Reading all your comments has made me interested in making a "Free Aim v Shift Lock" type video where I go more into detail about each. I just gave a quick explanation of each in this video as a precursor for why this issue with attack speed exists. Aiming in itself is an interesting topic for AO 🤔
to not miss by a couple pixels, don’t shoot at an isometric angle, it’ll completely throw off your aim in free aim. It’s best to just turn your camera to the direction your projectile needs to go, that way you don’t miss
It should not work like this though because in combat its hard to keep your cursor centered. Might ad well go with shift lock at that point and have your cursor blocked off by your head
The only thing I don't like abt shift lock is that the camera angle changes to the right, if it was above our head I would use it a lot, and also to activate shitflock in AO we gotta press Alt, which is a little troubling for me

Which is why in WoM the whole winning strategy is to be in the air/ above your opponent. So that you can aim at the floor with more accurate direction than when aiming at the sky
Yeah the aim of free aim is perspective based. if try to shoot a blast attack at the ground but there's like tree in the the view of your camera. your attack will just go the complete opposite direction your cursor was at. Its so annoying.
You can aim more easily with free aim when you’re actually turned where you want to Most of its issues can be fixed by just looking at where you want to by holding down right mouse button and rotating before attacking
i think the best is to play both shiftlock and free view , im a warlock , when i use my fs style im on shiftlock but when i use my magic (blast , beams...) i quickly go freeview It might seems hard for sum peoples but after training a bit it just become a reflex
I played better without shiftlock, shiftlock can also sometimes fall under the problem of what magmurr explained with the cursor not perfectly aligning with the presumed target, and make u miss by a mile. For me, the cursor is more accurate because its only the mouse moving, not your entire screen, idk I just have better aim without shiftlock, and when I use moves which are AOE based, I use shiftlock.
The thing i kinda hate with aim-related attacks like beam when you are in shiftlock is that you have your big aaah character in the center of your screen where you wanna aim. Maybe a skill issue xD@@arceyplayz
I don’t do shiftlock, mainly because my pov moves with my mouse and my character blocks my vision. In PVPs I tend to aim at the ground tiles on munera (it works wonders). Still, while aiming at the air, free aiming can throw me off sometimes, which is why I use my fs or placed explosion for air fights lol.
Its better to use both Shift Lock and Free Aim As a Conjurer, I use Shift Lock when I aim Sword Attacks and Magic Beams (because free aiming beams shoots it at the floor or the sky for some reason) and I use Free Aim when using Explosion Spell Magic and Blast Spell Magic. Honestly it also depends in the situation. It is your choice when to use it (Shockwave Explosion is pretty good in open areas whereas Sphere Explosions and Sword Attacks are good in hallways. I use Pillar and flying attacks when I have the high ground if they fall in a pit)
magmurr, why the heck were you fighting without shiftlock in backgroubd if you knew shiftlock was better? or you didnt know about the bug back then? if so, are you gonna use shiftlock now? (edit: you have my respects for wanting optimizations too)
no wonder when im free aiming and im aiming directly at the player it misses, i am a high speed thermo berserker and i was beginning to think my aim was bad
7/10, I went overkill with 400 attack speed so my defence & power are low. if I redid the build to only have 250-300 attack speed I'd have a lot more defence, power and maybe even agility and the build would easily be a 9/10. Agility isn't so important and you don't even need to build it if you don't want to depending on your play style. if you want to build agility you have to build a lot of it to make it noticeable and as a result you end up losing a lot of other stats.

@@arceyplayz i never use shiftlock it just hurts more than it helps, it makes it much harder to aim ranged projectiles like a bow or a musket
