First off, let me say how much I have enjoyed these videos that have come out about the Kibler gun kit builds. But either I'm doing something wrong or they are as I've used Aquafortis (Iron Nitrate) since my first gun build in the early 70's and have never had the stock turn black. The color is still as vibrant as when I first made them. I have since just followed what was printed in the book The Art of Building the Pennsylvania Longrifle when it came out in the late 70's and have yet to run into any problems.
usually aqua fortis alone wont, using tannic acid over a coat of aqua fortis will turn a stock a dark brown black that requires a lot of rubbing back to reveal the final color. its a great method to darken the curl but it certainly takes a lot more work-back and can be achieved other ways
How would the aquafortis work to artificially stripe a piece of plain ,maple then use the dye over the artificial striping and to color the rest of the stock?

How about beeswax is that a good thing to put on top of your stock after staining
How light sensitive are those dyes that are being used? Will the colors fade over time.
