Johnathan you are great son. I'm an old hillbilly in the Ozarks and just wasted away with old. I sure do enjoy all your shows. Yure a very talented young man. I hope people are learnin from what you do. Very important that people learn your stuff for when hard times come. And they surely do come by and by. Thanks young man. God bless you and yurn.
Another great “ bring them back to life “ video . Cracked blocks don’t scare me . My brother bought a Case backhoe loader as parts cause of a crack in the block . Found someone who knew how to weld/repair blocks . Great running tractor now . Great video as always !! Thanks Jonathan
I was 8 years old when I first drove a tractor and it was a super dexta. This was one of the best days of my life. I felt like a real man in a child body. I know if I drove one now I would feel like a child in a mans body. My first ride was over 44 years ago!!!
well you got it unstuck!!!! an old boss of mine told me........rust never sleeps, while your sleeping, that rust is up all night hard at work!! ha ha i thought id share that, i got quite a kick out of it!!!!!! take care!!!
That nose cone is in amazing condition. Every one of them rusted badly at the sides here in Ireland. That is the usual spot for the block to crack in the frost. My one cracked internally into the centre cylinder as well, the liner fell in two when pressed out. Local engineering firm machined out the block to take a Massey Ferguson 35x heavy liner, then bored it back to original Dexta size. Remember, that's virtually the same block as a Massey 35. Biggest difference is the Massey does not have the hand primer/lift pump located beside the injector pump like the Dexta has.
i have about 4 super dextas and dear god about 2 of them are for parts and you got to keep them topped up in anti freeze or else that block cracks there a bollux of a fault in them all. I have one with a perfect engine at the moment with no live drive and another one that belonged to my father that has a live drive back end and a small crack on the block so at them moment i am going to join the two of them up to make a ideal little fordson 😊
Hey Jonathan, There is a nut down in Texas that would love to have that tractor. He collects useless tractors, it looks like a sickness. He will put new tires, lights, an ipod charger and a new seat cushion on it long before he sees the busted block. His name is Chuck2009.
Never Give up man!Surely you can find a Perkins somewhere,Would be cool to see that block welded up. A new set of rings, a ball-hone, and some welds on the cracks may not be a far-fetched idea if he don't mind it doing a little smoking and drinking when he uses it! LOL
you did what you could, my friend.... things like this ya never know what's going to happen.... Now it's up to your buddy to decide on how much money he want's to invest in it.... Way to go....
Damn that one is a wreck. I love little 3 cylinder diesels but that one is beyond what I would consider a reasonable rescue. Sure it COULD be saved but it'd require so much time, money, and additional parts that I wouldn't deem it worth it unless it was a super rare engine you couldn't get parts for. Which this isn't. Pretty neat little tractor though. I've got a little Ford 641 Workmaster. (same chassis as the 8n but with an overhead valve engine) and it's a great little tractor.
Well you all ways want to give it a try b4 u have take head off. And yes you do have to take front axle off but it not that a bad off a job. Then u just block the back end up and just take belhouesing bolts you be good to go. But u no all that anyway. But just take cluch off as well. If u don't do a complete rebuild. Another good job and video. Jonathan. From Andy in UK
Ya, I wrote those comments before you got to the "removed cover" part. The damage to those engine cylinders is beyond comprehension. I've never seen rust that bad. Ever.
hey jonathan: when I saw that exhaust manifold, I knew the jig was up. If, if if. he had opportunity to save it, like 30 years ago. another engine and the tractor will be worth it because of the nose and all the rest functional probably. hope the radiator isn't broke too.
First comment!... Hey Jonathan last drag car video someone said know one in the right mind would take that thing down the track. Buddy I would love to race that thing
yea when I seen the patches on the lower radiator hose I figured it was being patched just to keep it gowing..and it doesn't matted how long ago it was patched together anti freeze was expensive different times different prices,it really high now...on a tight income and all it takes is one sudden freeze and crack ola...I've lost a few and seen many ....all away a scurry of flurry to drain the non winterized cars and equipment....and of forget about it or health issues set in and it gets overclooked...I use to live in northern indiana...sad but I I've seen a few.....PEOPLE use to ask ...is the block cracked....dad had a SMALL auto salvage yard and then you walk around your place it reminds me of my folks place.....now down here in Texas..HOT HOT HOT.but this last winter's we had 3-4 times we had a hard freeze caught a few off guard......pipes..burst..you know the rest ....it's still hurts to loose stuff...
Looks like a total engine remove and damage check. Pull it from the engine mount, and see if turns over. Flush the cylinders with rust remover, and check the cam for damaged parts.
I enjoyed and learned something new, again. I sold on that rust eating stuff. Ona side note I used Koil on a wd 45 and just rolled the whole tractor back and forth so I could get it al apart. Just goes to show you more than one way to skin a cat.
time to invest in one of those 15 or 20 buck Ebay USB Endoscope cameras.. so you can look down the intake ports or perhaps even thru the injector holes.. to see into the combustion chambers.
No big deal on resurfacing the head and putting new valve guides in! You can reuse the valves and reseated with compound. Let the pistons set in STP or mystery oil and knock them out resleeve it or hone it out.
Well, that stuff you poured in there (Metal Restore?) appears to be a low-molarity phosphoric acid, or some neutralized base of the same. I'd suggest that coca cola might be a lot less expensive next time, but I dunno.
looks like you like a challenge crikey thought mine looked rough when i bought it off a farmer 5 years ago,i got all engine done up did some work to make it tidy but lost interest engine wouldent turn over gonna try your trick on ring gear with prize bar ,i might of got clutch lined up wrong or engine stuck cos i dident turn it over periodically ,i must work on it again the super dexta was a nice motor .ive a standard dexta attached to a saw but i have to use go juice to fire it up check it out on my channel ,keep up the good work Ant from Wales UK .ive subbed
I had 2 Fordson majors the transmission is almost unbreakable but engines are not the best usually they mix water and oil and the hydraulics are not that powerful
Alex Hickey f3 144 , it’s similar to a Perkins p3 , Ford originally developed the engine with help from Perkins, eventually Perkins got the rights to the design and the a3-152 was built
repower it with something crazy , maybe a chevy small block ... kinda joking , but if you had a chevette engine or something , a man might pull something off and the thing actually be useable , but the time is not worth the result unless your bored and have all that spare time the haters think you have , and we all know you really don't even have time to sleep in our line of work ...

Jonathan you are a very educated mechanic and I am learning tricks and new things as I watch your videos so please keep making them thank you

People love these here in Ireland. Save the little baby Dexter like only you can 👍😆
Yup, I drove one on the FAS in Rosslare, loved it. I liked Zetor but this was great craic when it ran 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I knew who it was before you mentioned the name
Thats the funniest thing ive read all day. You forgot the video two days later about being scammed.
Worst mechanic in Texas, hang on no its the tractor or the distributor ignition or the carby, its never him lol
We love us some ChuckE2009..................new gauges too!
Greyhaired Phantom, to be fair ChuckE2009 always puts in his not a mechanic disclaimer... Quite annoyingly :)
Love the way you go about fixing the impossible 👍🏻🇬🇧
I haven't seen a Dexta for years! Same pistons and liners etc as the four cylinder Fordsons so parts are easy. Great little tractors.
Never Give up man!Surely you can find a Perkins somewhere,Would be cool to see that block welded up. A new set of rings, a ball-hone,

I like your detail on your explanation of what have done or doing and your diagnosis process your videos are fine
Thank you for compiling the progress into one video. There is nothing more irritating than watching videos with numerous cliffhangers.

Not the same as an 8n, not nearly.
Not like an 8N..same as 600 pretty much, based on/similar to NAA Jubilee...but not 8N...@@100texan2
Game not over yet. Never know, could work out well. Good luck on this one.👍
Stuck pistons, cracked block: not such a good looking engine. It will be interesting to see what happens in future updates. Thanks for this one.

I love watching your videos u r my favorite channel
First comment!... Hey Jonathan last drag car video someone said know one in the right mind would take that thing down the track. Buddy I would love to race that thing
As you was viewing and showing the crack in the block, I thought I saw one bad freeze (frost) plug in bad shape...….behind that fuel filter housing.
yea when I seen the patches on the lower radiator hose I figured it was being patched just to keep it gowing..and it doesn't matted how long ago it was patched together anti freeze was expensive
different times different prices,it really high now...on a tight income and all it takes is one sudden freeze and crack ola...I've lost a few and seen many ....all away a scurry of flurry to drain the
non winterized cars and equipment....and of forget about it or health issues set in and it gets overclooked...I use to live in northern indiana...sad but I I've seen a few.....PEOPLE use to ask ...is the block cracked....dad had a SMALL auto salvage yard and then you walk around your place it reminds me of my folks
place.....now down here in Texas..HOT HOT HOT.but this last winter's we had 3-4 times we had a hard freeze caught a few off guard......pipes..burst..you know the rest ....it's still hurts to loose stuff...
"I see rust on the tip." That's what she said.
Looks like a total engine remove and damage check. Pull it from the engine mount, and see if turns over. Flush the cylinders with rust remover, and check the cam for damaged parts.
Yea that is gonna be some work for sure. Pulling that front engine half is a pain also.
some of the ingersoll rand mobile compressors had that type of engine too ,along with the massey ferguson 35 and 135
Oof! I think I heard taps playing softly in the background.
That's a shame, but I guess with the state of the rest of the machine that one is probably best for parts now. At least it has a good nose cone...
I enjoyed and learned something new, again. I sold on that rust eating stuff.
Ona side note I used Koil on a wd 45 and just rolled the whole tractor back and forth so I could get it al apart.
Just goes to show you more than one way to skin a cat.
Well Dang it, I thought it was gonna break free for you.
Ahh, Oliver Wendall Douglas' Hoyt-Clagwell!!! :) Yes, a Green Acres reference! Paul Henning was a genius!
I remember with the Fordson's that the positive from the battery goes to the chassis.
Jonathan.....please put a link below to the rust remover stuff you use in a future video , thank you !
time to invest in one of those 15 or 20 buck Ebay USB Endoscope cameras.. so you can look down the intake ports or perhaps even thru the injector holes.. to see into the combustion chambers.
Awesome it will be a great project and don't want to miss out
You've got great content Jonathan, keep going buddy.
nice job on that , I have a old international backhoe w same problem , I think ill give that a shot , ill prob end up having to pull head on it too
Kool. Nice to have a vid to go with my coffee. Off to work in 30min.
you allways put out the best content J W
Jonathan there is $1,500 worth of screw clamps on that tractor.
I wonder if the rain got in it and it froze up and that's how the block cracked and why she is seized up
I think it’s time to find another engine. Cracks can be repaired but never know what internal cracks it may have.
No big deal on resurfacing the head and putting new valve guides in! You can reuse the valves and reseated with compound. Let the pistons set in STP or mystery oil and knock them out resleeve it or hone it out.
awesome video thanks whats your opinion on marvel oil? can pour on cylinders and maybe in few days it would move again
Well, that stuff you poured in there (Metal Restore?) appears to be a low-molarity phosphoric acid, or some neutralized base of the same. I'd suggest that coca cola might be a lot less expensive next time, but I dunno.
Just pull it a part. Braze the block if you can and sleeve it . Try to find a good exhaust manifold. Total top to bottom rebuild.
looks like you like a challenge crikey thought mine looked rough when i bought it off a farmer 5 years ago,i got all engine done up did some work to make it tidy but lost interest engine wouldent turn over gonna try your trick on ring gear with prize bar ,i might of got clutch lined up wrong or engine stuck cos i dident turn it over periodically ,i must work on it again the super dexta was a nice motor .ive a standard dexta attached to a saw but i have to use go juice to fire it up check it out on my channel ,keep up the good work Ant from Wales UK .ive subbed
I am all for fixing up old machines, but I am not sure this one is worth all the trouble to get it back in good condition.
Agree, but I hate to give up.
its always worth it.
I am glad I found this channel, you mentioned it sometime
Jonathan is a great guy, he does a little of everything if it has to do with machines,, a down to earth guy, not afraid to get his hands dirty,,,
Jonathan, Vinegar eats rust, have you ever tried that in radiators ? I know baking soda and water cleans out cooling systems good.
Did I see a blue Monza? I've wanted a Monza Spider for years, I have a sweet 327ci and M22 I want to put in one.
1,000 gallon drive- in tank of Rust Eater.
That looks. Like the same shape of the motor that was in my wd45
You ever use molasses to eat rust? I read you take 9 parts water and one part molasses and it will clean rust in about a week.
Was any progress made on this? I don't see any follow-up videos.
that would be a great tractor to get and fix up... if it was mine i would tear it down and go through it!
Jonathan, let it rest in peace, send it down the road!!!😫😴😔😕😖😩
Would be cool restored thanks for the video.
You had a perkins engine you first started a year ago, and it had injector pump issues. Would that be the same engine block as the Ford tractor????
Never give up!!!
I would buy that Simms injector pump if the price was right. I need one for mine.
I will let you know if he decides to part it.
Thanks. I would appreciate it.
@@jonathanw4942 did it ever get to going?
well that sucks!! But maybe he can find a parts engine.
Look at oil line going into filter looks to be bent to the point of slowing the oil down
Jonathan if the number is t3, then its a ford engine. Not perkins. My 4600 has same
I'd need a written manual on the tractor, Jonathan; sorry, buddy.
R.I.P. Fordson
HaHa Rest in Pieces
Wow,what's the name of that stuff again, wow
Motorkote is a great product to try also
Guessing it did not have anti-freeze in it, does not look good for that engine, without a lot of time/money put in to it.
I had 2 Fordson majors the transmission is almost unbreakable but engines are not the best usually they mix water and oil and the hydraulics are not that powerful
Perkins AD3-152? Or is it a ford engine? Looks very much like a perkins
Alex Hickey f3 144 , it’s similar to a Perkins p3 , Ford originally developed the engine with help from Perkins, eventually Perkins got the rights to the design and the a3-152 was built
So, whats fate of the tractor?
Damn what a shame a little preventive maintenance on it and it would of been alright
She's rough alright
It may cost more to fix it then its worth.
wow, that one is in pretty bad shape Jonathan !
Freakin awesome!
HEY JONATHAN W!!!! LONG TIME NO TALK!! : ) How are you Sir? I need to ask you a question, but over private message, if thats ok?
Yea, email me at ytjonathanw@gmail.com
Alright, thank you Bud!! : )
That's a nicely fucked engine.
is that the same as the old ford tractors that used the same block for diesels as they did gas for quite some time?
That is a Perkins 152. Massey 35's and 135's had them too.
Thanks Johnathon!
I think ford 2000's were like that.
i didnt no perkins made a 3 cylinder
I'd smack that piston down with a 2x4 and a hammer just to see how badly rusted and pitted the cylinder bore is
Bummer.
Thanks.
Purple Power, plenty of it. get it cleaned up
Tolong fidiyo nya yang banyak dong
sometimes junk is junk
repower it with something crazy , maybe a chevy small block ... kinda joking , but if you had a chevette engine or something , a man might pull something off and the thing actually be useable , but the time is not worth the result unless your bored and have all that spare time the haters think you have , and we all know you really don't even have time to sleep in our line of work ...
Pretty fubared motor, make a nice old tractor for a engine swap.
👍👍 🇺🇸
V8 conversion.
I know.. V8 it! =) only for piss some haters off... hell yea!
haha that should work...one evil burnout tractor
Here's some Dexta parts near you there. Maybe he has a good motor for your friend www.ebay.com/itm/Fordson-Dexta-2000-Tractor-Four-Tractors-One-Money/323303216272?hash=item4b465f9490%3Ag%3Aq0cAAOSwBCtbJFIE&_sop=16&_sacat=0&_nkw=fordson+dexta&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0
Not worth putting time into that engine Jonathan, good used engine is the way to go.
Agree 100%. If it was old and rare, well that's another matter.
Well said Malc.
