I have only come this far in a year because of the Good Lord's help! I've enjoyed every minute learning this wonderful instrument, and I can't wait to see the progress I'll make in the coming year! EDIT: I've been playing for two years now!! I've had the chance to play with some awesome musicians, and I've learned so many more songs and techniques! I even had the privilege to play on live television! You can check out my channel for more videos!
Just watched this video for the first time. So great to see your progress. You're doing great! I hope to have the strength to go further as well. And great to see that you let the Good Lord help you. I'm not raised religious, but my wife is. But I'm kind of searching my way into this. Maybe it will come, I've done some tries to feel it, but so far it didn't succeed. I keep hoping. Cheers to you, Elisabeth!
Maybe you've noticed my proposal for getting in touch. I can imagine that it's not easy. I'm a normal guy, married and I have a couple of friends, e.g. in Canada. It should be so great being able to be in contact with a 'collegue' banjo player. You're way ahead of me, inspiring and dedicated. Hope you'll see my message on your channels community. Have a nice day, Elisabeth!
Hello! Thanks for the comments. I've been playing a little over two years now, and I've learned so much since I posted this video. If you have any questions about the banjo, you can email me at elisabethemory25@gmail.com I'd be happy to help you on your banjo journey. I also post some instructional videos here on my TH-cam channel. Feel free to check those out! Have a Merry Christmas.
What brand and model banjo
@waynegay8774 I'm playing two in the video. One is a Gibson Mastertone RB-250 and the other is a Recording King RK-35 Madison
I started years ago with a right-handed Gibson RB250, After about 6 months, I quit because I realized I'd never have the speed I needed in my right picking hand. Just bought a
custom-made left-hand Steling White Star after seeing your 1 year (left handed) progress.
Thanks for re-inspiring me. God Bless.
LOL clinch mountain backstreet!! 😂😂love it!!
😂😂😂
Thats personal determination. Lots of practice and you have come a long way. You were determined to learn and you did. This was all you.
I'm a self taught blues harmonica player, the good Lord gave me the desire and talent, God bless you ❤
That's awesome! 🙌😄
Anything is possible with the LORD. GREAT PICKING FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.
Awesome progress, keep up the good work, good solid bluegrass! Looking forward to future videos, keep praising the Lord and press on!🕊️😊
Thank you so much!!
That's awesome. Sounds good. One of my favorite instruments to listen to. I have a banjo a friend gave me years ago. Couldn't play it then but now that I'm sober I will give it a try.
Thank you for the encouragement.
Wonderful! This gives me hope!
Thank you!! I'm glad. :) Thanks for watching!
Proud is an understatement here
Super cool! Thanks for sharing.
You're Welcome!! Thanks!
i personally have had less time on guitar and i will tell you the good lord as set a gift to me... ive recently got a banjo i havent started trying to play yet i just always wanted one but thats 100% my next stringed instrument to learn
That is totally awesome!! 🙌😄 A big tip for playing banjo is, don't rush it. The speed will come later...accuracy and timing are much more important! Which is something I had to learn over time. But the number one tip I have for playing any instrument is to HAVE FUN!! 😁👍 God bless you, and keep picking!
Good job Young lady I play the banjo myself. I started in 1974. Keep up the good work you’re doing great And the Lord will help you
That's awesome! Thank you so much for the kind words. God bless!
Hi, I’ve been watching your progress which is great! I’m 2 months in on learning banjo using tabs but my speed just isn’t there yet. Hoping that will improve over time naturally.
Hey! That's awesome! So, the key is patience and practice. For the speed on the right hand, I would suggest really getting comfortable with your roll patterns. Once you've memorized those, start using them with a metronome and gradually build speed until you're comfortable. It really just takes time and dedication. Keep on pickin!! 🪕😊
Way to go.
Awesome 👍🏻
Lots of respect really amazing!! I'll just started out 2 days ago and I love it!! thnx for the great content!!😊
You have youth on your side, continue having fun and inspiration from what God has given you.
Thank you! 🙏❤️
We never stop learning, no matter our age. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. I'm nearly 46, and just started!
I started really trying to learn the banjo a year ago also. Self taught using books and TH-cam vids. I have really seen the most improvement the last month or two. Very fun
@@rugrboutdoors2491 That's awesome! Keep on pickin'! 🪕:)
Amen
Ótima evolução!!! Uau!!! Lindo!!🎉 parabéns!! Nada como ver um esforço recompensado!!!

I play guitar and I just borrowed my cousin's banjo today and started learning how to play it
That's awesome!! Keep it up! I'm posting some banjo lesson material on my channel. God bless
I'm building 3 banjos right now from parts acquired from eBay. I already have 2 Irish tenor banjos that I play now. God bless and good luck! I'm a 71 year old disabled veteran and can only watch so much TV. lol
That's really cool! Thank you so much! ❤️ Also, thank you for your service. 🙏
I love you ❤
Elizabeth is my sister praise god amen

Fantastic progress, you really smashed it

You're really progressing nicely on your banjo journey. Well done, Elisabeth!
Thank you so much!! God bless you! 🙏❤️
Your a natural. Well done.
Thank you!
Great progress in just a year. Bravo
Thanks!
You sound great! Very impressive progress.
Thank you!! ❤️
Amazing progress! Congratulations.
Thank you James!!!
One banjo song I find myself coming back to all the time is the old gospel song "Uncloudy Day". Tons of opportunities for hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides. It also lends itself to lots of melodic licks.
Oh that's a good one! It's actually on my list of songs to work on! Thanks! 😊
you did the work well done fantastic !
Thank you so much!
Well done Elizabeth.
Thank you!
lol, I am starting to learn, after watching my father play for decades. You have definitely came a long way.
That's awesome! Thank you!
Very good progress for one year! I should find some Bluegrass music to play along with 😁
My name is Steven and I'm thinking of learning to play the Banjo, Left-handed? As a baby of 22 months old I had a accident with a electric fire and my left hand was practically destroyed, I have used of my thumb and two fingers, it would be difficult for me but I'm thinking of having a go.. I think you play fantastic.
Hello Steven! First off, I'm so sorry to hear that...and no, I am not left-handed. That is just a reversed image from filming with my smartphone. I've been playing for over two years now! The banjo I'm playing is actually signed by a Grammy winning banjoist, Barry Abernathy. He plays with a band called Appalachian Roadshow. He has no fingers on his left hand...only a thumb. He's one of the best banjo players I've ever heard! You've got this Steven! God bless you. 🙏♥️🪕

@@elisabethemory Thank you!
Well done you who is loved by such a loving God and blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus
With his spirit to help you what more do you need sister . You play very well indeed I also play the Irish tenor banjo. And am a believer in Christ you deserve my subscription ❤❤️❤️👑
Thank you so much! ❤️ That's awesome...God bless you, and Merry Christmas!🪕🎄
Absolutely brilliant
Thank you so much!!
Neat video! I hadn’t seen the one of Lonesome Road Blues…! Definitely have carved yourself a niche… you are doing really amazingly well and I can’t wait to hear you progress further… you will only get better and better!👏👍
Aww, such encouraging words!! Thank you soooo much! I haven't finished learning "Lonesome Road Blues"...I just learned the high part. 😂 But I'll get around to it sometime. Lol Also, yes, I sure pray so! God bless you! 😊
the beatbox video went so hard that i think im gonna have to buy a banjo now! i'll post a video when i learn my first song
Hahaha, I'm glad you liked it! 😂 Comment on this video again if you end up buying one! I'd love to know...God bless
Excellent to see another left handed picker. After many right handed teachers that did not get it i finally taught myself. Been picking for close to 20 years now. Good for you and thanks for the posting.
Sounds good
I've just started yesterday... really struggled! Found this really encouraging!😊
I'm glad this encouraged you! Don't give up, keep going! ;) I post some tutorials, but some of the channels that helped me get started are, Jim Pankey, William Nesbitt, and Willow Osborne! Hope this helps! God bless. ❤️
Thank you. I'll look them up. 😊❤
Hey, here is a brother in Christ from Germany 👍🏻
Keep the faith and keep on playing!
Thank you! Amen! ♥️🙌
I am in a very similar position to you. I am self taught, and it seems that I watched the same videos you did. I have been playing for a year and half now, I wish I had filmed my journey like you did.
Awesome! I've been playing for two years now! Keep pickin'!! God bless
Well done. I'm 56 and wanted to learn to play and am exploring doing so. I think I will commit to it in the next month and buy a banjo and jump in. You're an inspiration.
You should!! It just takes a lot of practice and patience, but it's worth it in the end! Thank you so much...God bless you!
👍🏻👏
subscribed to see how its going. Seems you are doing great. I hope I can stay with it to get that good.
Thanks for subscribing! ❤️🪕
Awesome! Just got my fender banjo couple weeks ago. I still can't play for shit but thanx for the inspiration!
You'll get there!! Just keep it up! Have you looked up Jim Pankey before? He's a good banjo teacher. So is William Nesbitt, Willow Osborne, and there's many more! I myself have some how-to beginner banjo lesson videos. God bless!
AMAZING!!!! I love how you do it for the Lord, that’s the way to go!!!!!! Great Inspiration right there!!!!!
Aww, thank you!!! I still feel like I haven't come super far after watching your videos...😅😂 You're crazy good!
Amazing progress! I was on the fence about getting a banjo to learn how to play for a very long time.
I had been watching a bunch of videos of people playing different songs, lessons, and so on, but I stumbled onto your video and I think being able to see the actual real progress you made in a short amount of time made me really take the leap.
I’m about a week and a half into it, and I just finished learning Cripple Creek. The feeling of accomplishment is overwhelming!
So I just want to say thank you for being an inspiration and motivator, and I hope you keep up your progress and playing. Take care.
That's so exciting to hear!! How's it going for you? Also, thank you!! I've been playing for a little over two years now. 🪕😄
That was great and thank you for sharing. Hope you're still pickin and I like Jesus Hold My Hand
Thank you!! This month has marked two years of me playing! I've learned a lot since I posted this video. I'm actually playing in a band with my family, and we just pretty recently went on television. Some of the videos are here on my channel. Thank you, and God bless!❤️
You know few more songs than me. I'm at 9 months now and playing clawhammer versions to most songs. I love cripple creek and man of constant sorrow
Keep going. You've built a list of times in a year but focus on perfecting three instead of increasing your list of tunes. We all get excited but time to focus on perfecting or you'll increase songs instead of better playing. Always start a new tune slow and build up, don't hurry, perfect it. If you haven't purchased a banjo ,ute yet, consider it a life saver or armor of God for the banjo.
The good lord has turned you into a fine player 👍🇬🇧
Thank you so much! God bless you!
Oh wow! You've come a long way in just a year! Makes me wish I had stuck to banjo...😁🤣
Thanks! You should have! It's never too late though....
@@elisabethemory true, true.
I just started learning banjo! That's impressive progress over a year! How many hours did you put in each week? Looking to see what I should aim for.
Hey!! Well....I'm not sure exactly how many hours I practiced a day, but I'd say around 30 minutes to an hour. Whatever you can squeeze in. But some days it's only 5 minutes, and some days I don't even pick it up. It's important to avoid getting "burnt out" on it. I have some beginner friendly lessons here on my channel if you'd like to check those out. I also recommend Jim Pankey, and William Nesbitt for more lessons!! God bless, and thanks for the comment!
I'm amazed at how much progress you made in a short time. Keep it up! Hope to jam with you someday ☺️
Thank you so much!!! I've enjoyed every minute learning this amazing instrument...and I give all credit to the Lord! Also, I would LOVE to jam with you sometime!
U already knew the fingerpickibg style or learnt it in 2 weeks? Pls upload slow tutorials on how to fingerpick a Banjo
awelsome progress. What was the name of the last music that you played?
Thanks!! That was "I'll Always Be A Gypsy" by the band Sideline! It's one of my favorites!
That's so awesome! I only found your channel in the last month or two. You play so well that I just assumed (subconsciously- I've never actually consciously thought about it) that it's been part of your skill set for most of your life. The fact that you're self (and Holy Spirit) taught and that you've only been playing for a year speaks volumes! God has truly blessed you, your banjo skills are amazingly beautiful and so natural.... 🪕🪕🪕
In addition, I must also thank you for posting this. You would think that as a Christian, I would have thought to ask Him for help as well, but it just never occurred to me. I have a guitar that I bought awhile ago (6-8 months). I learned it about 12 years ago, but only enough to play a few songs from the lesson book/DVD I used to learn it. I have long since forgotten everything. Now I'm ready to learn again, but hopefully I will go much further this time. 🎸🎸🎸 (This is the only guitar emoji I have, but I'm actually trying to play acoustic).🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Thank you so much! I appreciate all the kind words....🙏😊 My family and I have always been involved in music, my entire family sings, and plays instruments...but I just recently decided that I'd give an instrument a go! Lol and I'm so glad I did!
Also, I know you can do it!!! Philippians 4:13 says "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Here's another verse that you can apply to learning!
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Thanks for always being so supportive and kind! God bless, and happy pickin'!!!!
@@elisabethemory Amen sister! Thank you so much for the encouraging words and the Scriptures to back them up. Much appreciated! 🙂🙂🙂
Wow! I need to get off my butt and practice. I can't believe how fast you got to where you are. Are you playing left-handed or is that just the way the camera records? Peace and love.
Haha, it's just a matter of making time to do it! Thank you so much! Also, no, I'm not left handed, it's just the camera. :)
You’re starting out right. No bad habits to unlearn.
You have a talent...for practicing, the only way to get where you got! You just did it really fast but dang, you're good!
Thank you Erick! I've been playing for almost two years now! TH-cam, practice, and help from God are what helped me learn so quickly! Thanks for watching. 😄🪕
So how’s the journey another year later
Just having a lot of fun!! I've gotten to play on live television, and play with some cool people at Dollywood! I'm playing in a band with my family right now, but still learning new things and techniques every day! Thanks for asking. :) God bless you!
Daym. Ok!
Omg!!! Wonderful job. Where are you learning from? TH-cam videos? You’ve been playing less time than me and I’m not as good as you. Congratulations young lady.
Thank you!! I've been playing for two years now. :) The channels, Jim Pankey, William Nesbitt, and Willow Osborne really helped me when I first started out. Thanks for watching! God bless, and keep pickin!! ❤️
Great , when you started how often did you practice ?
Well maybe I should try left handed, you doing great, appreciate your faith as well,I been trying off and on for 30 years, promised my grandpa I try and learn, maybe someday, you keep up the good work,Keith Urban was asked one time why he doesn't play the bango? He said he wasn't talented enough, that ought to tell you how much success your having,God Bless You
Keep it up!! 🙌🪕 Thank you so much...and may Jesus bless you!
Is that a Deering Sierra left handed banjo that you are picking? I’ve had 3 Deering left hand banjos and love them all. My present is my Sierra and for my money this is the best value on the market. Plays and sounds excellent. I keep the drum head adjusted for optimum sound. Invest in a drum head dial if you don’t have one yet. Thanks again for your postings.
Where did you find all of your tabs?
I actually play by ear! I don't read tab. But Jim Pankey, William Nesbitt, Willow Osborne, Eli Gilbert has good videos with tabs on their patron pages!
Could you ask the holy spirit to loan me 10 bucks?
Seriously, well-done on your progress so far.
Jesus was a helluva picker!
Did you play any instrument before?
Just playing a few chords on the piano...but that's all. 😊
@@elisabethemory wooow that's really impressive
@@nillass1 Thank you ❤️🙏
It’s right and proper to give God the credit, but I don’t think He just handed you the ability to excel on the banjo. You’ve obviously put in many hours of work to get where you are. What God gave you was the ability to persevere and not quit. Anyway…it’s pretty cool to see your progress over the past year.👏👏
You lost me at the clinch mountain backstreet part
That was meant to be humorous...
Did you even finish the video?
@@elisabethemory nope. As a grandkid of one of the clinch mountain boys you lost me with the backstreet mix
@JohnDoeDeadhead420 But I got WAY better in the next few videos. 😂 Also, I play Clinch Mountain Backstep the original way now. I've been playing for over two years since I made this video. Lol
@@elisabethemory I totally believe that you have gotten way better. I can def see the progress in this video. I'll def check out your other videos, but please in the future try to refrain from mashing up backstreet boys with clinch, Ralph stanley doc/Merle/Richard//gene Watson. It's a small world and family sees that kind of stuff and it's cringe. Plus there are way better types of beats and or bands to mash together with clinch.
Literally anything besides boy bands/justin Bieber/etc. Hahap
My moms name was Elizabeth Emody. Funny eh?
Cool!!
Do you know what a tuner is sis?
Did you watch the entire video? I didn't really know how to tune my banjo accurately when I first started. But then I bought a tuner, and you see that I was, for the most part, in tune on the last few songs. But, a banjo never really does stay in tune. So yeah lol
