    The stillness and quietness of that lake is both beautiful & eerie. The eeriness is increased by the weird safe, the lack of fish, (except that one & few minnows), all the fallen trees (including the chunk of wood that looked liked a face) and the crazy rock that looked carved. However it is beautiful and the overall shot at the beginning reminded me of Donner Lake, which a beautiful lake itself. Great dive Mark, thanks for inviting us along.

      There are quite a few fish however they were always leaving as I was arriving. High Altitude lakes often do not have the concentrations of fish that closer to sea level lakes do. On my first dives after winter in these lakes I will sometimes see many dead fish, it is my understanding this is due to low oxygen levels during winter. The mountain that runs right into one side of the lake looks like the bottom of the lake, So the rocks are reflective of the terrain that surrounds the lake, I believe this lake is glacier cut.

    • @iannidd
      @iannidd ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oligotrophic high elevation lakes are usually like that. Very little nutrient input hence the barren bottom. In addition to that, coniferous forests create an acidic environment due to their constitution and chemistry. See all the logs and pine cones at the bottom?. Most of the exposed bedrock in the high Sierra is granite, which is slowly weathered and does not chemically balance out the pH: lacking high amounts of Ca like limestone or other sedimentary rocks.

    That is a beautiful looking area around that lake, an the water there seems pretty clean. ( glad you explained potable ) I'm guessing they must have dammed up the area to make that lake. So many good sized trees down there, they look like pine trees. They look to be mostly solid wood, surprised people don't retrieve them to make rustic furniture or something out of. And, that box had more than rocks in it, I’ll bet. The rocks were there to hold it down. Almost NO one would throw a (whatever that was made of) box of rocks into the middle of a lake. Also, I bet those trees with the broken off and sharpened branches have an interesting story. Great dive. Thanks!

    Dude I am so glad you are back missed your videos man ! This made me very happy ! How do you keep from over staying your dive time? I could see cruising along with your motor and going deep and shallow and not paying attention and over staying your dive time. You ever have to do a decompress ? Good to see you back man !

    • @mokpot
      @mokpot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man! I keep from overstaying my time by planning my dive, setting limits, carefully watching times, depths and air supply. Every dive requires decompression although not always in the water... This dive did not require a decompression "hang time" in the water, but I will always spend 5-10 minutes between 10 and 20 feet deep as a safety stop to off gas nitrogen that builds up in your bloodstream. I never want to get hurt doing something so amazing and fun.

      @@mokpot Good to know I blew off the dust off my old dive manuals when I got my cert back in the 80s and started studying it again. I know I cant put on equipment now I need to get my recert there is no way I would put on gear now. I have a lot of weight to get off man have I packed it on before I even think about getting my cert. Yeah you dont want to get narked its a long ways to a decompression tank. I do want to get back into there are good deals on dive gear out there and yes I know what you are going to say if I get a regulator and other gear I will have it inspected,. I got to get out and start living again been in a very deep rut for a long time. I understand your love for it even though its been a very long long time for me it was a rush ! Good to see you back man stay safe and keep those decomps going during your dives

      The temps vary throughout the year. A month ago, the surface was mid 60s , below the first thermocline (approx. 20 feet) high 50s.F Maximum depth on this dive was about 60 feet. The DPV (diver propulsion device) is a Genesis 2 , web search Genesis DPV
