that is mentioned frequently throughout ASOIF as a sheer fabric.

    I enjoyed this video. In all honestly this not the sort of video I normally watch, but I do enjoy yours. The costume's had a lot of care taken with them.

    Anyone notice that Helaena wears green far less often than the rest of her family? She only wears green during Laena Velaryon’s funeral, the rest of her screen time, she wears pink, mustard/gold/yellow, and blue.

  • @kierademian4855
    @kierademian4855 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think Helaena wears blue to the coronation in honor of her dragon dreamfyre which is said to have light blue scales

    I loved Aemond's writing and acting, too! I am fascinated to see what his reaction meant at the end of his dance with Jacerys.
    Was he just upset that Vhaegar killed another flying-age dragon? Or was he not intending to get into a deadly fight with his nephew and actually upset about Jacerys? Did he realize the implications of the moment and what it would lead to? So many questions!

    • @LanaMarie
      @LanaMarie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep! i think that having the whole thing play out more like an accident was a very clever way of adding more layers to the characters and it makes the entire situation all the more tragic! i'm really looking forward to season 2 too!

      @@LanaMarie And it also felt like a perfect example of the idea that they really don't have control over the dragons. Arrax chose to attack Vhagar, and Vhagar chose to kill Arrax in response, both explicitly against the commands of their riders.

    Hey I'm not sure if you'll read this comment. But my guess as to why Helaena might be wearing blue colors is simply for more variation purposes? This is a bit of a stretch but High Valyrian is one of the languages that do not have a separate word for green and blue and that word is Kastra. You distinguish what green and blue is based on the context clues of the sentence. So Helaena wearing blue may be a callback to when Alicent was in her younger days wearing blue instead of a definite green. And even some of her gowns straddle the line between blue and green based on the lighting. She may not approve of what her house is doing but she may need to at least keep some of the peace so she wears the blue gown as a compromise. Technically still wearing a Kastra color but in Westerosi terms she is wearing an entirely separate color.

      i think i missed the window for full reviews of hotd, but i did decide to condense the costume reviews into these two-part videos. however i am working on a comparative character analysis that will hopefully be done at some point in the near future. many ideas, but little time haha.

    You didn't mention the wedding costumes of Rhaenyra and Daemon (episode 7 I suppose), which are pretty oustanding for tbe rest of the costumes in the show
    What do you think about them? Are they good, or so bad, you decided not to talk about them? 😁

    • @LanaMarie
      @LanaMarie  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      they're pretty interesting, but i couldn't find many angles or good pictures of the costumes to see them in detail, that's why i skipped them.
