    Here are the highlights of my flight in a Fouga Magister OH-FMA, an ex-Finnish Air Force jet trainer now operated privately by Fouga-Team (www.fouga-team.fi/).
    No music - enjoy the sound of "cock whistle".
    Thanks to Jukka O. Kauppinen Mediapalvelut (www.mediapalvelut.fi/) and Alasin Media (www.alasinmedia.fi/) for lending extra GoPro's.

    Fond memories go with this video, thank you! I must have been 17 years old, 1964 in Bochum, NRW, West-Germany during a flight show when 4 or 6 Fouga Magister of the French Air Force Academy, the „Patrouille de l'école de l'aire“ was the highlight of the event. They even landed and we could get a close look of the planes. When you consider that I am 71 years old now you can appreciate how impressed I was! Thanks again for posting the video and I am puzzled about the 298 likes including mine!

      Hallo Alexander, I was so impressed, that I kind of always kept in touch with aviation. 1967-1969 Luftwaffe, BaseOps JaBoG 36 Rheine-Hopsten (now decommissioned), because of my glasses (1.5 dioptrien) they would not let me go for the pilot training, so I only did the 18 month, 1969-1970 Flugbegleiter (Purser) Lufthansa (727 und 737). Then dentistry and oral surgery, but a highlight about 15 years ago was actually flying a Robinson R44 hands on the controls with a FI for 2 times 30 min.

    This is my favorite aircraft on my Flight Simulator. LOVE how smoothly it handles at low and medium speed. Yes, it's is under powered, over weight, and not very streamlined, not to mention outdated and inefficient, yet it has a charm I just can't shake. Having experienced the craft in real life, I have to say my hopes and dreams came true. It is perfect just the way it is to me.

    Israel put 24 of these aircraft to good use during the Six Day War in 1967 to stop a Jordanian armored column of Patton tanks that was climbing up from the Jordan Valley to relieve the beleaguered Jordanian Army in Jerusalem. Some of the Israeli pilots were student pilots barely out of flight school and the rest were older commercial pilots and reserve officers. They were initially going to be kept out of the fighting but were called to action when it was realized they were the only air assets Israel had available at the time. Armed with only machine guns and unguided 2.75" Mighty Mouse rockets, the Fouga Magisters were flown to within 200 meters of the Jordanian tanks to ensure hits. The aircraft had no aiming system other than an "X" taped on the windscreen and 25% of the aircraft were lost to ground fire.

    Wow these are awesome little jets! How hasn’t any company taken the plans and built new ones in the last 50 years? I’d think there must be a market for an aircraft like this minus the 70 year old worn airframe.
    Was just looking at one on trade-a-plane that got me watching TH-cam videos to see what this plane is. Had 500/700hrs on the turbines plus a spare with 1800hrs for only $22000. Seems like a great price for a low hour turbine aircraft so I’m sure there are operational cost issues like on the L-39 Albatros that could also have affordable purchase prices till you factor maintenance, huge fuel bills, and scarce part availability.
    I wonder what fuel burn is like on this aircraft since it’s turbines are relatively small(880lbs thrust each)? Or if the issue driving down its price is lack of replacement engine, parts, or high cost of parts? Maybe people are just scared to fly an aerobatic trainer that could’ve been pulling 5g with the airframe over the last 70 years?
    Really interesting aircraft, would love to fly one, or better yet own one if they don’t burn $500 of Jet A per hour.

Is there many of these left in Finland? Laukkanen told me at museum, that also that one in the museum (outcluding fuel leak and some hydraulic pressure losts) in pretty much flight condition also. Sometimes they roll with it, he said. OR "could be". Condition enough to fly for "Jyrkiboy" maby... :) Very nice vid. Thank you! And thank you.

    During my homework for my Aviation Maintenance Tech. school in Portland, Oregon, I was going through the safety alerts. I came across an Airworthiness (AC) Number 43-16 dated July of 1996. On page seven I saw the manufacturer Fouga and model CM170. Along with other models throughout the world, I had not yet heard of this one. Unfortunately, in the alert, the CM170 had wrecked. Here is there link:

      @cos4242  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's considered "complex airplane". Check your local aviation law for what is required to get a type certificate for one. Also you'll need to find an Fouga Magister with a owner willing to teach you. Twin engine rating is not required, as the engines are in the fuselage and they don't cause any torque. I don't have type certificate for this, I was just a passenger so my information may be wrong.

    If you're a pilot, and can afford a brand new Ford F250, then you can afford to buy a decommissioned Israeli CM.170. They're being offered for sale for just $29,900 US at www.raptoraviation.com/aircraft%20spec%20pages/Fouga%20IAI.html. I don't fly, and I've never been in the market, but if I was, I'd be all over this.

    • @RandomShit169

      I think you need to have experience on flying jets and you need to have some ranks in the af to buy one.

    • @Itapirkanmaa2
      @Itapirkanmaa2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ace Jargo No a rank in any AF is totally irrelevant in the civilian aviation and the planes in the civil aircraft registry. Even a flying colonel can't even fly a glider without the proper civilian authorization. And to buy any plane is always fine if you're not attempting to fly it.

    • @cos4242

      A lot of 50's trainers didn't have ejection seats yet. Fouga is based on a glider so there isn't enough room. The planes have plenty of spares, but trained mechanics are getting old which may cause them to quit flying or be sold to someone with money to keep them flying.
