When you are sharing with us your improvements are never boring.. Thank you for takimg time from your working to turn on your cameras... That's how we learn..
Lol! "Level... r somethin like that." That cracked me up! I remember when I was told about a fancy thing called a screwdriver. That sure saved my butter knives. :) thanks for all the videos!
Great video. ..I'm in California and a beginner at trying to be more self sufficient and your videos are an inspiration to us regular ol dudes. I'm not a n expert is now my favorite quote. God bless you and your family.
Please do not degrade your self with the work you have done. Worked when you needed it and worked for a long time.!! LOL!! Howie Knows!! You should be very happy with yourself and the pen. I think you do a wonderful job at what you do. Thank You for Sharing all you do. Hugs 2 U and the Family!!
Hi john nice job looks good the birds look nice hope you have a good year on the eggs ! & nice gate when we had birds we had big gates to take tillers & lawnmowers in and out for cleanup and planting grass & milo ! and you have to look out for that tricky wire ! LOL have a great day take care god bless !
LOVE the hat! LOL Place is looking like you're doing a "remodel" LOL What I love about this is "nothin" is perfect but it works....still teaching my husband, to not listen to the voices that say - it has to be perfect.... LOL Great job!
Put a little peanut butter inside that feed sack and the canine will be fighting the pig for it, LOL. I see you're building on slanted land like we had to. Well at least you're already dug out some. Oh that buddy Howie is a blessing to share those building tip secrets like a level. ha ha You did a nice job on your pen. A big improvement that you should be proud of. Well done!
After reading all the comments, I'd have to tell them all that you made those posts "Plumb Level"! :-) My wife got me a contraption that checks 2 sides of a post at the same time! Can you even imagine??? Great Job !!!!!
Really like your video , people thing I'm crazy when I use scrap to build stuff . I pick up anything people are throwing away if I see something I can use it for . My Wife tell me all the time that I can make something out of nothing . We are home steading on about 39 acres and I have to use my head a lot . There is nothing a person can not do if you just think , my hands and feet don't work well any more so it takes me a lot longer to work on projects . So keep the video coming ,you teach e something every time I watch . p.s. what a steple .lol
Happy birds, lay happy eggs! At least that's what these girls that you gave me told me. Great looking run. I'm fixin' to start on enlarging ours. As soon as I can find a class on how to use that leveling thing you were talking about.
Nice job of the pheasant pen john. Might I suggest, to get a lot more overall life out of your fantastic cage, you should paint all the exposed wood with vegetable oil. Do it on a Hot day and paint it with filtered waist vegetable oil. The wood becomes far more weather resistant, and its free. It will also help to preserve your wire where it is scratched. It looks like you spent some money on this, and I know you would want it to last.
when you add the fencing you should place the fencing at least 2 feet deep with the bottom of the fencing being turned out at 90 degrees away from the pen into the soil in order to prevent foxes digging underneath. Thats how gamekeepers here in the UK and Europe create our pheasant pens for estate shoots. as usual though great video
I love this guy! Can't wait to try to raise a few pheasants and rabbits. I think I'll start for just personal consumption and build from there if I have any success.
Looks good thanks for sharing your process. I'm going to add on to my chicken run soon and i have to have it secure because the neighbors like there dogs.
I just found your channel a couple of days ago, but I already adore your personality and way of doing things. I build pretty much all my structures based on the size of your average pallet and learn something new with each project. With the amount of green on the ground I am guessing you are pretty far south from me. ( I am on the Canadian border in Minnesota) But I sure look forward to seeing more of your videos because I know I will learn quite a bit. Keep being awesome. :D
you can drop some small stones in the post hole around the post to sturdy it instead of concrete. also an angled wood diagonally on the gate to keep it square.
+Rev John O'Toole thats a much better idea , pouring concrete around the post actualy rots out faster then if it was filled in with dirt , concrete traps the water in
Great Video and Excellent Camera work! Your videos are so cool I had to Subscribe to your channel! Those Cornish Games are beautiful, probably the BEST eating Chicken there is! Thank you so much for posting your Videos! : )
pro tip, make your doors/gates swing IN to the coop/run. that way if the birds get spooked and fly against the door/gate it wont open allowing them to get out.
It is what it is. looks good, and as long as it keeps your pheasants in and the critters out, than it's perfect. How's pork chop coming along in making babies. she looks like she has gotten a little wider. best of luck, blessings to you and your family
too bad more people don't work the speed of John. maybe we wouldn't have as many consumer goods problems. "level-r?"; wow, how did the many ancient cultures and our forefathers managed without it? ;) and as far as the "attack of the wire" made my day.
Speed of John. LOL I worked with a old machinist years back when the foreman wanted him to work faster, he would tell them " he only had two speeds. If they didn't like this one, they d#*n sure wouldn't like other one." =)
I'm in the u.p. of Michigan and I remember my dad taking us pheasant hunting I really miss that. But with that being said I do cement work in the summer and was wanting to get into raising bird's your videos as are helping me a lot what area are you doing this in
Golly, That was a project. Hope your successful with the breeding.

Looks like a darn good pen and it'll do the job for years. Have a good'nnn
I'm the same way, as long as it works it doesn't need to look any certain way. It just needs to serve it's purpose. Great job John!

Lol! "Level... r somethin like that." That cracked me up! I remember when I was told about a fancy thing called a screwdriver. That sure saved my butter knives. :) thanks for all the videos!

Nice work, John. I like that artistic touch the Christmas trees provide. That's actually a very nice sized gate.

We have thought about raising a few pheasants here on deep south but not sure how hard it is in our climate.
pro tip, make your doors/gates swing IN to the coop/run. that way if the birds get spooked and fly against the door/gate it wont open allowing them to get out.

I think you did a good job on your run Mr John, have you ever had weasel trouble at your place? I know from experiance they can decimate a flock.
It's always christmas for the pheasants.
Amazing!
