My grandfather Rupert owned Evergreen Valley Ski Resort and the chalet for 7 years. So I have spent many days and nights at the chalet. At the beginning of the dirt road leading to the Chalet there is a cabin on the right. Walk into the woods to the right of that cabin and you will see his gravestone about 30 yards away and maybe 20 yd from the road. It's like a private cemetery with just Him in it.

Honestly that is absolutely cool. We own a very famous restaurant and had literally hundreds of movies, music videos and photos shot there. Sometimes you don’t realize how lucky we are to be part of history.

That is the coolest abandon Cabin i have ever seen. The Swiss style works so well in cold places and was quite sofisticated for the era.

Whomever broke all those windows are evil. That will destroy the house in no time. I hope she told the historical society so that they could fix it since they own it. Peace be with you. I would love to own that property for the peaceful serenity. All the nature surrounding the house is amazing.

In Europe, sinks in bedrooms seem standard with shared bath down hallway. Everything really is in amazing conditions considering the year built, open to elements. I wonder how he got it built. Not really a basement when it's all windows. Probably my favorite part of the house.

He helped my grandfather emigrate (sneak) in America in 1943, my grandfather was an SS commander, he helped him move to Maine as a "polish" immigrant.. of course he was german actually, our family still lives in maine to this day, myself included.

It is sacrilege to allow such a beautiful piece of historical property to decay so much for lack of care. Nature will surely reclaim it as is evident from your tour. It's gorgeous & needs to be taken care of . I understand it's expensive and toiling but that's the cost of posterity. People need to see, experience such treasures for real to appreciate them for what they are. I am curious , who owns this estate property now ? Can it be acquired for preservation ? What's current status of it & what if any are future plans for it ? It is surely very unique, and deserves a better future than what I see occurring now. Tks for this most informative video tour.

Sad to see this workmanship go to ruin.. what kind of society just lets a place go to rot. Especially considering the construction and the use of a local stream for generating electricity…I am not going to watch this any further…it’s too disturbing something this beautiful and back then so ahead of its time for off grid or vacation living.

I'm not sure what happens if no one is taking care of something like this. It's absolutely a shame to do nothing with a place like this.

York Maine/ cape Reddick had one very similar on top of Mt agamenticus . Tiny ski operation in early 70s. It was beautiful. Too hike around the old trails and look at the chalet was extremely fun , gratifying. People lived there. Was used for functions . But fell into disrepair I believe. Been years since I've been there. But worth checking out. Old Indian lore , the view amazing..can actually catch glimpse of Mt Washington on very clear days. But surrounding communities like wells , Ogunquit , York , kittery. Portsmouth etc. Used to be a fire tower you could climb. Like all the great things. " they " find a reason to tear it down or prohibit it ..who are these people I just wanted to be enjoying..lol. unfortunately true though.

There's an old ski resort overlooking moosehead lake on big moose mountain, formerly big squaw mountain. There was talk of opening it up again but don't know what happened! Use to be able to drive right up to the hotel by the ski lifts but they have rocks blocking the road now! Always kinda reminded me of the hotel in the movie , the shining ! Always wanted to walk around inside of the place but that would have been breaking and entering! Beautiful view of the area once you get up there! Anybody know what they are doing with ski resort lately?

I am heading a project to begin identifying old gravesites in my local area. I am in a master's of history program at the local college. I would be interested to hear more about the gravesite of Roy C. Wilhelm, and if you need any friends to assist you in the footwork it takes to find and identify the gravesite I would be willing to help. Locally, we will be identifying old gravestones in known graveyards and matching them up to historical records of deaths in the area. When we find that we have not found all of the gravesites that should be found in the main graveyards, we will begin the process of finding the "lost" gravesites, or in other words those sites that are probably hidden on private properties and we will need to attempt to find some of them that are buried on private properties but still have headstones. Beyond that, finding the graves of the folks who were buried without gravestones is highly unlikely but would definitely make for a great story. Anyways, good luck out there in Maine, that site is massive! And epic! Keep searching for lost history, thanks for the videos!

My parents were talked into a time share and took a loss, this place was never going to be Sunday River or Sugarloaf, someone with a plan in reality would of known this, buy the property, tear down everything but this lodge and turn it into getaway for weekenders with money and maybe one day you’ll break a profit
