The fuel hinge on my 06 XC70 was a tight fit but as the video showed it snapped right in with with the proper technique and amount of force. Nice video! Thanks
Thanks for the video - Super helpful! Don't lose the plastic pins and use tweezers to hold them in place. Also, look for the smooth end to insert into the hinge.
If you like to destroy the new hinge it's a perfect method. If you like to use it a bit longer you might consider mounting the lid to the hinge before you mount the hinge to the car.
YOU MUST ATTACH THE HINGE AND DOOR ON THE XC-90 TOO BEFORE HAMMERING AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ended up punching the pins through and using the smooth end of an old 1/8 inch drill bit and ground out 4 pieces to reattach the door and hinge as one. The smooth part fit perfectly and the door works perfectly now.
I found that I could attach the door after installing the hinge. The included plastic rivets really sucked, and I found the best and easiest sollution to be screwing in some screws instead (in the same holes). Easier to remove the hinge in the future too! :)
PLEASE NOTE: Attach door to hinge BEFORE mounting on the vehicle. Not all models have enough clearance to attach the door after the hinge has been attached to the vehicle. Also, it is a good option to use 4 stainless steel screws instead of the 4 plastic pins.
Good point on attaching the door to hinge first. But the plastic pins work fine. If it breaks off, just open the hole with a punch to remove butts, use needle nose to hold/start the pin, and hammer it in.
I tried this but when hammering the new rivets in the new hinge keeps falling off the body. Do I need to pop something into place or something? I'm not sure why its not staying attached to the body of the car. I have a 2003 Volvo V70
I found the plastic pins to be impossible to work with. As a comment below suggests, I used wood screws. They don't anchor into the car body ... the screws need to be just big enough to expand the clips that grab the holes in the car body.
Very frustrated to learn you can't simply 'pop' the fuel door onto the hinge on some models. There isn't enough clearance on my '07 V70R. And looking closer at the other comments, it's an issue on other models as well. The instructions should have had you attach the fuel door onto the hinge BEFORE attaching the hinge to the car. Now I'm out a $25 part and will drive around without a fuel cover until it arrives.

Better to use 1/8 x 1/4 aluminum rivets. Screws will tear up the plastic spacers and rubber washers, and aren't going to hold.
Thanks so much for your excellent video. I saved money and time.

Use rivets, not screws. It will be a much more professional looking job, and the screws can rip up things.
YES and use the screws.Save yourself time and headache.

The pins work just fine, at least on OEM parts.
A perfect how to. thanks.
Thanks this helped me so much

im on my 3rd hinge these post are hard to hammer in ..the body side seems to slide and break off the post that hold to the body..
Just use aluminum rivets. They will work even if the plastic rivets break.

Yup bad advice. However, easily fixed by removing hinge again, and using something else in place of plastic rivets.
Thank you
Thanks
It's easy to get off but the little plastic rivets disappear inside the body!!!
OH, NO!
And?
