  • On todays video I put together a cheap PSU for powering your node where you dont have access to a mains power socket and I show how much difference the little home made yagi can make.
All .STL files for the bits seen here can be downloaded from these links.

Great video mate! I love how this has made us all start scrambling about in the loft again!😂 CB 2.0

Seems like a lot of effort to go to, just to provide a USB 5V source in the loft. I would have installed a single gang 13A socket and just used a regular high quality plug in USB supply. If the lighting circuit is not protected by a 30mA RCD already, then install an RCD socket.

Why not just install a 13amp socket with built-in USB.

I would have to run a spur off the ring main in to the loft to do that, this was the quickest and easiest way of doing it and as I explained on the video I like to make my own stuff and use stuff I have in the drawer which is what I did.

Hi Paul. Although it's a 13 amp socket, you will be limited to the current value of the MCB, which will be rated to the size of the cable. Presumably 6 amps. Therefore connecting a 13 amp socket is perfectly safe.

Hello Paul, you are my nearest node! I have literally just powered on a Heltec V3 in Hooky - and tracked you down from the call sign. Hope to be able to message you soon.

Thanks for all the stl files. Just wondered what software you’re using for the designs ?

Thanks for another great video, with some great ideas, Could you please update the PSU case files, as the PSU & Original Case are the same. Cheers..

I just ordered a USB charging solar panel 7W, Complete waterproof enclosure, mast. I will be putting this up on my roof about 40 feet in the air. Fully charged 3000mah battery and the solar panel charging it during the daytime. The battery last about 2 days on its own full charged so the battery should be plenty to keep it running. My big issue now is which is better- long range fast or slow? its for my family only so I am looking at the slow to get better range.

Kind of a round about solution but, if it works then great!
What about backup power for when the mains go down?

    • @knoxieman
      @knoxieman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't have any battery backup is just a test, mum will want it out of the loft fairly soon I'm guessing.

Thanks for the STL files, but do you have a link to the load tester you used? Also, why not pop the files you are happy to give away onto thingiverse and back link to your channel, as I’m sure that would get you move views and subs? Slightly unrelated, but did you ever decide to make any case files available for the SINAD meter? Finally about to build mine from your kit, all these months later!

Hey Knoxie.... I wanted to do the same as you and put my node in the loft, but i cannot find the STL files for the PSU.... You have the same link twice in the description and both take you to the Heltec case for me... Am i missing something ?

@knoxieman Any chance you can fix this, please? I really want to print one for my loft.

Do you have a link to the STL file for the loft mount ?

Yes it should be in the description

Switched fused spur with a 5amp fuse would of been the proper way to install this!

Brilliant, thanks for this! Won't be touching the leccy myself, though, I'll probably blow the house up.
