In this video, I respond to some recent troll comments on a recent video I made about Tronscript. Many of these comments were not at all helpful, and some simply WRONG. I also clarify some of the mistakes I made in the first video, as well as correcting some of the best practices you should follow.
Tron Script is a collection of debloat programs, malware scanners, cleaning utilities, antivirus scanners, rootkit virus scanners, Windows cleanup tool, optimization tools, and so much more - all wrapped into one, automated program! All you have to do is download and run Tron Script, click I AGREE, and turn it loose, and the program does all the work for you, making it simple and easy to remove malware, viruses, infections, bad browser extensions and malicious software from your computer, while also reclaiming extra drive space, repairing Windows problems, and so much more! Try it today - it's 100% FREE!

As a tech with over 30 years experience myself, two things I would have done different. 1) Run in SMWN. Like for real. You have over 30 years experience, you should be able to tell people how to get to SMWN so that even 90 year old grandma can do it and being on TH-cam with the added ability to have it on video is just being lazy and does not have the benefit of a clear environment. 2) Run not just TRON script but RKill as ADMIN this goes without saying. A good video and kudos for what you are trying to do, but I do question some of your methods as this is the kind of thing a Garage Tech does vs those that have worked in a call center/helpdesk/corporate support would do things. Overall a lot of the same tools I would use manually in a script it's just I would have done this a bit different even knowing who the target audience is.

I once had a rather well known security TH-camr tell me I was shilling for keepass because I suggested that over the online password manager they were suggesting that ended up getting hacked. Like AYCG said I didn't understand how I can shill for a free software or even why I would shill for them since they are not paying for advertising anywhere else.

I've never trusted Windows Defender. To do so in my view regardless of how little one uses their computer is a complete recipe to get hacked, get nasties and you name it. Maybe they have improved the software over the years however considering how quickly Microsoft rush through everything to do with their software, tweak stuff that actually isn't broken and cause other major issues as a result, there is no way on this this earth that I would trust them to develop a fully secure anti virus programme!!!!

Nice video! Almost a "set it and forget it approach", eh? As someone who has fixed Windows PC problems over 25 years now [for free], I've only seen a few people who actually 'stuck around' to observe what I was doing or what software I was using, etc. Usually after 10 minutes or so, that curiosity is gone and they just want the blasted thing fixed. Most folks just want their PC working again! After watching your earlier video on Tron script I downloaded and examined it To my surprise - I've used almost every single tool in it and still do. First video was informative and useful, as was this one. Sorry the trolls felt the need make themselves known

Don't worry about the tools bro. Obviously they haven't a clue what they are talking about. I have been working on Comps since about 1995 and lately some of the tech has gotten away from me but viruses and the like are still pretty much like they always have been. It is just awesome that they are so easy to remove now because I remember back in the day having to manually remove them from various places on the machine and it could take hours trying to find them like the run files in the registry and anywhere else you can think of. The ones I had trouble with were the nasty ones that would get in your host files. Anyway that's all under the bridge now with all the great FREE OPEN SOURCE stuff out there. I have never paid for any cleaner of any kind and I never will and I never!...let me repeat...never! get viruses on my computers. I saw your previous video and you saved my life with your advice about tronscript; I've an old desktop PC which is using Windows 7; it was very slow and I didn't even use Avast or Malwarebites on it, because it always got frozen, so I had to inactivate the antivirus in order to navegate through the internet (which made my computer more vulnerable). 06:14 - Agree with your response on this one. The fact that you can customise things doesn't mean you have to, or that doing so proves some kind of deeper understanding. Some of us are quite content with many of the default settings/layouts. I'd don't quite have the 40 years experience of one of the other respondents, but I'm clocking 35 years and change in IT - 17 years in Internet Security - and on my Windows installs I basically reduce the default icon size & scaling, swap out the desktop for a plain colour and turn off the news function. Everything else I leave as it is - but then I run Windows where I have to and all my other machines use Linux ;o)

I was surprised to find a video of you responding to all of the backlash from that video.
Personally I think you did a few things during the video that I did not agree with, such as:
-Running multiple processing heavy Programs at once (puts strain on the computer but may possibly be faster overall)
-Running a Clean/Defrag Process at the start of the job (this is personal preference, in terms of actual results you wont gain too much from optimizing and cleaning the system afterwards but you will still catch more. Also defrags and cleans can move around cleverly hidden programs, actually helping them to stay hidden from scans.)
-Not running other types of scans/checking other areas. eg repairing drives, checking network drives/firewalls/physically connected devices.
-Not configuring Tron Script to run custom parameters for your use case. (You addressed this one! great job!)
-Using CCleaner with the default options despite its bad rep. (again you addressed this one and peoples concerns, Great job!)
    ---------------------
Aside from those issues, yoy explained everything very simply and spoke very well. You seem very knowledgeable about this area of computers and I dont doubt your skill despite your actions. Also I am not claiming to know any more about this than the average user.
Overall, great video and I am very happy you made a response video!
Great Job recommending Tron Script, I like what it offers, you may have also liked to mention that it has other functions such as patching and editing things on your computer for protection and extra bloat removal/tracking.
Adding to this, you may want to repeat to people that open source doesnt mean bad, it simply means the code is readable and usually able to be taken and used freely.
    Great Stuff!

I watched the video you are referring to. I didn't see anything wrong with it. In fact, if for no other reason, I thought it was a good maintenance video for people to follow to set up a regular computer maintenance routine. I do mine around every six months or so. Sooner if my machine starts running rough. I dont find computer anti-virus software of any kind to be all that reassuring. There is no such thing as 100% protection from virus or malware. (no, I am not saying dont install one. Any protection is better than no protection.) If you are connected to the internet, you WILL get Malware and various viruses. (plus the every day occurrence of having broken/dead registry links from normal everyday use.) Knowing how to deal with the most common of these can save you money in bench fees you could have taken care of yourself. Not to mention the self satisfying feeling that you learned something you didn't know anything about before. For instance, I'll be looking into the Tronscript program to add to my arsenal of cleaning software. (many of which you have already mentioned in your video.) I think people just get confused between everyday annoyances, and dangerous software written specifically to cripple your computer. Those programs require more specific attention and are dangerous even to experienced repair techs. I found your video to be an excellent walkthrough for the most aggravating problems that can be taken care of by the average user.

What most people don't understand about open-source software is besides being free, as a user of the software you can make suggestions for improvements or new features. You don't have to be a program. You can also report on anything in the software that isn't work. Open-source software is always changing.

Scott, along with many others, is providing a valuable service to those less inclined or unable to learn the inner workings of computer software. To expect every video to be a complete, irrefutable, and completely error-free lesson is unreasonable and, frankly, impossible. My first computer was a (1986) Tandy 1000SX with 5-1/4 floppies and NO HardDrive, with which I learned DOS Basic and developed some of my own programs. Since then, I've used every Microsoft OS version (except Win 10, graduating straight from 8.1 to 11) and "built" 3 computers. I still watch every, single one of Ask Your Computer Guy's videos and learn something, and most often lots of things, from each one. If the know-it-alls of the computer world can;t think before they speak when finding criticism about a certain video, they reveal more about themselves than the content creator they're criticizing. Watch and learn, friends.

I try not to make assumptions about people, but looking back at my own career & personal growth, I absolutely went through a phase where I was overly impressed with my own tech skills & convinced I knew it all. Then I got a job that took me out of IT & into PACS. I was immediately out of my waters, got to work with bona-fide, literal _geniuses_ , & got a grander scale scope of the world. I went in cocky & was quickly chastened. I grew technically, & as an individual; learned humility & am grateful for it. I've since returned to IT but now in healthcare, where my PACS experience is invaluable. I had a moment a couple weeks ago thinking back on my younger self, & older guys chiding me about experience, & then realized, oh shit-- now I'm the older guy 😂

I pulled up regedit & he's suddenly like, "whoa, wait, what is this? r-e-g-e-d-i-t?" & I'm thinking to myself, is this guy trolling me?? Had to stop & roll with it, he'd simply never needed it before, had to learn about it for the 1st time sometime, gave him the broad strokes. He asked me later how I knew what kinds of things I needed to look at to troubleshoot the issue, & all I could tell him, it just comes with time & experience, you just have to learn what tools are available to you & when to use them. It just comes in time. I've kinda taken him under my wing now, try to give him useful tidbits here & there (edit: feeling like something could've come out wrong, I don't want to seem condescending about the guy, & neither that I'm shoving my ideas upon him. I want to state for a FACT that Windows Defender is NOT enough to keep your system safe. I've been through it all. A few years ago, I was told that Windows Defender would be sufficient, but that is blatantly wrong. Sure, it's okay for basic protection, but I would never rely on it again.
I used only Windows Defender for about three years, and viruses kept getting into my system left and right. The crazy part? It didn't even pick up on those viruses and alert me! The only reason I knew something was wrong was because my computer started acting weird. So, I decided to run a manual scan with Windows Defender. Even though it claimed to scan regularly and always reported that everything was clear and clean, when I manually scanned, it found a Trojan and several other viruses!
I was shocked-this thing scanned daily and said my system was clean, but it really wasn’t. I will never rely on Windows Defender again, and I think anyone who endorses it as sufficient protection is seriously misguided.

I worry a bit about fully automated PC tools cause, especially in the old days (win xp etc) I saw so many people essentially "repair" their computers to death, and "clean" their computers to death.
Norton's was a *great* program on mac, but then when I started using and working on windows pc's and there was this "registry" thing... lol that was a whole new nightmare and what I quickly discovered was, in the hands of somebody who didn't know what they were doing, norton could be a flat out pc killer.
So, yeah, it was safe to *scan* a computer with most of those automated tools, but *then* you really needed to go over each and every one of the "suggested fixes" to see what the things were actually planning to do to "fix" the "problem". And a lot of times the so called problems were NOT actual problems, and the FIXes often could make matters worse, or even cause new problems.
And, man, so many people were essentially *addicted* to making sure their computers were *completely clean* and had no *errors* and were *fully optimized*, and would have multiple different products trying to do essentially the same job, which often resulted in a total clusterfu... well, a *reeeeeally* big mess lol
Anyway, these fears are largely based on experiences from a decade or more ago, but even though I know the technology has surely advanced accordingly, they still linger.
I'm glad you've made this video to help others, and hey, it might even help me some day! :D I hope I never need it, but having seen TRON in the theater back when it came out, I love the reference and it's one I can remember ;D
But I'm hesitant to use it myself.
It's sort of like how I used to know a guy who was *REALLY* good at cleaning house.
I mean, there was NO question that he was good at what he did.
But... His idea of what things are important, or necessary, and what has value and what doesn't, differed from mine.
So what invariably happened was, whenever he came over and helped clean up the house, was later on I'd find stuff missing, and after looking around everywhere I'd end up back at my trash cans, having to dig out a bunch of stuff that was *important to me*, but was useless clutter/junk to him. (I have a lot of hobbies, and having a lot of hobbies, means you have to have a lot of hobby related stuff lol)
And that's largely what I fear. Is that if I use an automated repair tool/cleaner/etc, I might find myself later having issues and I won't know what's missing, or broken, or changed, because *I* wasn't the one who did it (whatever it was).
But I know a guy who's addicted to downloading free games and modified game exe's cause he is totally addicted to cheating and essentially playing every game in god mode, and that means 90% of the sites he visits are probably loaded with mallware bombs and honey traps, and...
If HE needs me to fix his computer again, I'd have no qualms about using this to sort out the issues lol
just pull the pin and run ;)
I do need to look up something to check my PC though... Not because I know of any particular issue with it... But rather *the opposite*.
As in, the longer I go without "catching" anything from the internet, while doing practically nothing to prevent it (other than just windows defender and reasonably safe browsing habits), the more i get the nagging suspicion that maybe something HAS snuck onto my system and it's just really good at hiding... lol
So I think I might look up at least a nice *scan* tool. I've used mallwarebytes before when I've felt a need to check something, but it's been a long time. I'll probably start there.
anyway, take care and pbbt the trolls! ;D

I already sent this comment to the original video and I thought it might be useful to add it here too:
Hello, thank you for another great video! I wanted to share my feedback with you which might find useful to people trying to do this. I tried downloading the latest version of Tron [ v12.0.5 (2023-02-02) ] yesterday on my work machine "protected" by Sophos and the download failed with message "virus detected". I am guessing it's yet another one of Sophos' false positives, since I already had issues with Sophos wiping my old and safe tools like PC Audit, but I wanted to let you know that it happens. Maybe you can test it and make a follow up video clarifying this as I'm sure there might be others finding themselves in the same situation. Also, if you are in contact with the person/team behind Tron you might let them know about this Sophos flag so they can also inform people on their download page about it.

    • @AskYourComputerGuy

Just about every browser and AV program mark TronScript as a "virus". Why? Look at all the utilities that run inside the program...they are very virus-like in how they work: making changes, deleting files, de-bloating the OS...lots of similarities. All one has to do is tell their browser or AV that the file is safe to keep and there are no issues after that. I agree the folks at TronScript should give a disclaimer...but so should I have as well 🤷‍♂️

    Holy heck
Dude straight up said running task manager and restarting is enough never had to deal with a serious malware.
Jesus christ. The internet should have some age restriction for comments. Would save us all some time.
EDIT I didn't knew worse comments were still too be read further in the video... that one about customization is painful

I do agree that the original video was a bit clickbaity and absolutist, and I appreciate the corrections.
Otherwise, yes, Tronscript and rkill (which Tronscript uses) are good ways to clean most malware/virus infections, and can easily be used by most non-tech-savvy people.
So, good job on the videos letting folks know about them. :)

Your video was helpful and informative. Your tips were good for a wide variety of issues. There will always be trolls. Ignore them. There really is no one click fix all so every bit of solution that actually makes a difference is a plus. I mean if they really want to be picky, tell them to run something like a real time debugger that loads before windows and watch the assembly code to really make a surgical strike step by step as everything loads up. The guide was clear enough that my grandmother could follow it. Don't let the haters deter you. Sensible people appreciate your efforts. 👍

I despise people that are an expert that look down their nose at anyone that is not as familiar with their field of expertise.
Listening to most tech savvy people talking about computers sounds like a foreign language to me.
I don't understand 9/10ths what they are talking about and as such I like and appreciate presentations like yours.
A classic example of the tech jargon that is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike to the laymen like me is, when talking about cleaning up a computer, being advised to:
Uninstall any unnecessary programmes. WARNING - Don't remove any programmes if you don't know what they are as they may harm the way that your computer functions" (or words to that effect).
But I don't know what programmes are necessary and those that are not. Consequently I don't remove any because I don't want my computer to stop functioning. Ergo I am non the wiser than I was before receiving the advice and nothing changes.

I completely understand! I try to make videos for those people like you, not people like me 😁
