I feel like the try wives, try mom's and even the try crew did their best to tackle different beauty topics creatively and even to the point of sharing their own insecurities without actually needing to, just to show transparency and relatability to other women. I don't really see how them being glammed up...for a video and a photoshoot once in a while is showing unrealistic beauty ideals?

    • @Mikibear222

@@panicko6402 I see your point, but it’s not once in a while, it’s pretty much every video the women have been in. Sexy lingerie, spa days, hair makeovers, glam photo shoots. There are other things that would be much more empowering without the sole focus of the video being about their appearance (despite them publicly airing out their insecurities).
I would find it way more entertaining to see the girls learn something new and make it more educational than “here’s a team to make us look pretty” try a makeup free photoshoot, style each other, dress masc or like drag kings, challenge the standard female beauty ideals, anything! The lack of body diversity also bothers me - where are the curvy girls in their team? Why aren’t they included in any of these videos?

I live in an asian country so forgive me if im wrong but from articles and interviews, it seems to me that a lot of actresses and models arent given hairstylists that can work with their hair type (like the best friend of vanessa hudgens in hsm) so their hair isn't taken care of in the same quality of their white counterparts

Ik this is random, but rod ortegas story abt getting the fashion magazines at thrifty when he was a young queer boy reminded me so much of nigel from the devil wears prada when he would say that as a young boy the fashion magazines gave him hope to be a part of that world when it was clear where he grew up it was discouraged for boys to be feminine or into fashion. when rod said that his dad would drop him off at school but he would turn around and take a bus to LA, it reminded me of when nigel said he would pretend to go to soccer practice but then actually secretly go to sewing class....idk just thought his story was inspiring and couldn’t help but notice how much it resembled one of my fave movies :))

as a black girl, kaylin’s story resonated with me on a different level. growing up, my mom was brought up in a time where straight hair was ‘trendy’, and to be a black girl with long, straight hair was peak. i lived a very long portion of my life not knowing what the natural texture of my hair was! (my mom had used what was advertised a ‘texturizer’ on my hair when i was 4, because at the time she found my hair difficult to manage at the time since it was thicker than her own & a completely different texture. ended up being a relaxer. she ended up integrated texturizes into my haircare routine for most of my childhood years, and then moving into full-on, intensive relaxers.) now, i’m 19, and my mom has been natural for 4 years. i’m coming up on my second year. where her natural journey was more intentional, mine was completely accidental. i was moving more into protective styles, and now it’s gotten to the point where i haven’t used a relaxer in about 2 years. even though the my relaxed hair hasn’t fully grown out, there’s still so much progress. i went nearly 18 years without knowing that i have my mother’s curl pattern, with the thickness of my father’s hair. it moved me to tears when i first saw my natural curls, because all i could think was how i love my natural hair so much. my mom is thinking of doing the big chop in order to completely be rid of what’s left of her relaxed hair. i’m more content with just watching mine grow out. i’m fascinated by watching my hair change textures in real time. it just reaffirms my desire to completely swear off relaxing my hair. to my fellow black beauties-know that there’s no right or wrong way to care for your hair. if you feel that relaxing your hair is right for you, by all means-i commend you! don’t let anyone shame you for it; style your hair however you wish! and to my natural hair girlies-whether you’re transitioning or all-natural-just know that your hair is beautiful, regardless of curl pattern or curl definition. and if you’re considering going natural, i definitely recommend it! even if you aren’t initially fond of your hair in it’s transitioning stage, just remember that there’s no harm in protective styles! i’m notorious for them in the summer/spring because the heat makes my hair a (lovable) nightmare to manage 💀 (also, pro-tip, if you’re worried abt length, or just wanting to speed up the transition, find a natural style that boosts your hair growth! i’m always partial to braids because my hair takes to them so well, and always grows so much faster compared to when i do things like blowouts or sew-ins.) sorry for the rambling, i just love seeing other black girls embracing their hair, no matter what form!

I loved hearing Kaylin talk about her struggle with long hair and moving to natural in adulthood. I grew up Hispanic with very curly hair and had a similar experience of constantly straining it and using perms to fit in a little better in my small Texas town. Everyone in my school has such straight blonde hair and I hated mine. When I got to college I just cut all my damaged hair off, got a pixie, and really started to love returning to such a natural feel and grew to love playing with my hair.
