      There are 2 parts to the mechanism it sits on. The rails and the davit arm which can swing out over the water just like a typical davit crane. The boat can be launched in the same way without requiring a freefall.

    On higher heights the seats would have to be facing up to the sky to prevent injury and death. They had people die from the breaking of the necks facing forward as they hit the water.

      This is a special scenario since it was a test, so they probably got a crane or something. But these types of boats are meant to escape a sinking ship, so they're not really meant to be reinstalled.

    • @bower31

    That seems dangerous AF. When the ship is sinking you'll have debris falling everywhere and then your life boat falls down the ship to the water it might hit something and just instantly sink or w/e. The one with Davits seem much safer.

    • @FlorenceSlugcat
      @FlorenceSlugcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. This kind of lifeboat is much safer for the kind of environment it was designed for. It was designed for things like oil rigs or tankers, with the purpose of ejecting the crew as far as possible from the vessel and as fast as possible. This is because theses lifeboats were designed for other possible reasons you might want to evacuate, such as an oil rig fire. In this case, lowering with davits takes alot of time and would require you to be lowereing down slowly by the lenght of the ship, wich could have flames, smoke or toxic fumes around that lenght, all of wich are deadly
      The slide gives it momentum, this momentum makes the lifeboat travel forward after launch, to a safe distance from the vessel
      This kind of lifeboat has been in ise since decades

      Why would you want to add mass to the head during the drop and following rapid deceleration? To increase the risk of neck injury? The persons are strapped in tightly and won't be going anywhere. And there are no lose objects inside a freefall boat. They don't need a helmet. Being such an expert on this you should know that part of the drill is to secure everyone before launching...
