These guys are too badass to stop playing. Last year (2020) I just came across a brand new dvd-audio disc of “In Absentia” at a estate sale and I’ve been hooked ever since! Their music is incredible but to hear it in 5.1 surround takes it to a higher level!! You’d think a 17+ minute tune from ANY artist other than Rush would be boring but Anesthetize from “Fear Of A Blank Planet” is off the hook! They rail on that tune!!

Yeah but the drums can definitely be heard as a 7/8+9/8 division of 16 to make the 4/4. Also the heavy guitar part is clearly a 3+3+3+3+4 further emphasizing the 7/9 split of the 4/4. A good example of technique to put a more complex twist to a ‘normal’ time signature is Tool’s 46&2’s main riff that does the same 7+9 to make 4 count and Schism’s main riff making 5+7 into a 6 count But what’s normal now, anyhow?
What Steven did with the guitar sound there with what sounds like different EQs filters and pannings interchanging and overlapping is absolutely genius!! I think you can really appreciate it in headphones. Sounds nuts.

LMAO this group is a modern day Pink Floyd with a bit of cosmic dust thrown in. By FAR MY FAVORITE DRUMMER, as a drummer , I am just in heaven listening to his of beat grooves and odd time signatures. ROK ON GAVIN

Why do you have to comment on things you don't understand? Anyone who equates PT songs to TOOL is a complete tool and blunt enough to not know the difference. Did you even hear Vicarious? Distortion, solo guitar pieces, the bass and the snare sounds are way more pronounced, vocals are aggressive. This song has none of that. The drum and other sounds are way more subtler and balanced. Completely different feel and mood.
Finally, one of my favorite band gets a decent chanel here, i really hope the rumors about a new album are true, Steve Wilson & Co never makes anything boring
This was my favorite track off PT's last album! I miss Porcupine Tree SO MUCH! I found another PT thankfully.... the Pineapple Thief.... and Gavin Harrison is now their drummer
I like Steven because he is not afraid to push the boundaries always on the edge of funky and creative sometimes I think from some people's perspectives a little jarring at times but you all like listening the same thing over and over I don't get that vibe from him and that's what I like about him right on great drummer sounds like he knows what he's doing to me..

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Steven is one of the greatest musicians of the last 25 years.
And Gavin, their drummer, it was his drum pattern that he presented to the band first, and this is what they all came up with. Outstanding.
