T/L Note: “歯茎（はぐき/haguki)” is a term that has been recently popularized in the FPS scene in Japan. It literally translates to “gums”, and refers to the act of smiling/laughing so hard in game that you end up showing your gums to the other person-in other words, it means “to play for fun, even if it means possibly losing the game”. There’s no real concise equivalent in English in my opinion-although “trolling” and “throwing” are close to the definition of “haguki”, both “trolling” and “throwing” imply malicious intent behind your actions (whereas “haguki” does not). I am aware that the meaning of “trolling” and “throwing” has been diluted these days due to their overuse, but I intentionally avoided translating “haguki” this way due to the above.
