ive been a drummer for over fifty years and i dont think ive heard anyone do the things Thomas Lang can do....

FACTS
I’m always in awe Watching you play and demonstrate these different techniques.
I use to have drum lessons in Sydney Australia with a legendary jazz drummer from New York, his name was Jack Savage from Glebe NSW
I went through all the books with him, weekly for 5 years until he passed RIP JACK.
One particular book he made me get was The Drummers CookBook.
He made me play all the groves in that book 8 ways. 1/4 on the ride. 1/8 on the ride. 16ths on the hats. And all variations on the foot hi hat. All against the grooves in Cookbook
Completely fucked me up. But wow. Independence overload.
After i accomplished all that. It was Chester new breed and Chapin, Bower system etc..
The reason i mention all this, is because i can hear all those variations from cookbook 8 ways.
Very very hard for a beginner to comprehend, but with years of dedicated practice, u can achieve anything u want.

Those drums sound massive, man.
I bought his vic firths series sticks once to try them out, they are comparable to thor's hammer.
Boils down to the way in which the drums are tuned, head choice, stick size and of course recording and mixing equipment to help clean up room acoustics. With the technology you can almost make your drums sound however way you want but the key is good tuning all day long. You can have a basic middle of the road kit and make it sound amazing if you just trust your ears. Tuning wins the prize.
He comes from another planet in some undiscovered galaxy. Guys like him are just naturally talented and can do what he does in his sleep.
Glad to see you have lessons. You are one of my favs to watch as of lately.

Killer! Hi-hat rhythm is something I still struggle with and really don't include in my playing very often. This will be a fun (and challenging) one to start practicing again
monstrous playing, as usual.
As soon as I grow another leg and arm I will be in a position to do about half of what Mr. Lang does.

I guess his benefit is, that he is actually a lefty. Just back when he started out playing, his teacher made him play the "right" way round. Just makes his right side that much more impressive XD
