I think the much more important question is how do you determine which generation it is? Auto ID by VIN doesn't always work and is time consuming. Must be a better way than trial and error (what I've always done).

Another way is Google is your friend and search for the model's generation code by year. Should take about 5 seconds. There is probably a Hyundai/Kia page with all the models and years divided by the generation code. Bookmark that link to make it easy.
